    On your 20 ton York RTUs, the blower motors need to be greased with blue grease, just a couple pumps on each grease connection annually. For the blower pulley you adjusted to tightened, don't do that unless the amp draw is fine. It widens the width of the blower pulley making it closer to the blower wheels pulley width, causing it to do more work (move more air) increasing amps. Next time, adjust from the plate the motor is mounted to. Other than that, they should maintain their units more to avoid the limit issues from dirty filters and small issues like this. I know the struggle, some customers just want band-aid fixes and get annoyed when the equipment breaks down. You're doing great!

    sorry have to point this out, you don't close or open the pulley to tighten the belt, you are changing the speed of the blower and (possibly) changing the air balance of the building, you should be moving the motor to tighten up the belt

      Exactly. Could cause the motor to over amp as well.

    • @Byron88
      @Byron88 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I would generally agree but since the keyway had fallen out there is a good chance its probably where it was supposed to be now, although an amp draw should have been done after, also the driven pulleys split taper bushing was also loose and never got tightened at least not shown in the video.

      @@Byron88 The keyway fell out. Maybe the sheave is in its original position. Maybe it’s not. Should check amp draw.

    did you check the current draw on that blower motor after you tightened the pulley? You can't be sure that you had it back like it was originally. You may get a callback if the motor burns out from being loaded too heavy.

    Good old York! We've had multiple York RTGP Units come from the factory with the pulleys not tight, and eventually the whole pulley comes off. Quality control just isn't what it used to be! Keep up the great work brother!

      Experienced the same thing on a rooftop sweep with all new York units pulleys came loose

    • @Jason-wc3fh
      @Jason-wc3fh 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes. We've had thousands of dollars in damage to brand new installs of Yorks where the shafts along with pulleys needing to be replaced from coming loose. They must have a toddler that tightens down all the set screws.

    • @cameronboyett6386
      @cameronboyett6386 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had that happen at a location with a bunch. I retightened them and they came loose again. Ended up damaging key way in pulley. When I called them to order a new one, they had switched to a tapered bushing design. I think the torque from the huge motors were loosening the set screws. Bad design on their part

    If you see a high limit trip, take a temp rise. That would be the quickest and easiest way to determine an airflow issue

  • @EverythingHVACR
    @EverythingHVACR 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Adjusting the drive pulley in will increase the motor speed and amp draw so you could cause some issues by adjusting your belt tension that way. Loose set screws from all manufacturers are becoming more common these days.

    It’s pretty obvious the first unit you looked at was low gas pressure. The flame should never be going back the far

  • @jamesszalla4274
    @jamesszalla4274 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If you suspected a gas problem, why didn’t you check the pressure? Also, you don’t adjust the belt tension with the pulley. The pulley adjusts speed. Tension is adjusted with the slide bracket on the motor.

    Had a hot air furnace that would intermittently die. Took 2 years before the gas valve finally failed in a way that wasn't intermittent. I suspect the gas valve had a defect that would only prevent it from working in certain temperatures and only intermittently. Unfortunately the temperature range was when it was really cold out ! Replaced the honeywell gas valve and hasn't had any problems in almost a decade. You almost need some kind of data logger that you could hookup against the 24v contacts and record the history so you could see what is happening. Now that the cost of electronics is pretty minimal I am surprised there isn't built in data logging for all sensors - maybe the newer stuff has it. The LCD display telling you the issues with the roof units was pretty interesting - beats having to count flashes !

Very helpful information about how to maintain them for when I build my next house with either hydronic or steam heat system for under floor. I'm in Asheville, North Carolina. For a whole minute I was saying "PLEASE don't touch the pulley" to myself... The 4 screws on the motor mount might be loose as all hell and now a new problem is introduced and the old one will also come back
    Tightening the pulley makes it bigger in belt diameter, the motor will spin at a higher torque and amps, the blower will spin at higher speed and the air balance of the building will be out.

    While it is quick and easily accessible, the exhaust is NOT the best place to warm yourself up.
    Why?
    Because it is full of moisture/condensation and will end up making it worse.
    Whenever possible, pull the panel that you would inspect the heat exchanger from. This is straight heated air and no moisture/condensation.

    First video of yours I've seen. Not sure how long you've been in the field but it doesn't seem like you should be out running service calls on gas fire equipment on your own. If I was the first customer and found out you just walked around and reset all the units and said they're fine now I would not be paying that bill. Can't even adjust a belt properly. I'm not saying you're an idiot but you need much more training before being sent on your own for your and the customers safety.
