I've been on thise dunes.. Lots of times we'll be coming up Test Hill and folks at the top of the dune will not get out of the way till the last second you decide to jump the dune! it's crazy..! The problem isn't the drivers.. it's the lack of ropped off spectator area.
When a transportation department builds a highway, there are many requirements for the slope, flatness, materials, drainage, curves and other stuff. When winds build a sand dune, the sand can go many different ways.

well drag racing, in most circumstances race in a straight line. hard to be in harms way unless its something that isnt calculated, like a wheels popping off and sending a vehicle from the track.

Silverlake has more rules/regulations than any other dunes in the country and they are baby dunes compared to the dunes out west.

Silver Lake is not "relatively safe". They have about one emergency medical evacuation every weekend day.
So would any gathering of that many people, it’s packed every weekend. The same goes for the most popular state parks without OHV areas.
