  • Hello and welcome! This video will hopefully be the first in a series of simple woodturning projects. The aim is to build a playlist of quick and easy ideas, no more than 10-15 minutes to complete, that every turner can try no matter their skill level. Ever since I started woodturning I have sought out videos like this for inspiration, now I feel like would like to contribute, so here it is. No music, just the sounds of wood and high speed steel, my favourite!
    10 Minute turning project. #01 - Acorn.
    For this I used a piece of beech wood. The blank was already round so that helped to quicken the process.
    I used a 3/8ths bowl gouge and a 1/4" Parting/Beading tool.
    I would suggest using a longer piece of wood to avoid having to work so close to the chuck like I did here.
    Once shaped I sanded 120 - 180 - 240 and cut off with a pull saw. Off camera I then quickly hit the stem on the belt sander to create the angle.
    Any questions or suggestions for things you would like to see me make in this series then let me know in the comments.
    Thanks for watching! If you're new here and you like this, please consider subscribing to my channel. If you have been here before, then thank you for your continued support, it means a lot!

    That thing barely needed any sanding. Beautiful acorn, Pog!

      Thanks a lot Brent, I probably could start sanding a little higher than 120 but old habits die hard 😂

      Hi Allen, thanks for watching! Don't worry buddy, I still have those days when nothing seems to go right, all part of the process. You learn from the successes and the failures. Hope you're keeping safe and well 👍

    Yep! That is definitely an acorn! We still think you make it look too easy and we are envious of your skills! How about turning a pen next?

      You guys are awesome and far too nice to me! Thank you 😊 I did try turning a pen once but with mixed results, something for a future video maybe. I have an idea for the next quick project but no spoilers haha

    Good looking acorn, nice tool control. I was disappointed that you sawed it off instead of using your parting tool. Keep on turning. Good stuff. 👍

      @tfturning  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mark! Watching it back now I couldn't tell you why I went saw over parting tool. I'm guessing it's the width of the sawblade vs the parter, that's my best guess anyway. Thanks for stopping by 👍

    How much did your lathe cost?
    My grandpa made his own using a modified mains powered hand drill and I tried to recreate it myself but it would never stay on true centre.
    Been wanting to get into wood turning for many years now and you've inspired me to give it a shot (for real this time)
    @jibadee

    • @tfturning
      @tfturning  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should totally do it! I only started in January 2018 and it quickly become my favourite thing to do.
      This particular lathe was around £400 from new but my first was much smaller and a lot cheaper from eBay. That was basically a hand drill motor attached to a small ally plate, was ok, fine for the 3 days I used it before getting a more traditional looking lathe for £140, again from eBay.
      Man, if you're doing it then feel free to fire over any questions you have, I'd be happy to help where I can from what I've learnt so far 👍
      Also thanks for watching!! I hope you found it useful.
