SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 review | Almost flawless

  • The SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 is a new wireless gaming headset. It has loads of great features and comes in three flavours: the standard Nova 7 for use with PC, the Nova 7P to pair with the PlayStation and the Nova 7X is the Xbox wireless option. There aren’t many Xbox wireless gaming headsets available and I think that in the sub $400 AUD price range, the Nova 7X is easily the best wireless headset money can buy.
    This review will explain the differences between the various models of the Nova 7, their pros ad cons and how they compare to similar headsets like the Arctis 7P+, the Nova 3 and the EPOS H3PRO Hybrid.
    The Arctis Nova 7 Wireless headset for this review was provided by SteelSeries. All opinions are my own.

    Sidetone works perfectly on PS5 with the Nova 7X, you only lose the sidetone dial found on the nova 7P model but you can adjust the sidetone volume in the hub and it saves to the headset ready to take over to console. Just thought I’d mention that for anyone wondering.

      I bought a 7P for PC use because reviews said they were identical to the non-P version. Was panicking with the amount of hiss I was getting from sidetone and I couldn't find where to disable it, you saved me!

      @@KinderBenno on the 7X you can only adjust in the app on PC/mac unfortunately, same with firmware updates too. Wish SteelSeries developed a mobile app to do all this as not everyone who buys these for console has access to a PC/Mac so restricts some features. Great headset though! Love mine

    I just bought this from Amazon UK as "used" for 100 pounds compared to 170 full price and they came looking brand new, I imagine returned after a short test. First impressions are that they are incredible. Work with my desktop PC and the wireless dongle flawlessly, to my laptop with bluetooth while taking work calls and my phone when travelling. Sound could have been louder but it's sufficient and doesn't fall apart at 90-100%. For the price it's 10/10 for me

      @@Kenzo.126 No complaints at all so far, I use them for sim racing to keep in contact with other drivers in discord, also other games such as FPS where directional hearing for footsteps is essential, these are insanely good at that, they sound and work great! I wear glasses and after an hour to 90 mins I start to feel a bit of pressure but for the most part, very light and comfy. The chat/game balance wheel comes in real handy when things get a bit loud in game, it's handy to maintain that balance between Comms and the game audio without having to alt+tab to the control panel. No complaints about the battery life either. I'm going to invest in some wicked cushions for extra comfort but other than that, I recommend them and if needed, I'd buy them again.

      That's a hard call. From a features perspective they are almost identical although the H3PRO has ANC. I think most people will prefer how the Nova 7 sounds. It's a bit warmer whereas the h3PRO is quite neutral. They're both comfy but the H3PRO probably has a slight edge.

    Hi - I play exclusively single player story games on PS5. I am looking for great sound quality with clear voices and the best 3D audio immersion on PS5 and will buy PSVR2. Bluetooth for music would be great, but could live without. I bought the Blacksharks v2X, but voices sound a bit weird(muffled?) and quieter than the music, which makes them hard to hear. I am now looking at Nova 7 (£105), EPOS H6Pro closed (£76), Nova 1 (£34), EPOS GSP 300 (£32) or getting the Sony 1000XM5 (£289). Do you have a view and why? Anything else you would recommend?

    • @goukigod
      @goukigod  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I think the 1000XM5 is overkill. It has a lot of bells and whistles but if your top priority is audio quality, you can spend much less and get much better. The Nova 7 is a great all purpose headset. that should fit your needs. I've tried the open back version of the EPOS H6pro and it's a very good sounding headset but also very bare bones in terms of features (no wireless). The Nova 1 wouldn't be a bad choice either if you don't want to spend much. Again it's bare bones.

      I had this dilemma the past few days with sales on the Arctis 9 making it $109 and the Nova 7 being $130. Went to order the Arctis 9 as I’m upgrading from the Arctis 3 so I knew I’d like the comfort and everything, but as I went to order it had just sold out. Purchased the Nova 7s and am starting to realize they seem to be the better choice. What did you end up getting ?

    I hated these in so many ways.. the fit was so loose and nothing would fix that, the ear cups ruffled if you moved your head and most importantly the sound was terrible. It was like they couldn't properly mix all the audio together well and only the highs stood out. I was playing a game with my old headset before I got these and loaded in with the new set,, my base was next to a river and the water rushing literally hurt my ears and drowned out all other sounds, like they pick up a certain game sound and hyper focus on that instead of mixing all the sounds in properly. Like my other headset the water felt like it was in the background with the leaves and wind and I could hear people coming and things infront of me were the focus/foreground. But the steel series nova 7x was the opposite, back round noises were blaring and drowning out things in front of me that should have been highlighted.. made them feel like its a footstep headset, but even then it was terrible since I could hear zombies so clear but couldn't tell of they were 5 feet away or a mile away. So many times I turned around thinking a zombie was right behind me but then to see it 2 houses away, then they sounded the same if they were 5 feet behind me and caused me to not know are they a threat or just behind me somewhere.. I tried sonar and all sorts of setting and gain booting, but nothing made them feel right for me. They were also the first headset to give me ear fatigue, I've never felt that before and love load games and music. I didn't even have these loud and under 50 percent volume and still gave me a ringing or feeling like when your in a airplane and your ears pop.

      What was your old headset?

    • @skarpur13
      @skarpur13 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@goukigod I have the exact same experience as this guy. I bought these to replace my old Arctis 7 (not Nova, chatmix was nicely analog, not bullcrap Sonar).
      The silly thing is that I discovered that if I actually forgo entirely the Sonar software, and just put my output device as the default Nova without Sonar meddling with the sound, they actually sound good in-game. But if I do that, I lose the chatmix functionality since now it's forced within Sonar.
      So I would need to either (a) find a way to make Sonar sound as good as the default hardware headset device, or (b) give up on Sonar, make all output go through the default Device, lower manually the sound of games and raise that of Discord. But then what's the point of buying Arctis if I can't get the chatmix? Or (c): say **** to that "improved edition" and buy another original Arctis 7 (not Nova) with hardware chatmix. It's a joke these are still as expensive, given how old they should sell much cheaper nowadays.

      So you can't just use the chat mix and use Dolby Atmos then ?

    Nova 7 or JBL 610 for gaming??

    • @goukigod

      Nova 7 is > than the 610 but I think the 810 is closer to the Nova 7 in terms of features. Then it just comes down to if you want a slighter better sound (Nova 7) or features like ANC (810).

      @@darkscoutergamer6168 thank you! This helped a lot. But I definitely need to find a better EQ to suit my style. I was just surprised at all the reviewers talking about how strong the bass was right out of the box. I didn’t hear that at all. The highs I could feel right away. Like every time I hit someone with my weapon in Elden ring, it felt like I was getting stabbed in the ear with that weapon. I fired up Miles Morales after you told me about the volume limiter and I definitely felt more bass in the music and explosions. So thanks again!
