  • American Century arrived in Superior this afternoon to end the shipping season. Multiple tugs assisted the Century in breaking 2 foot thick ice on it's way to its slip.

These ships are incredible, and the skill the Captains have, the tugs and the Lakers, is absolutely amazing. They all deserve a long winter's rest. Gods Speed, Gentlemen

Exactly what I would have said. They are so majestic even with being a little beat up by end of the season.

    Thank you!
Also great editing on the video. I really like the audio mixed in from the tugs. Great stuff!

I'm new to this channel, and I am so glad I came across
It. I have always been intrigued by the Fitzgerald's tragedy, and the Anderson's return. All jobs have it's dangers, but the men of the water, you are Heroes. No matter how insignificant your job is, it is significant to the shipment of goods. Thank all of you for doing everything tasked of you. God Blessed you with a return home safe season. Bless you and your families, and the families of the one's lost. Rest now with the ones you love. See you in the spring.

Lol, yeah somewhat hard to tell on these videos but it’s sort of in the middle of nowhere (why the video quality is low), and you can’t hear the horns of one entrance from the other, too far apart!

Got a few photos of the Century at the Soo, she had a heck of a time, took almost 12 hours to lock thru. Have a good rest ship and crew

@@cnrailfan3473 yes, she made several attempts, then backed out, to allow the Arthur M Anderson to lock down, and hopefully flush some ice out of the lock.

Monday evening: AMA and IH are still out there with loads (AMA for Conneaut and IH for Gary). IH sat west of the Mighty Mac for nearly a day before getting back under way this afternoon. One of those two will be the last to lay up.

The AC has a little bit of experience with ice, after the rough night she had at the Soo on the 15th/16th.
Took four tries to get into the lock due to the ice conditions, and then they had her anchor (with everyone else) until the morning of the 16th due to ice. So she spent the night anchored just above the locks.
I'm sure the sight of Superior/Duluth was a relief.

Never noticed until now, Burns Harbor clearly has a larger superstructure than the Century (yes I know it’s further out of the water but still) that’s interesting, always thought they were identical

Regarding the drone....are there any rules about how close the drones can get to commercial ships and navigational lighthouses and lights? This is the first time I've seen a drone on these films.

Respectfully - since we are nearing the end of January, what constitutes the winter layover and why didn't it start in November or December? I'm enjoying this channel way too much.
