I stayed the distance just to see the Alpena. Watching her come in through the snow and the mist...perfect. She is the prettiest ship on the Lakes and to her horn is a true treat. I love this little steamship that "can". I love watching the monster ships come in but the Alpena is my absolute favorite.
This has truly been the best day of many months for ship traffic .many ships, a couple of beauties, interesting weather conditions throughout the day. Wind, snow, sea smoke and alot of ship watchers. Great to see your video, Paul. Merry Christmas.😊
Great video, DHC! A nice parade of lakers, and, of course, saving the best for last! Merry Christmas and Happy New year to DHC, and my fellow boat nerds from Green Bay! 31:18
Heading down here one early July day after a Huskies game instead of waiting for the next day when I had nothing to do I was rewarded with getting to see the Paul R. Tregurtha come in. I'd watched a doc on it and had no idea any ship was coming in much less that one. I was blown away. They did not do the announcements that they did in this video and that I've seen in others. Perhaps that's just a weekend thing. I don't remember what day of the week I was there. It was July 7th or something if I remember correctly. It was a cool place to visit. I wouldn't be out there, well 26F if it's not too windy maybe I would) but not the other days even though the smoke on the water videos were really cool
What delightful to watch them all come in, especially the Alpena.

Thank you, DHC. I am thrilled that my top two, Wilfred Sykes and Alpena, are both here on the same day.

Lots of hardy spectators braving the cold weather to watch this amazing parade of ships. That's the Minnesota spirit.
Was there in person all day! Thanks for compiling this!
You're so lucky! Happy for you. 😊

Nice calm ship warching weather
Happy Christmas all lakers crews
Wow!
Hi I think it would be great to hear about the workers who built and operate these ships! How many, etc.
It's getting late in the season. I pray they get their ships loaded up and safely delivered. 👍
Burns Harbor didn't get a bridge salute
That’s because she didn’t complete a salute to start with, due to her horns being iced up…👍
I winder how far out to sea the bridge horns can be heard
Wow, blowing snow and they have not lit up the lighthouses.
I'm suprised the ships are still going and not in winter lay up yet
Love the 1000footers
I liked and subscribe.
All the ships got sugar icing on them
Is it odd that there is no ice on the lake yet?
No, it's early yet.
The salute getsto me every time
I live in Montana but those big lakers get to me that b a job to bad im to old an to sick2nd time round uugh
