It was an incredible experience recording the ship, especially on the coldest day I’ve ever filmed since starting this journey. What made it even more memorable was witnessing the first day of ice forming on Superior Bay and watching the ship break through it as it traveled from the bridge to the dock. There’s something captivating about seeing a ship breaking ice, it’s powerful, dramatic, and showcases the raw beauty of winter on the Great Lakes. Do you enjoy seeing all the cold weather with the snow, or do you enjoy the ship breaking ice, or both?

Hey Mike! Another bitter cold day you are recording. Go get something warm when you are done my friend. Yes, you definately have to watch where you are stepping by the canal in the winter. Never know where the ice is. You can sure tell that she has ice on her. It was very cool to see her breaking that ice. I was actually enjoying a warm cup of cocoa after filming. You are right though, it would be pretty cool to hear the ice breaking in person. Maybe someday you’re well.
Karen, we’d love to have you and Duluth to check things out. Trust me the beach is very fantastic in the summertime. It’s one of the best beaches around. Extremely soft sand and beautiful scenery out there. However, the beach isn’t so great when it’s 35 below zero Fahrenheit.

OMG Mike... Bless your heart for going out in that freezing weather to get us this footage of the CSL Laurentian entering the Harbor and breaking through that ice. I saw a few other brave souls also out there, I'm shocked the horn worked on the ship for the captain to give the salute. The Laurentian sliced through that ice pretty easy. Excellent video my friend. Won't be long before even the entry way of the canal will be iced over and the Tugs will have to be keeping it open. Go warm up Mike!. I think this excellent video on a super freezing day deserves a Tall Hot Chocolate for You!!! ⚓🚢⚓

Hey Mike, and ALL THE GLOBAL BOAT FRIEND NATION, from a balmy 31 degree with freezing rain Bismarck. Icy cold in the old Dtown with a wicked wind turning up the wind chill to downright nasty levels. Missed the live but at quarter break with the Vikes so have some time. Those clear as a bell days tend to be very cold, and with that wind it becomes downright unbearable. We got to see the first icebreaker as it were go through the Canal, so we got that going for us. Hard working Laker as evidenced by the dock burn on the sides, but still a beautiful Laker doing its job. Hard to imagine the smoke coming off the water at these temps, but it is right there for everyone to see with their own eyes. Great Video Mike, time for a hot drink!!! Later man…..

Boat friends take care of Mike it is Christmas. I donated to your PayPal. You are more than deserving. I appreciate your work and passion for these ships. I really enjoy your videos. Merry Christmas!
Mike, thanks for being out there in that brutal cold. I love hearing the almost electrical like pings from the ice. I used to live on the Rideau River south of Ottawa, ON., and we'd often walk the dogs on the river in winter, and hear those sounds.
It’s interesting that you say that, those electrical light pings from the ice are really odd when you hear it, but they get really mesmerizing the more you listen to it
I thought 23F. Was cold! It’s been like this on the East Coast since Friday morning, 12/20 will be until Christmas Eve morning. I’d have had to “layer up” my late Mom. I hope you got yourself a nice hot cocoa, Mike, to try to get warm. Thanks for braving the elements to report on the ships to us. Merry Christmas to you and yours. 🎄🔔⭐️⛄️
Another wonderful comment from you, Robin. I wish you a merry Christmas. Can you believe how fast Christmas comes every year? It must be the fact that I’m getting older. Time is all perspective right, all the best to you on a Sunday night.
This video I did not use the noise canceling microphone. It was the raw Mike, which made it difficult to hear me at some point, but it did intensify some of the other things like the ice.
I’m glad you tagged me, I didn’t see this video come in because I wasn’t subbed. I thought I was. Am now for sure. It looked like that ship was floating in the sky!
Roderick how are you this evening? Luckily it will be warming up in Duluth. I’m out of state at the moment. I look forward to getting back there with the ships.

@@vibewithmike The Vikings are a very good team. I am kind of crazy about KC. too. Great head couch, and Mahomes is amazing. But it's all elite level. So we'll see what happens. I do not enjoy seeing players get hurt although I know they leave with bruises. I was once asked to play against a women's varsity team. Man, did I live black and blue for days. They do not mess around. So, go Vikings.

Sir, I’m from Charleston West Virginia. And love your videos. Thanks for the insight into something that I never knew I was interested in !!!
Hey friend, hope everything is great there in West Virginia, all I do is try to get out there and have some fun with these ships. I just hit record and let the ships do all the work.
Boat friends take care of Mike it is Christmas. I donated to your PayPal. You are more than deserving. I appreciate your work and passion for these ships. I really enjoy your videos. Merry Christmas!
Thank you very much for saying that! 🙏⛴️👍
Beautiful job Mike!
Love your clips.💯
Thanks! It was a pretty incredible sight.
Thanks for sharing & Your freezer Weather time Merry Christmas & My God Richly Bless You & Family.
Old man winter showed up for this one Ann
Thank you Mike for the video was not only amazing its awesome watching the ship break up the ice. Keep up the good work Mike.
You are very welcome, I appreciate you taking time out of your day to check out the video!
Mike, thanks for being out there in that brutal cold. I love hearing the almost electrical like pings from the ice. I used to live on the Rideau River south of Ottawa, ON., and we'd often walk the dogs on the river in winter, and hear those sounds.
It’s interesting that you say that, those electrical light pings from the ice are really odd when you hear it, but they get really mesmerizing the more you listen to it
@@vibewithmike it's almost like nature playing music.
A good tune at that
Amazing video! Never saw a ship breaking through the ice. Bravo to tou for braving the weather. Makes me cold just thinking about it!
Great video very interesting, look forward to the next one
Glad you enjoyed it
One of your best, Mike! Thank you!
You’re welcome, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video - Thanks, Mike😃
Helen, I really appreciate you taking time out of your evening to watch the video and to leave a nice comment like this
I thought 23F.
Cool Mike! Thank you!!
Really appreciate you taking time out of your evening to watch another video
I like that your format captures sounds like the ice breaking. Really gives us all a much better feel for what it's like to be there!
It was pretty wild to see how the ice around the ship looks like clouds.
@ The sound the ice made makes me think of steel cables being pulled really tight.
That was a good one.
That’s exactly what it sounded like
Yes, it's pretty cold alright. -1C here in Newfoundland. Great video. Thanks for braving the elements Mike
Roderick how are you this evening? Luckily it will be warming up in Duluth. I’m out of state at the moment. I look forward to getting back there with the ships.
@@vibewithmike I am doing well and so is the family. I have lots of firewood and there is a lot of American football on and that makes me very happy. And I certainly look forward to your videos. Holiday wishes.
I’ve been watching a lot of football today. My team is the Minnesota Vikings .
It’ll be tough to even compete against Kansas City. We did win today though.
Loved your video! Love Duluth!
Thank you so much for such a nice and friendly comment on a Sunday night
Wow, that's insanely cold! Thanks for another great video, Mike, and here's wishing you a merry Christmas! Stay as warm as you can! All the best from Maribel in Auckland, New Zealand.
Maribel, Merry Christmas to you too! It's nice to hear from across the globe. All the best to your New Zealand my friend. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day.
Wow Mike, great video! You’re a brave guy! Brrrr! Thanks for the footage!
Hey friend, always great seeing you in the comment section. I hope your Sunday is going great. Luckily I had a lot of hot cocoa after this video.

Brr..frigid weather has returned to Duluth..The water looks cold..Thanks Mike.
It’s sooooooo Beautiful up there.
It was a really nice blue sky in the background as well
Interesting fact:
-40°Fahrenheit = -40° celsius.
Thanks for braving the frigid temps, Mike.
It's crazy how those two temperatures line up! it is really wild and cold

I think you are correct! Paul Martin was part of an ownership group and I think it was his family. I’m going to do some research.
Just keep loving these vids, thanks boat friend leader. Lol
Pete, this is that time of year that the ship watch gets really fun. I can’t wait to show you some winter layup ships.

Thanks @Vibe with Mike for braving the weather to get this video for us!
Your friend
Pari Ann
It was a bit chilly, Pari Ann, but it was worth it! 🧊 it was so fun getting out there, even though it was cold to see the shit breaking ice was cool
I was on board watching the ice break from above and it was thick ,that was so cooling will never forget that...2006 I have beautiful pictures of that ..the ice was an aqua color and it sounded like a thunderous jolting forward and backwards..
That is fantastic! How long have you been on the ship? Can you actually feel that ice throughout the ship as you break through it?
@vibewithmike I'm sorry if I gave you impression of being there at that time ...2006 2.5 inches of ice ..my husband has retired from there now but 2006 I spent a whole week out there ...yes you surly can feel it...
I got you, I understand now
Thanks! Merry Xmas Mike!
Thank you so much for your kind words and incredible support. Your $10 donation was such a thoughtful and generous surprise, and I want you to know how much it truly means to me. It is never expected, but it is deeply appreciated, and it reminds me just how special this community is because of amazing people like you.
I will be out there recording the ships day and night, through every kind of weather, because I love it and because of the wonderful people who make this all so meaningful. Whether it is watching a ship head into winter layup or catching one arriving under the lights, it is all about sharing these moments with good people like you. Your kindness and generosity inspire me to keep doing what I do, and I am so thankful for you being a part of this journey.
I hope you and your family have a truly wonderful Christmas filled with love, joy, and great memories. Merry Christmas to you, and I look forward to sharing even more ship adventures with you in the new year. Thank you again for everything, and know that your kindness is never taken for granted.

Hey, you don’t know how much I appreciate you and all of our friends that share the same passion. It’s really awesome. I did get warm right after this video.
Great video Mike!!! I watched the vessel come in on the live cam and was wondering if you were down there capturing a different perspective for us. Thanks for another great video!!!
Bill, I just want you to know that it was a total pleasure meeting you and your family this year. I can’t wait to meet all of you again. Are you going to be up there during Wynter layup or before? I will be back in Minnesota possibly this weekend. I really hope you have a fantastic Christmas if we don’t talk. Say hello to the family. All the best to the crew.
@vibewithmike it was a pleasure meeting you too! Definitely a highlight for us all! We will be there Wednesday thru Friday this week. Beth was talking to me about maybe heading to Sturgeon Bay during winter layup to see the ships there. We will be in Duluth a bunch in 2025, still looking for some land or dwelling up there. Look forward to running into you again. Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas! 🎄🚢🇺🇸🎄🚢🇺🇸
