Good riding Nerb, well done. Makes me realise how fit Toby Price and other elite riders must be. Sure, they’re galaxies beyond me in ability, but they must also be super fit.
I would be interested to see Toby Price ride a fully loaded bike around little desert! Seriously, it would be very interesting to see how he tackles it. Probably twice as fast with half the effort! I guess Posketts channel is a good example.
Hey Brendan, we spoke for a bit at the caravan park when you were out to get some oil for your mate. Great to see how you conquered these tracks with a loaded T7! See you around!
I see that Mark has been thoroughly piled on here, and I'm sure he's a great guy, but c'mon... Bad luck just runs along with him! Two separate occasions of his bikes spewing their engine oil all over the track. I do feel for him. Looking forward to the rest of the journey, where he'll hopefully make it out without any other bad luck. Cheers, guys!
Man, that sand looked mental! We hit some sand on the weekend and it was bad enough, but nothing like that. Hard on rider and bike, that shit. Great riding 👌
Nice to see loaded and not going into tires and suspension settings. I had a bike with a dry clutch and it would send an olphactory signal when loaded. Wet clutches tell you at the lever, but maybe a bit late??
Most people would do an oil change before heading out on a trip. But then again, we pull enough oil out of the ground, someone’s got to put some back in there!
Either your getting better at the sand riding or this T7 is easier to ride compared to the 1190 ( with the amount of offs) and in "hard sand" too. I can't believe the luck mark has but then again he is persisting with that bike....bring back the hornet. Cheers 4 sharing sir.
You could be fine, it is only most sections... others are dirt. But ya, there are long tracks of it and short ones, but if you can do some of it, it is all skills you can use in other areas.
Great vid and riding in particular to the 1190 rider, showing good riding form at 31:46 . What video settings do you use? as in aspect ratio, fps, view angle, etc
I use a sony fdrx3000. 1080p, 60fps, 60mbit. I think its 140° fov. I would film in 4k, but 30fps is too slow for fast moving footage imo. I think sony has discontinued their action cam lineup which is very disapointing. They are miles better than gopoo. It is absolutely reliable.
Please explain your thoughts on running lower pressure in the front compared to the rear. I’ve been a desert racer for years and we always run 2ish psi higher in the front. I’m curious what I’m not understanding about this.
The reality is, no one has told me otherwise! My theory was that I want to go as low as possible without spinning the beads on the rims. Fronts I am comfortable down to 10 or so. Rear has all the power going to it, so I wasnt game to go lower. Generally dont go much under 20. Honestly, I would love to hear from someone with experience as to what I should try.
@@beejaytee Yeah, rim locks make changing tubes much more difficult. I'd rather just run a little higher pressure. Ultimately I want to go back to tubeless.
My first sand ride was also on an unloaded WR250R and I struggled too. Second sand ride was on a Husky FE501, which was so much easier. The extra power really helps. Once in 3rd gear, the front wheel sits up on top of the sand and you can steer with the rear. I'll keep sand training on the 501, before I try sand on a loaded ADV bike. Nerb is very skillful and makes it look easy.
The simpson is all wheel ruts on the dunes mate, have you been out there? Simpson is easier as red sand packs as it’s a flatter grain, white or beach style sand is round
Yeah, I crossed the simpson in 2019 on the 1190 across the french line. I thought it wasnt as hard, but I didnt want to commit to that statement! Looking forward to going back on the T7
@@Nerb1 yeah mate its Greg. Steering damper yes and no, doesnt help in sand unless your skimming the top see th-cam.com/video/0C2zGdSpsnQ/w-d-xo.html at the 17.28min mark for a better explanation
OMG, I was exhausted watching you guys... Im sure the next video will reveal WHY you wanted to ride this location. Looks like my idea of hell... but perhaps it's taking you to some amazing reward.
You can have a steering damper in the sand... but if you use the right settings as it can make it worse than nothing. Think Mark has Nhill chance. Oh and don't crash going to get help for others. Little Desert can be quite hard... lots of sections that are fine sand and comes and goes unexpectedly.
Goodday do you not take sum oil???on a trip like this ???question is the T7 a better bike for the things that you are doing yes the suspension is a little pore ride safe
Seemed like Silas was having a pretty easy time on the big KTM, I guess the extra power helps a bit in the sketchy parts? Thinking you can probably just roll on and dig through. How'd you find the T7 compared to the 1190 in sand nerb?
Impressive riding guys. I was there same weekend with the FB group, challenging sand but fun. Question, why didn’t you guys unload your bikes for the oil run?
I did the little desert 🌵 about 2 years ago on my SWM 650 ( unloaded) andtnat was hard enough. Even when you get used to it ( as you say over 60-70kph ) well done 👍 . Maybe you mate should buy a reliable bike they run the Chinese Rotex engine. I’m not bagging him out just saying.
Sorry Mark, but it’s time to convert the Husky and AT into a Bash plate equipped T7, and never look back! Just kidding, but you’ve had the worst luck my friend!
I think he'd really benefit from a modern frame architecture, lighter/balanced modern bike, and a slim lined kit. With all that working against him, it's understandable he's having a rough time through such difficult terrain.
Nice video and riding but Mark's mistake is a bit shit honestly. If you fiddle with the lubrication system you better make sure you're not pissing oil into the environment because your plug just falls out.
Tell you what, you’re both a likeable bunch of blokes. Murphy’s law about the Terra waiting till it was yonks away from civilisation before dropping its pants. Then it’s “just nip back and grab some stuff to fix it will ya”. Been there.... Its the reminding about the help they give for years after that gets you.....
Thanks for you kind words about my bike. 🤣 I gave the bike a complete going over including new rear shock, chain sprockets and wheel bearings. Obviously fixed the subframe as well. The oil problem was due to my lack of attention to detail and a loose hose clamp. Once fitted back in place properly it performed well and without fault. It isn't the best bike for the job, however it is smaller than the AT which I thought I'd struggle on more in the sand.
Impressive ride through the sand - the T7 probably the biggest bike I would want to take in those conditions. Definitely some mad skills.
Gotta hand it to you guys riding in such deep sand that is not easy stuff to ride. I was out of breath just watching .
Great video, liked how you put the track names on the screen.
Crazy hard work.Good skill for sure, thks.

Beautiful camps on the pimpinio side, some cool single tracks that lead into the sand.

Hello from Adelaide, Australia. Nice scenery, beautiful places there in Vic. Practicing for another tilt at the Simpson?
Might be ;)
My vote for uploading all of it like you did for the Simmo trip! You planning another Simmo trip?
The terror of the Terra.
Thanks mate... 👍🏻
Yikes. Every time my CB500X even sees sand, it tries to kill me. The Tenere 700 just keeps going - amazing!
I've believe a few CB500X's have crossed the Simpson.. I have no idea how.

Total loss lubrication system. Just like old Pommy bikes, they do their own oil change in your driveway!
Hahah I did this on a wr450 up at woodenbong. Expect I didn’t know I pumped all my oil out and therefore seized the engine 😳

Well how was the T7 in the sand
The bike was good. I think I still need some practice though. I am more happy with my Yamaha purchase every day ;)
No more walkie talkie on the handle bars?
How did you set up the bike compared to the 1190 you had before?
Nerb, great job in the sand mate. How much easier is the T7 to ride in deep sand, loaded vs unloaded?
Unloaded is much easier. The gear really gets thrown around and the suspension has to work harder bouncing around the extra weight.
Man! Australia adv riders are hard core AF . I couldn't hang
Haha time Mark ditched the Terra!
So, after watching you succesfully ride sand for 34 minutes, I still dont want anything to do with it!😀
