You aren't kidding when you say these ecu issues started happening pretty early on. I recently bought an eprom ecu that came out of a mint 92 Laser RS and it had a paper seal on it stating it had been repaired on 12/2000. Still works good thankfully.
hello, it's been a while since I've been here, I really like your videos, I've been hampered by work and health for a while, and my eclipse GSX has gone dormant, this procedure I did a year ago, one of the main symptoms is the cut of force around 3500 rpm, exactly as the detonation sensor acts with abnormal knocks, deceiving the search for the real defect. As you commented, it is important and preventively to look at these capacitors. Thanks for your videos they are always useful, brotherly hugs despite the distance.
What wonderful comments. Thanks so much for sharing your own symptoms you experienced. The more information people have in the community, the better. Thanks so much for the kind words too!
Very informative information from your personal knowledge much better then any text book or manual. Just getting in there finding out and looking at cross references. troubleshooting it’s just the Way to go, I can’t tell you how much I love people whose use things again. making stuff that’s apparently broken Have a second purpose because trash is not always trash to someone it could be a very useful treasure. But props to TMO I have a whole book of their Knowledge from 2001 Still thank God for being born in the 1990s and my dad working at a computer company. So thankful for slipping some time with you today, This was freaking awesome. keep up the hard work so excited she’s running again much appreciation as always brother
I am very happy to hear you have a book with all that history in it. It belongs in the DSM archives so no one forgets the events that took place that made the cars and it’s community roots so special.
@@SlippingTime when I get rich welding we’re building a museum one day and we’re going to collect all the memorabilia we can of the DSM history and I mean everything I owe it to you man
Yep. Just the domain name VFAQ tells the story of how DSM’ers were one of the earliest adopters of using the internet to share information. I have quite a few print outs of all the early day stuff. .
@@SlippingTime I remember back in 2000 finding out if I remove the pill restrictor in the oem 2 port on my 97 gsx I could get 14psi for free🤣🤣 good times.
Excellent video. I have often heard the words " its the ecu" nothing we can do but find a new one. This kind of video is really educational. I am still a little fearful of those silver boxes but if it's a case of fix or junk yard then I will open the box. Thanks
In this particular ECU the odds it will be the capacitors so it is worth an attempt for sure. Plus we need to keep as many alive as we can since they don’t produce them.
Mid 90's to early 2k's there was a worldwide capacitor problem particularly with electrolytics leaking out and or corroding On all types of electronics cars, appliances, stereo equipment etc,etc.... So typical malady for that era of equipment.
@@cristiancarvin3001 It is great to hear the information is useful to you. That’s a good question of where to find a copy of TMO. It used to be on the tmo site which is defunct now. Maybe post on the dsm forums.
@@SlippingTime I have searched on DSMtuners and other community’s, there isn’t a functioning link now. If you have the installer and are able to put it online it will be great for a lot of us.

Haven't seen TMO or VFAQ for a good long while. Made my heart happy. Keep 'em running!

I'm lucky to live in MD where ECM is, sent mine into them to have it fixed, affordable and quick.
That is definitely convenient. I am happy they took care of you and up and running quickly. They have down so much for the DSM community.
You are a genius !
Thanks for the info and i will replace the caps on my ecu cuz of you 👍
You are welcome DSM SLEEPER. It is good maintenance if they have never been done.
