I honestly agree with most of the rankings especially Mephiles, here's my personal ranking Best: Mephelis Dr Ivo Robotnik/Eggman Metal Sonic Merlina Erazor Djin Chaos Eggman Nega Infinite Zavok Lyric Dark Gaia Iblis Deadly 5 Captain Whiskers Black Doom King Arthur Worst: Imperitor Ix And hopefully this new character, who is clearly inspired by Infinite, if she is the villain of the game, she manages to do something to stand out.
I still wished they kept the original draft of him. His edge was not as cringe because he would have actually been violent and “born in this pain” as his theme says. I mean sure it was a Neo Metal Sonic rehash kind of but still better than this.

Although because of Shadow Generations, I have a feeling that the villain ranking will change because spoilers Black Doom got better, Eggman is becoming more serious, and Mephiles got an inferior voice performance
I’m also a fan of Lyric from Sonic Boom, I do kind of wish he was in the show since he was a really good villain in Rise of Lyric, Shattered Crystal Lyric is a total joke. Who ever does the voice of Lyric did a fantastic job making this snake sound robotic
Sadistic mercenaries, evil scientists, destructive robots, mages, demons, and actual gods? Quite the impressive lists of being to have as villains. Just goes to show how awesome the Sonic franchise can be. And even moreso how awesome Sonic and his friends are for beating them
I just wish more of them lasted beyond their debut appearances. Besides Eggman, the only recurring villains are Metal Sonic (whose potential has largely been wasted since Heroes), Eggman Nega (whose character lacked a clear sense of direction, and most likely died in Rivals 2 anyway) and Zavok (who should probably never have been a recurring villain to begin with). Sonic could use more of a rogues' gallery, I think.

Mephiles just dominates all, He knows he can easily win but he wants to put Shadow and Silver through hell simply because he can! Because later when Amy got mad at Silver he got upset and wondered if rather or not he should leave Sonic alone, Mephiles probably did this to crush Silver! He even does the one thing no other Sonic villain can ever do, Kill Sonic
I knew Mephiles would be number 1, and I 100% agree with that. He gets the spot of being the most evil sonic character alone, because he's the only villain to actually win (aka killing Sonic).
I also respect your love for the Deadly six, Infinite and Lyric and kinda agree although for me the Deadly five are alright, Zavok and Infinite are easily in my top 10 favorites however they could've been even better and Lyric is easily one of my favorites Sonic villains and for me the best Meta Era villain even compared to The End from Frontiers.
Have you ever noticed that Lyric and Mephiles are quite similar in terms of introduction? Because when they both meet their nemesis, they talk as if they have seen them before, but their nemesis does not know what they're talking about. But when their nemesis ends up going back in time, their nemesis finds out the origins.
I have high hopes for Frontiers in terms of its villain. Assuming Sage really is the main antagonist (and let's not kid ourselves, she definitely is), she's already got me hooked. The first new humanoid antagonist since Merlina, the third major female antagonist in the series, and her design might just be my favorite character design in the entire series. Her looking like a child reminds me of The Collector from The Owl House, and her color scheme definitely seems to imply a connection to Infinite and/or the Phantom Ruby. Can't wait to see her in action.

My top 5 Sonic Villains would be: 1. Mephiles the Dark: Despite 06 being… something, the writing was actually pretty good and Mephiles was written to be an excellent villain. Plus his design and theme song are very fitting for his character and give off a really creepy vibe. 2. Metal Sonic: He’s is the perfect foil for Sonic being the complete opposite of him. I really like how in Heroes, he’s given the proper chance to be his own character too and not just another Eggman lackey. 3. Dr. Eggman/Robotnik: What else do I need to say about him. 4. The End: Despite its final boss fight being a little underwhelming, I think the lead up to “The End being revealed as the main antagonist were handled well. Plus, the fact it’s known as the end of everything and it almost succeeded in wiping out the Ancients is honestly terrifying. Being strong enough to where even Super Sonic needed help to defeat it. Although, I’m not sure if it was truly destroyed after the events of Frontiers. Maybe the DLC will shed some more light onto it. 5. Mecha Sonic MK II: This is mainly for the fact that the fan sprite community has done a lot with him. Plus I alway thought he had a really cool design. I’m glad he’s being brought back in the IDW Comics too with Scrapnik Island. Although I haven’t had a chance to read those issues yet. Edit: I would’ve put Sage on this, but I don’t really consider her villain. More of a roadblock for Sonic, plus she redeems herself near the end of the game.
My top 5 favorites : 1- Mephiles: while O6 is questionable at best, this villain is pure creepiness and his laugh is just pure coolness. 2- Eggman: while Mephiles is number 1, Eggman is the GOAT of the franchise. 3- Metal Sonic: I really love his rivalry with Sonic and his Overlord voice in Sonic Heroes is Chef kiss. 4- Merlina: Disney should take notes because this is in exemple of a twist villain done right and Merlina should be more recognized. 5- Lyric: I felt that out of the Meta Era of Sonic games, Lyric is the best villain despite the games in which he appeared are both bad, Lyric is really overhated. His voice, design, and backstory are really great.
I appreciate how fair you were to the Deadly Six--I myself never thought they were as terrible as many Sonic fans make them out to be, although I still don't think Zavok was interesting enough on his own to justify bringing him back over and over. I also like that you specifically mentioned "With Me" in your analysis of Merlina--it's an awesome villain song that needs more attention. I'm not sure I agree with Mephiles getting the number one spot instead of Eggman, but that's a minor quibble.
As always, good video. For a series like Sonic, I'm surprised by how interesting some of the villains can be. And as for Charriii's Sonic 3 & Knuckles video, if I'm correct and Charriii mostly sinned gameplay, I think I'm not going to sin that video.
I really like this list, but I think Dark Gaia is everything he needs to be. Obviously well-written and complex villains are amazing, but Dark Gaia is just the personification of pure evil and the complete contrast to Chip. If they tried to justify his purpose to destroy the world, they would've flopped miserably. Plus, Eggman was an active threat throughout the game so he can provide the personality whilst simultaneously building up the major threat later on. (Unless you couldn't tell, I love Sonic Unleashed.)

I knew mephiles would be number 1. My favorite is a tie between Mephiles and eggman (jim carry being my favorite version of him) And while I do dislike zavok and the deadly six, they do have a good amount of redeeming qualities. and I like their music. I personally like infinite even though he could have been so much better. I love his theme as well. As for Lyric. While I still hate him imo. He does have some redeeming qualities like his motivation, I personally dislike his design but I can see why you like it. His voice is also great as well. So overall, lyric has a bit of redeeming qualities (UNLIKE JASPER BATT JR WHO HAS NONE WHAT SO EVER) great video as well and I am excited for the next one

I think you were very fair to all the villains. you didn't let bias or nostalgia get in the way. I agree with you on Sonic lost world and forces, the zavok and infinite I think were very intimidating. Zavok may be rather 2d, but he commits to it well and is very threatening and makes the stake of sonic lost world rather high. Infinite I think is a decent villain. he may be edgy, but he commits to it well. they even tried to give him a backstory, and while many people think his fit of anger of "i'm not weak" is extremely bland or childish, it isn't really explained in the game as to why it bothers him so much. good video
I am referring to the leader of the Hard Boiled Heavies that while you didn't see alot of, did try to steal the Master Emerald and later betrayed Eggman to take the Phantom Ruby for himself after he became Phantom King making the true final boss, a three-way battle between Super Sonic, Eggman, and Phantom King.

I wish Captain Whisker was a much better threat than he was initially. I will admit he did serve a significant role in the game. But, we gotta make room for Eggman and Eggman Nega since they haven't appeared in the entire game until the last part. (that's just my opinion.) A pirate villain shouldn't be spewing jokes 24/7. Mephiles The Dark is the best villains overall next to metal sonic to infinite and eggman. His motivation of taking over is brilliant cuz from the beginning all the way killing sonic was a fantastic plan to its finest. 😎😎😎

Mephiles is a great villian But i just cant help but love dark gaia. First his design is my favorite monster design in the sonic series having his boss battle at the CORE of the earth is epic. I hope dark gaia makes a comeback in the future games somehow.

Now that I think about it, the deadly six plus zavok are kinda copying the koopalings from Mario, because you fight them in each world in new super Mario Bros Wii, Same with the deadly six plus zavok In Sonic lost world, and they're seven of them in both games.

Well I may have disagreed with some of these placements (mainly chaos, and its not cus of nostalgia, I genuinely like him) but anything can differ from person to person, I definitely agreed with metalsonic being number 3, heres another reason why he can't beat sonic, its because he doesn't have the real super power of teamwork, in other words, they should bring back Tails doll and Metal knuckles for future installments, anyways, great video!
Also, here's another reason why mephiles went with the convoluted way of releasing ibis, there wouldn't be a story,if he didn't do it the way he did and took the easy route, the story would have barely any reason to be there

AGREE AGREE AGREE! There are a lot of games I haven’t played, Lost World being one of them, yet I agree with everyone placement. I have no connection to the original Adventure in terms of nostalgia, and I agree that Chaos isn’t all that great to me. Dark Gaia and Iblis couldn’t agree more, no mind makes them more bland to me. But Mephiles, he still creeps me out to this day, and I’m 19! He’s just that weird. Also, I like that he technically is a coward. Hides in the shadows, waits till Sonic’s guard is down. He is a cunning mastermind. I love him!
I wouldn't say Mephiles is a coward, more or so, he's playing smart. It's not like with Shadow where he could afford to mess around especially since messing around with Shadow doesn't affect his long terms goal, if he wanted to kill Sonic he needed to be careful about how he did it.
Also Dark Gaia isn't a mindless beast it knew how to overpower itself and tortured Sonic by stealing his werehog form while Sonic was suffering. It knew what it was doing but didn't care. Honestly Dark Gaia is a great villain.

Imperator Ix {Sonic Chronicles}- I don't know what to think of him since I've never played this game. 16. King Arthur {Sonic and the Black Knight}- He looks cool. 15. Black Doom {Shadow the Hedgehog}- Has a killer design and voice than can make anyone tremble at their knees. But his role as a villain kinda sucks. I do find his involvement in Shadow's creation/backstory interesting though. 14. Iblis {Sonic 06}- Looks terrifying. 13. Dark Gaia {Sonic Unleashed}- I think I'm gonna have nightmares looking at this unsightly monster.... 12. Captain Whisker {Sonic Rush Adventure}- Don't know him since I've never played this game. And like I've said in the Livestream chat in your 'Sonic Colors' video, the Sonic fandom are the ultimate villains. I also acknowledge that Metal appeared as an opponent to Sonic before Shadow, but that's my biaes against robot duplicates. Not to mention Shadow being one of my favorite characters.
Here's my ranking: 21: Imperator Ix: bland forgettable and I didn't even remember him until I watched your video. 20: Babylon Guardian: another forgettable villain, he's better than Ix but slightly. What I don't like about him is how there was no foreshadowing of this dude. 19: Erazor Djinn: it's just my opinion ok. Erazor Djinn is so boring and I really can't take him seriously or be intimidated by him. 18: King Arthur: he's more intimidating than the other three villains but he's underwhelming. 17: Eggman Nega: he's garbage and while he has more character than the others behind him, he's Eggman but really badly done. 16: Captain Wisker: Like Ix, if I hadn't watched your video, I would've forgotten him. Wisker is okay at best. 15: Gerald Robotnik and biolizard: decent villains that actually makes shadow's backstory better. 14: Black Doom: while he's boring, I don't think he's that bad since he's voice and design are really creepy and he does intimidate me a bit. 13: Abis: like with Babylon Guardian, there was no foreshadowing of this dude however, Abis is 10 times better than Babylon Guardian since he's cooler and has a better design. 12: Iblis: he's design is cool but that's it honestly since he should've had more character into him. 11: the deadly five: there okay but could've been better, here's my ranking of them. I like Mephilies, but I feel like they went with the wrong god for him to have been a part of. I mean, a shadow monster and a fire/lava monster are the two separate parts of a time god??? With how gruesome and horrible Mephilies is, I feel like he should have been a war god or something. I honestly thought he was a sun god, ngl. I agree that as the only villain (or at leaast the first) to kill Sonic, Mephilies is the best villain. Metal Sonic WISHES he was even a fraction of the villain Meph is, and I love Metal Sonic. I just wish that at least ONE of the Mephilies fights was with Sonic and not just Shadow.

Probably for me (excepting Eggman and Metal Sonic) I would think on team Hoolingan too (Bean, Bark and Fang the Sniper). I loved them for the Archie comics, but I've also enjoyed them in Mania in Mirage Saloon, despite they were mere illusions of Heavy Magician. I hope they come back in the main games, they are so forgotten :( Anyway nice video😁

Personally, i still wouldve put characters like Shadow, Jet, etc on the list for their time as a "Villian" before turned homie. Especially someone like Shadow. But it does make sense why they arent present
How is Dark Gaia mindless beast ? It knows that some of it's power is in the werehog and she shielded herself so both The Gaia colossus and Sonic can't attack
Okay, maybe it has some intelligence, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s largely a beast. It doesn’t have any personality nor does it have any major presence outside of the occasional mention. Eggman takes up the villain role for most of the game.

To be frank, the reason critical people don't like modern Eggman is because his goofy side fails at being actually funny. One intricate character analyzer I forgot the name of stated that in his video of Eggman from genius to joke, the act of scratching his butt in sa2 was funnier than anything he did in games like Lost World.
It's a shame you don't have any inrest in The IDW Comics because Zavok and the rest of Deadly Six is pretty much better there than he is in Lost World (at least in my opinion).
While I do think this is a solid ranking video there are some parts I disagree with which is mainly Zavok, aside from his design just being lazy he has no real impact, depth or motivation. Why does he want to take over the world? who knows, even when he betrays Eggman he really doesn't do much besides sit in a dark room and work on machinery which feels like something Eggman would do just making him an extension, he barely actually does anything and when he tries to do something it has no payoff like when he turned Tails into a cyborg just for him to instantly turn on him. Honestly you could ditch the entire betray Eggman arc and nothing would feel out of place, even the game forgets about him near the end which just says, "If the game doesn't care about him then why should I?"
To be fair, not every villain needs a motivation. Eggman has been trying to conquer the world for years, and we still don’t know why. Some villains are just evil for the sake of being evil.

To me Zavok is more akin to Ganondorf than Bowser, because Bowser isn’t ever this serious. Nontheless, to me the Deadly Six were an all right one time thing but nothing I’d want back.
Bowser does get serious at times like in Mario Galaxy, Dream Team, Paper Jam, and especially the 2023 Mario movie ( I know the movie isn’t really canon to the series but I thought it was worth bringing up) but other than that yeah Zavok in terms of personality is closer to Ganondorf.

Infinite wasn't upset because of Shadow calling him weak, he was upset because he lost his squad, AKA his friends, AKA his family.
I still wished they kept the original draft of him. His edge was not as cringe because he would have actually been violent and “born in this pain” as his theme says. I mean sure it was a Neo Metal Sonic rehash kind of but still better than this.
You serious? He barely cared when Eggman told him his squad was wiped out, instead choosing to gloat about how hes ultimate mercenary. Then begins to cry about how hes not weak post getting his ass handed to him.

I’m also a fan of Lyric from Sonic Boom, I do kind of wish he was in the show since he was a really good villain in Rise of Lyric, Shattered Crystal Lyric is a total joke. Who ever does the voice of Lyric did a fantastic job making this snake sound robotic

Sadistic mercenaries, evil scientists, destructive robots, mages, demons, and actual gods? Quite the impressive lists of being to have as villains. Just goes to show how awesome the Sonic franchise can be.
And even moreso how awesome Sonic and his friends are for beating them
I just wish more of them lasted beyond their debut appearances. Besides Eggman, the only recurring villains are Metal Sonic (whose potential has largely been wasted since Heroes), Eggman Nega (whose character lacked a clear sense of direction, and most likely died in Rivals 2 anyway) and Zavok (who should probably never have been a recurring villain to begin with). Sonic could use more of a rogues' gallery, I think.

I knew Mephiles would be number 1, and I 100% agree with that. He gets the spot of being the most evil sonic character alone, because he's the only villain to actually win (aka killing Sonic).

I also respect your love for the Deadly six, Infinite and Lyric and kinda agree although for me the Deadly five are alright, Zavok and Infinite are easily in my top 10 favorites however they could've been even better and Lyric is easily one of my favorites Sonic villains and for me the best Meta Era villain even compared to The End from Frontiers.
Have you ever noticed that Lyric and Mephiles are quite similar in terms of introduction? Because when they both meet their nemesis, they talk as if they have seen them before, but their nemesis does not know what they're talking about. But when their nemesis ends up going back in time, their nemesis finds out the origins.

I have high hopes for Frontiers in terms of its villain. Assuming Sage really is the main antagonist (and let's not kid ourselves, she definitely is), she's already got me hooked. The first new humanoid antagonist since Merlina, the third major female antagonist in the series, and her design might just be my favorite character design in the entire series. Her looking like a child reminds me of The Collector from The Owl House, and her color scheme definitely seems to imply a connection to Infinite and/or the Phantom Ruby. Can't wait to see her in action.

Finally merlina getting some acknowledgement, You are based.
My top 5 Sonic Villains would be:
1. Mephiles the Dark: Despite 06 being… something, the writing was actually pretty good and Mephiles was written to be an excellent villain. Plus his design and theme song are very fitting for his character and give off a really creepy vibe.
2. Metal Sonic: He’s is the perfect foil for Sonic being the complete opposite of him. I really like how in Heroes, he’s given the proper chance to be his own character too and not just another Eggman lackey.
3. Dr. Eggman/Robotnik: What else do I need to say about him.
4. The End: Despite its final boss fight being a little underwhelming, I think the lead up to “The End being revealed as the main antagonist were handled well. Plus, the fact it’s known as the end of everything and it almost succeeded in wiping out the Ancients is honestly terrifying. Being strong enough to where even Super Sonic needed help to defeat it. Although, I’m not sure if it was truly destroyed after the events of Frontiers. Maybe the DLC will shed some more light onto it.
5. Mecha Sonic MK II: This is mainly for the fact that the fan sprite community has done a lot with him. Plus I alway thought he had a really cool design. I’m glad he’s being brought back in the IDW Comics too with Scrapnik Island. Although I haven’t had a chance to read those issues yet.
Edit: I would’ve put Sage on this, but I don’t really consider her villain. More of a roadblock for Sonic, plus she redeems herself near the end of the game.
My top 5 favorites :
1- Mephiles: while O6 is questionable at best, this villain is pure creepiness and his laugh is just pure coolness.
2- Eggman: while Mephiles is number 1, Eggman is the GOAT of the franchise.
3- Metal Sonic: I really love his rivalry with Sonic and his Overlord voice in Sonic Heroes is Chef kiss.
4- Merlina: Disney should take notes because this is in exemple of a twist villain done right and Merlina should be more recognized.
5- Lyric: I felt that out of the Meta Era of Sonic games, Lyric is the best villain despite the games in which he appeared are both bad, Lyric is really overhated. His voice, design, and backstory are really great.
I appreciate how fair you were to the Deadly Six--I myself never thought they were as terrible as many Sonic fans make them out to be, although I still don't think Zavok was interesting enough on his own to justify bringing him back over and over. I also like that you specifically mentioned "With Me" in your analysis of Merlina--it's an awesome villain song that needs more attention. I'm not sure I agree with Mephiles getting the number one spot instead of Eggman, but that's a minor quibble.
As always, good video. For a series like Sonic, I'm surprised by how interesting some of the villains can be. And as for Charriii's Sonic 3 & Knuckles video, if I'm correct and Charriii mostly sinned gameplay, I think I'm not going to sin that video.

I really like this list, but I think Dark Gaia is everything he needs to be. Obviously well-written and complex villains are amazing, but Dark Gaia is just the personification of pure evil and the complete contrast to Chip. If they tried to justify his purpose to destroy the world, they would've flopped miserably. Plus, Eggman was an active threat throughout the game so he can provide the personality whilst simultaneously building up the major threat later on.
(Unless you couldn't tell, I love Sonic Unleashed.)

I knew mephiles would be number 1. My favorite is a tie between Mephiles and eggman (jim carry being my favorite version of him) And while I do dislike zavok and the deadly six, they do have a good amount of redeeming qualities. and I like their music. I personally like infinite even though he could have been so much better. I love his theme as well. As for Lyric. While I still hate him imo. He does have some redeeming qualities like his motivation, I personally dislike his design but I can see why you like it. His voice is also great as well. So overall, lyric has a bit of redeeming qualities (UNLIKE JASPER BATT JR WHO HAS NONE WHAT SO EVER) great video as well and I am excited for the next one

I agree with you on Sonic lost world and forces, the zavok and infinite I think were very intimidating. Zavok may be rather 2d, but he commits to it well and is very threatening and makes the stake of sonic lost world rather high. Infinite I think is a decent villain. he may be edgy, but he commits to it well. they even tried to give him a backstory, and while many people think his fit of anger of "i'm not weak" is extremely bland or childish, it isn't really explained in the game as to why it bothers him so much.

I am referring to the leader of the Hard Boiled Heavies that while you didn't see alot of, did try to steal the Master Emerald and later betrayed Eggman to take the Phantom Ruby for himself after he became Phantom King making the true final boss, a three-way battle between Super Sonic, Eggman, and Phantom King.

I wish Captain Whisker was a much better threat than he was initially. I will admit he did serve a significant role in the game. But, we gotta make room for Eggman and Eggman Nega since they haven't appeared in the entire game until the last part. (that's just my opinion.) A pirate villain shouldn't be spewing jokes 24/7. They have to be scary.
Infinite did have wasted potential, but his power is just ridiculous.

Well I may have disagreed with some of these placements (mainly chaos, and its not cus of nostalgia, I genuinely like him) but anything can differ from person to person, I definitely agreed with metalsonic being number 3, heres another reason why he can't beat sonic, its because he doesn't have the real super power of teamwork, in other words, they should bring back Tails doll and Metal knuckles for future installments, anyways, great video!
Also, here's another reason why mephiles went with the convoluted way of releasing ibis, there wouldn't be a story,if he didn't do it the way he did and took the easy route, the story would have barely any reason to be there

AGREE AGREE AGREE! There are a lot of games I haven’t played, Lost World being one of them, yet I agree with everyone placement. I have no connection to the original Adventure in terms of nostalgia, and I agree that Chaos isn’t all that great to me. Dark Gaia and Iblis couldn’t agree more, no mind makes them more bland to me. But Mephiles, he still creeps me out to this day, and I’m 19! He’s just that weird. Also, I like that he technically is a coward. Hides in the shadows, waits till Sonic’s guard is down. He is a cunning mastermind. I love him!
I wouldn't say Mephiles is a coward, more or so, he's playing smart. It's not like with Shadow where he could afford to mess around especially since messing around with Shadow doesn't affect his long terms goal, if he wanted to kill Sonic he needed to be careful about how he did it.
Also Dark Gaia isn't a mindless beast it knew how to overpower itself and tortured Sonic by stealing his werehog form while Sonic was suffering. It knew what it was doing but didn't care. Honestly Dark Gaia is a great villain.

16. King Arthur {Sonic and the Black Knight}- He looks cool.
15. Black Doom {Shadow the Hedgehog}- Has a killer design and voice than can make anyone tremble at their knees. But his role as a villain kinda sucks. I do find his involvement in Shadow's creation/backstory interesting though.

5. Merlina {Sonic and the Black Knight}- She's pretty cool. She reminds me of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch from MCU.

@@tonysonic456 You need to watch the Metarex saga. It's great! It's surprises me that no one takes about them despite Sonic X being non-canon to games. And like I've said in the Livestream chat in your 'Sonic Colors' video, the Sonic fandom are the ultimate villains. I also acknowledge that Metal appeared as an opponent to Sonic before Shadow, but that's my biaes against robot duplicates. Not to mention Shadow being one of my favorite characters.

Here's my ranking:
21: Imperator Ix: bland forgettable and I didn't even remember him until I watched your video.
20: Babylon Guardian: another forgettable villain, he's better than Ix but slightly. What I don't like about him is how there was no foreshadowing of this dude.
19: Erazor Djinn: it's just my opinion ok. Erazor Djinn is so boring and I really can't take him seriously or be intimidated by him.
18: King Arthur: he's more intimidating than the other three villains but he's underwhelming.
17: Eggman Nega: he's garbage and while he has more character than the others behind him, he's Eggman but really badly done.
16: Captain Wisker: Like Ix, if I hadn't watched your video, I would've forgotten him. Wisker is okay at best.
15: Gerald Robotnik and biolizard: decent villains that actually makes shadow's backstory better.
14: Black Doom: while he's boring, I don't think he's that bad since he's voice and design are really creepy and he does intimidate me a bit.
13: Abis: like with Babylon Guardian, there was no foreshadowing of this dude however, Abis is 10 times better than Babylon Guardian since he's cooler and has a better design.
12: Iblis: he's design is cool but that's it honestly since he should've had more character into him.
11: the deadly five: there okay but could've been better, here's my ranking of them.
My least favorite: Zor, Master Zik, Zeena, Zomon and Zazz is the GOAT of the five.
10: Infinite: he's motives sucks and he could've been better but he's voice actor, theme song and design looks really good.
9: The End: while it's boss fight is underwhelming, The End is a intimidating villain however, like Dark Gaia, she wasn't in the game that much.
8: Dark Gaia: I think that he's a great villain even if not in the game that much. He's design is creepy, both normal and perfect form.
7: Zavok: like Infinite, Zavok could've been explored more. However, he's a great villain, I love how he's intimidating and smart at the same time. He's voice actor and he's design are also great.
6: Chaos: I think Chaos has a cool backstory, a cool defeat, a cool design and a cool final form however, he could've had more in his character like a voice or more personality.
5: Lyric the Ancient: I know you might be mad but I love Lyric and I think he's the best thing about Rise of lyric. He's design, backstory, voice actor and boss fight are incredible. My only complaint is Shattered Crystal's Lyric who is underwhelming.
4: Merlina: She's a great twist villain.
3: Metal Sonic: it's obvious.
2: Eggman: like Metal Sonic.
1: Mephiles the Dark: really obvious.

I like Mephilies, but I feel like they went with the wrong god for him to have been a part of. I mean, a shadow monster and a fire/lava monster are the two separate parts of a time god??? With how gruesome and horrible Mephilies is, I feel like he should have been a war god or something. I honestly thought he was a sun god, ngl.
I agree that as the only villain (or at leaast the first) to kill Sonic, Mephilies is the best villain. Metal Sonic WISHES he was even a fraction of the villain Meph is, and I love Metal Sonic. I just wish that at least ONE of the Mephilies fights was with Sonic and not just Shadow.

Knowing that I’m dropping a massive spoiler here, I will sincerely implore you to check out Dimension Obliteration by thechocobro. This guy takes advantage of Eggman Nega’s unused potential to its fullest extent.
Probably for me (excepting Eggman and Metal Sonic) I would think on team Hoolingan too (Bean, Bark and Fang the Sniper). I loved them for the Archie comics, but I've also enjoyed them in Mania in Mirage Saloon, despite they were mere illusions of Heavy Magician.
I hope they come back in the main games, they are so forgotten :(

Personally, i still wouldve put characters like Shadow, Jet, etc on the list for their time as a "Villian" before turned homie. Especially someone like Shadow. But it does make sense why they arent present
How is Dark Gaia mindless beast ? It knows that some of it's power is in the werehog and she shielded herself so both The Gaia colossus and Sonic can't attack
Okay, maybe it has some intelligence, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s largely a beast. It doesn’t have any personality nor does it have any major presence outside of the occasional mention. Eggman takes up the villain role for most of the game.

To be frank, the reason critical people don't like modern Eggman is because his goofy side fails at being actually funny.
One intricate character analyzer I forgot the name of stated that in his video of Eggman from genius to joke, the act of scratching his butt in sa2 was funnier than anything he did in games like Lost World.

Time Eater is not really a villain, it’s just a pawn in Eggman’s scheme.
Maybe both Eggman Negas are from separate dimensions, and BOTH backstories are canon as such.
It's a shame you don't have any inrest in The IDW Comics because Zavok and the rest of Deadly Six is pretty much better there than he is in Lost World (at least in my opinion).
While I do think this is a solid ranking video there are some parts I disagree with which is mainly Zavok, aside from his design just being lazy he has no real impact, depth or motivation. Why does he want to take over the world? who knows, even when he betrays Eggman he really doesn't do much besides sit in a dark room and work on machinery which feels like something Eggman would do just making him an extension, he barely actually does anything and when he tries to do something it has no payoff like when he turned Tails into a cyborg just for him to instantly turn on him.
Honestly you could ditch the entire betray Eggman arc and nothing would feel out of place, even the game forgets about him near the end which just says, "If the game doesn't care about him then why should I?"
To be fair, not every villain needs a motivation. Eggman has been trying to conquer the world for years, and we still don’t know why. Some villains are just evil for the sake of being evil.

To me Zavok is more akin to Ganondorf than Bowser, because Bowser isn’t ever this serious. Nontheless, to me the Deadly Six were an all right one time thing but nothing I’d want back.
Bowser does get serious at times like in Mario Galaxy, Dream Team, Paper Jam, and especially the 2023 Mario movie ( I know the movie isn’t really canon to the series but I thought it was worth bringing up) but other than that yeah Zavok in terms of personality is closer to Ganondorf.
