Honestly, I would consider SA2’s villain to be Geralt Robotnik. Sure, he’s already dead by that point in the story, but every important plot point happens because of him (Shadow, the ARK,). The Biolizard is just an extension of Dr Geralt’s will, who wanted to destroy the whole world as revenge. I think he ranks pretty easily in A-Tier for how his presence looms all over the story.
This. Biolizard isn’t the true villain of SA2, Gerald is, and in my opinion he’s one of the most compelling villains in the franchise. His actions between altering the entire space colony to be a planet shattering nuke, and effectively brainwashing Shadow (and perhaps even the prototype) into sharing his twisted worldview are absolutely monsterous, but at the same time you have some sympathy for him and understand just what horrible things happened in his last years that turned him into the evil bitter old man we see in SA2’s finale
I mean Perfect Dark Gaia has the fact that it is one of the only if not the only entity in the history of sonic capable of actually harming Super Sonic.

I like Infinite in a "so edgy and stupid he's endearing" way. He's up there in my top three, behind Metal Sonic and whether I prefer Mephiles or Infinite as second place depends on the day.
I agree with the TH-camr salty DK Dan that it would be cool if they brought him back but with the personality of meta-era shadow well having Shadow have an actual good personality
Infinite's backstory could be improved easily by making Shadow's attack the straw that broke the camels back; make the events that his phantom copies are part of be the cause of his development into the villain he is. Make him a background character that experienced the parts of the story that are glossed over; station square flooding, Metal's Egg Fleets attack followed by the Black Arms invasion, maybe some dark gaia planet shattering, and the siphoning of life energy by Zavok. In the actual story is a different story.
Shadow's attack was the weight that broke infinite's back. Infinite and Jackle squad were bounty hunters that would kill or find valuables for money. Not exactly fancy living. Infinite is clearly fed up with the world and wants it to burn (which he even states in the prequel comic. Shadow killing his squad is what finally tipped him over into volunteering himself for the phantom ruby, so that he could make the world( and by proxy shadow) suffer for his pain that he's endured. My only big problem with infinite's backstory is that Shadow was the one to kill his squad. Shadow wouldn't kill people that stand next to no chance at beating him. To Shadow a bunch of mercenaries are nothing to him. That was so out of character. That's my only big gripe with Infinite's backstory

That whole part about Dark Gaia was straight up wrong, the people were shown all the time to be concerned about the planet being split apart. That one ice cream guy was the only person really trying to stay happy despite everything and honestly he probably didn't even know the planet split. The townsfolk in Spagonia all danced around because they were possessed, they weren't just not caring about the planet breaking. The clips in this video are cut in a way that purposely misleads the whole story of Unleashed, they never play it off or act like we shouldn't take Dark Gaia seriously. They do the exact opposite and always picture him as the gigantic threat he is. Furthermore I can just tell this guy is another typical "Meta era is Satan's spawn and villains must be super in depth and have book like motivations" that mindset is just really bad.

Honestly Erazor Djinn is actually a whole lot more evil than you give him credit for. For starters Erazor Djinn was already erasing many numerous worlds in the Arabian Nights, so that means that he has been outright killing who knows how many beings already before Sharah met Sonic. Second Erazor Djinn tries to actually outright get Sonic killed not once but multiple times throughout the game, either indirectly or not. And last but not least he was the first and only villain in the Sonic franchise to have killed someone who Sonic considered to be a friend and make Sonic turn into a completely dark form. Sure Erazor may not get alot of screen time compared to Mephiles or make a huge impression like Neo Metal Sonic, but Erazor Djinn is undoubtedly one of the few Sonic villains who has successfully gotten on Sonic's nerves

This might be an unpopular option but I believe infinite needs a second chance and better motivation to drive him to villainy, the reason I believe this is because he reminds of silver, both were underutilized, misunderstood and fans have made fun of these characters misfortune, but unlike infinite silver was able to grow as a character in the comics and become useful and back then when he was introduced I would defend silvers character because he has a lot of potential the problem was sega didn't write his character properly and made him annoying but if u give him a chance u can bet silver can be one of the coolest sonic characters out there and I believe infinite is in the same boat until sega get there shit together I believe infinite needs a second chance Anda better thrive to become baddest characters out there

That's pretty cool how they used some elements of Sonic 06, although Mephilis should have completely stopped exiting after blowing out the flame of Solaris; and having such an amazing villain as Mephilis being associated with "The Turd Eater" is an affront against God.

11:18 My theory: They originally wanted something big to literally crush the opposition with, hence they made the Bio-Lizard but soon discovered due to its size, power and overall animal behaviour, it was difficult to control (Just imagine trying to transport that thing to battle). They then decided that something smaller, intelligent, more likely to listen to commands and still powerful would be better route....hence shadow was created. Although how the Bio-Lizard survived for years with no food or water is beyond me (Perhaps it’s Back-device acts like food).

Actually Eggman Nega is a lot more interesting than people think he is, for one his goals and his personality are the opposite of regular Eggman, one example being Eggman is very inpatient and rude, meanwhile Eggman Nega acts very polite and is extremely patient

I like to think part of why project shadow went from a Kaiju to Shadow, and why shadows quilts resemble Super Sonics, is because Gerald and his team were researching the ruins. The mural from S3&K depicting Super(or Hyper if you managed to get the Super Emeralds) Sonic duking it out with Eggman as well as the mural of Perfect Chaos in SA1 could’ve provided Gerald with the idea of what an ultimate life form could be, and I think the proof of this lies in the core of the Ark, that’s shrine is obviously meant to mimic the one on Angel island, at least in the Adventure era. This could be entirely crackpot or hell even untrue, but a solid and sound explanation of why project shadow went from Kaiju to edgie the hedgie from Sonic team would be nice, but I doubt we’ll ever get a proper explanation.
Unpopular opinion: Erazor Jinn is an actually alright villain for me. I think the arrow heart was an interesting of keeping suspense through Sonic’s journey, as it’s a race against time before his death. I don’t think Erazor’s motivation was bad in any means. And he has history with Shara that could be further explored.

I definitely see Merlina as an antagonist, but not a villain. The difference between those two terms is that an antagonist is someone who is in opposition/serves as an obstacle or threat to the protagonist, while a villain is a character whose evil actions affect other individuals or the plot itself. Thus, all villains are antagonists (unless said game narrative takes place via the antagonist's perspective making him/her/they the protagonist), but not all antagonists are villains. Hence, because Merlina's actions can all be steemed under "good but drastic" and she is against Sonic's efforts towards the end of Black Knight, she passes the antagonist requirements, but not the villain one. Or at least, that's how I see it. But even still, she's a great character none the less that I feel for.

Why you done did my boy Ix so dirty? I thought he was a cool villain, he's basically an evil dictator who's so powerful and menacing that he scared an entire dimension of convicts into serving him unconditionally. He emotionally manipulated his entire kingdom to the point that Shade was convinced of his pure intentions despite how obviously evil he was, and even when she was broken out of his grasp she still was unable to really lead a normal life, needing to follow someone because that's how she was raised. Also despite not really having any "forms" Ix is one of if not *the* strongest base form character we've seen, so that's gotta count for something. I think he deserves more credit then you're giving him.
I feel like Neo has to be the coolest boss of all time, an evil robotic doppelgänger gets so sick of getting his ass handed to him by the being he’s supposed to defeat that he kidnaps his own boss, upgrades himself with the biggest emerald of all time, copies the powers of some of the strongest life-forms in the universe, becomes a giant metal monster for the sole purpose of punting sonic into the sun. Not to mention the song ‘What I’m made of’ is written for him. It’s like all of Metals goals and drive to succeed put into one song! Epic.
I love that you mentioned vergil and ardyn as villains for example. Ardyn is so often forgotten but his absolutely great (sephiroth too 🙏). And I must say mephilles and shadow have got to be the two best villains in the sonic series

I think for SA2, Gerald is more of the villain than the biolizard. Cause the events of that game only happens because of his mission for revenge for what happened on the arc. He manipulates Shadows memories to carry out his plan, leaves a vague journal that "coincidently" made its way to Eggman so that he'd find and wake Shadow up and re-purposed the ark and biolizard to destroy the earth. All to complete a plan that wouldn't fully be carried out till 50 years after his death.
honestly I kanda like Erazor Djin, mainly because of how good a job he does of making the player hate him he constantly insults sonic, puts him on timer to bring him the seven world rings or he will die, and even kills Shara while trying to kill sonic, this makes his final defeat where he's forced back into his lamp all the more satisfying

33:41 Technically speaking, it was either one of the devs, or one of the plot writers for sonic generations, HAS gone on record saying that the strange creature eggman found in space to create the time eater, was in fact what remained of mephiles after escaping the destroyed timeline, this is why crisis city shows up in generations at all.

That's pretty cool how they used some elements of Sonic 06, although Mephilis should have completely stopped exiting after blowing out the flame of Solaris; and having such an amazing villain as Mephilis being associated with "The Turd Eater" is an affront against God.

My theory:
They originally wanted something big to literally crush the opposition with, hence they made the Bio-Lizard but soon discovered due to its size, power and overall animal behaviour, it was difficult to control (Just imagine trying to transport that thing to battle).
They then decided that something smaller, intelligent, more likely to listen to commands and still powerful would be better route....hence shadow was created.
Although how the Bio-Lizard survived for years with no food or water is beyond me (Perhaps it’s Back-device acts like food).

I would argue that, if you're gonna consider Metal Sonic an extension of Eggman, shouldn't the Biolizard be considered an extension of Gerald?
Also, Merlina is 100% a villain. she's a tragic villain, and I think a very well realized one, but a villain nonetheless.

Actually Eggman Nega is a lot more interesting than people think he is, for one his goals and his personality are the opposite of regular Eggman, one example being Eggman is very inpatient and rude, meanwhile Eggman Nega acts very polite and is extremely patient

I like to think part of why project shadow went from a Kaiju to Shadow, and why shadows quilts resemble Super Sonics, is because Gerald and his team were researching the ruins. The mural from S3&K depicting Super(or Hyper if you managed to get the Super Emeralds) Sonic duking it out with Eggman as well as the mural of Perfect Chaos in SA1 could’ve provided Gerald with the idea of what an ultimate life form could be, and I think the proof of this lies in the core of the Ark, that’s shrine is obviously meant to mimic the one on Angel island, at least in the Adventure era. This could be entirely crackpot or hell even untrue, but a solid and sound explanation of why project shadow went from Kaiju to edgie the hedgie from Sonic team would be nice, but I doubt we’ll ever get a proper explanation.

Unpopular opinion: Erazor Jinn is an actually alright villain for me. I think the arrow heart was an interesting of keeping suspense through Sonic’s journey, as it’s a race against time before his death. I don’t think Erazor’s motivation was bad in any means. And he has history with Shara that could be further explored.
Good video!! I don't agree with your standards fir what counts as a villain (I can get excluding Shadow, but Malenia definitely counts, she's just a sympathetic villain), but your style is great, abd your opinions are also good (metal sonic is factually awesome).
I definitely see Merlina as an antagonist, but not a villain. The difference between those two terms is that an antagonist is someone who is in opposition/serves as an obstacle or threat to the protagonist, while a villain is a character whose evil actions affect other individuals or the plot itself.
Thus, all villains are antagonists (unless said game narrative takes place via the antagonist's perspective making him/her/they the protagonist), but not all antagonists are villains.
Hence, because Merlina's actions can all be steemed under "good but drastic" and she is against Sonic's efforts towards the end of Black Knight, she passes the antagonist requirements, but not the villain one.
Or at least, that's how I see it. But even still, she's a great character none the less that I feel for.

Why you done did my boy Ix so dirty? I thought he was a cool villain, he's basically an evil dictator who's so powerful and menacing that he scared an entire dimension of convicts into serving him unconditionally. He emotionally manipulated his entire kingdom to the point that Shade was convinced of his pure intentions despite how obviously evil he was, and even when she was broken out of his grasp she still was unable to really lead a normal life, needing to follow someone because that's how she was raised. Also despite not really having any "forms" Ix is one of if not *the* strongest base form character we've seen, so that's gotta count for something. I think he deserves more credit then you're giving him.

I feel like Neo has to be the coolest boss of all time, an evil robotic doppelgänger gets so sick of getting his ass handed to him by the being he’s supposed to defeat that he kidnaps his own boss, upgrades himself with the biggest emerald of all time, copies the powers of some of the strongest life-forms in the universe, becomes a giant metal monster for the sole purpose of punting sonic into the sun.
Not to mention the song ‘What I’m made of’ is written for him. It’s like all of Metals goals and drive to succeed put into one song! Epic.
I love that you mentioned vergil and ardyn as villains for example. Ardyn is so often forgotten but his absolutely great (sephiroth too 🙏). And I must say mephilles and shadow have got to be the two best villains in the sonic series

Pretty sure it is, saying how that's how Sonic met Silver, since Sonic 06 has been confirmed to not be canon or at least it's story didn't leave an impact to the canon and basically never happened.

Metal Sonic, is easily my favorite Sonic villain, and Shadow although not an out and out villain is just my most favorite Sonic character in general.
I think for SA2, Gerald is more of the villain than the biolizard. Cause the events of that game only happens because of his mission for revenge for what happened on the arc. He manipulates Shadows memories to carry out his plan, leaves a vague journal that "coincidently" made its way to Eggman so that he'd find and wake Shadow up and re-purposed the ark and biolizard to destroy the earth. All to complete a plan that wouldn't fully be carried out till 50 years after his death.

honestly I kanda like Erazor Djin, mainly because of how good a job he does of making the player hate him he constantly insults sonic, puts him on timer to bring him the seven world rings or he will die, and even kills Shara while trying to kill sonic, this makes his final defeat where he's forced back into his lamp all the more satisfying

My fave villain has GOT to be Mephiles, you said it all in the video, he's just an amazing villain. He has it all, cool music, creates a perfectly tense atmosphere, the looks and the mannerisms, like how he walks towards Shadow in his intro, the way he talks is so. perfect . and his manipulation of the characters is so cool to see.
