Things that I've done while watching podcast
    1. Wear my helmet and checked fit according to shumi
    2. Tighten my buckles cause I never done that
3.cleaned my visor cause it was pretty dirty
And realised that it's high time to gift myself a new helmet .

Hey ,late comment but still I'll try
So as a price range these are good companies but the specific helmet is left to you
Below 10k is mt helmets (aspida .com)

@@samkul1699 will have to disagree, 15-30k is where most of the good brands are having many good helmets. HJC, Scorpion, Bell etc have really good helmets in this range. AGV has okay helmets in less than 25k range. I'm using AGV K3 Sv and it's okay at best, most low priced Agv helmets just look good.

@@powerdriftofficial when the topic has come down to choosing the right helmet, i think the next video should present topics like ethical riding and about choosing the right riding gear for a biker which would focus more on beginners. If this seems to create a monotony in the taste of videos, we should go for topics like conduct and brotherhood related in biker community or fun topics like why should we take part in rallies and stuff like that. Since podcasts are usually done on topics of certain importance, these should be really good. And now it depends on what is more important; choosing great topics as a creator ..or choosing more consumable content for the masses. Its so crazy how so many young riders who are just learning how to ride motorcycles, want to "LOOK GOOD" on their bikes and roll upto college on a sports bike but not wear a helmet in the process. I'm just 17, and out of the 10-12 people around me who drive bikes everyday, only 2 have the habit of using helmets properly.
My dad taught me how to ride an activa a year and a half ago, but I'm still not allowed to drive it out on main roads because I cannot find a snug fit helmet, It was always quite annoying but 28 minutes of helmet theory and it all makes sense now

Just my few words for people reading the comments. I have seen many people wanting to buy a motorbike worth 2L or 4L and dont want to invest a good 30K-50K on a helmet, but seen them spending 30K on a mobile phone. Students or anyone these days are able to afford a minimum of 10-15K worth smartphone, it’s an essestial these days, but I would say a helmet is more essential than the mobilephone. Back in 2012 when I met with an accident at 50kmph while riding my Yamaha Gladiator my helmet was completely knocked off and I was wearing an Airoh helmet which I bought for 8K. Since then I never looked back on investing money when ever I could on a helmet. Later I upgraded to Nolan X603 then to a Shoei and now I currently use an Arai. Be there to explain your story but dont become a story to others. #RideSafe.

Thank you for covering a very basic topic of riding that...YOU NEED TO WEAR HELMET WHILE RIDING. It does not matter if you are going to a race track, cruising or going to the market to buy vegetables. YOU NEED TO WEAR A HELMET WHILE RIDING YOUR MOTORCYCLE. Not only it protects you but you look awesome when you wear good riding gears. Thank you again for this video. Please make a video on the importance riding gears and how you should choose one, specially leg guards(if a person is not able to afford a riding pant).

    • @powerdriftofficial
      @powerdriftofficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome, Raminder!
About the leg guards, we'd recommend something that can perfectly cover your knees and shins.
Although do understand, the guards are only meant for impact protection, not abrasion. And in case of a spill, the straps can break and the guards can come off.
A good riding pant is can reduce abrasion injuries as well.
Do watch this to get an idea how the pants can help : th-cam.com/video/gkQDO6fcEoU/w-d-xo.html

Very happy to see indian moto journos focussing on safety. Powerdrift is probably an outlier, but nevertheless.... I happen to be one of the folks who bought a snell cerfitied helmet 5-6 years ago without the benefit of any peer group or indian moto journo talk about it. So totally agree with most of the things you say about prioritising safety/fit etc etc.. Shared this video with my peer groups (i almost never fwd anything :-))
However, I don't see any data behind "better than certification requirement" anywhere. From whatever i can read, Snell seems to be the most stringent impact force absorption test while comparing certifications from the same time periods. And there are snell certified helmets for $100-150 or so. The only way a helmet can be "proven" to be much safer than standards, is to share some data. Maybe something like 2x Snell forces req or something.
If you've seen any comparison like this (preferrably by 3rd party, but even manufacturer data is ok), please share that.
The rest of the sites talking about Arai , focus on small company, extreme inspection, handmade and thats why its expensive etc etc etc. The same thing can be said of a rolls royce, but i am not sure it will be safer than any other 5* rated car in the same weight/height class. While it sounds fancy, reasons like handmade, extreme inspection etc aren't what we should be looking for. For eg:, i would argue a machine built part is likely to have much lesser deviation from spec with much lesser defects. Instead of all these things, manufacturers should simply share technical data on how and what tests have been done to prove it.
Also, while i get that dropping a helmet is bad, seems like its been exaggerated here. A shell and foam thats designed to take the sort of impacts we are talking about should see absolutely nothing from a free fall of 3ish feet. Not suggesting people be careless, but shouldnt also panic thinking their expensive helmet maybe completely useless because of a small fall.
I have never given feedback to articles before, but since you guys are so good, it felt useful to reach out and share thoughts.
    Keep rocking!

After a certain price point, the money you pay for a helmet is more inclined towards comfort than safety. The more you pay for a helmet, the more comfort you get with reduced weight and improved ventillation. The most stupid idea is to believe that you are indestructible if you are fully geared.

Loaded with knowledge 👍 I wear an entry level helmet ( MT Thunder ) and my friends were like, its so costly 😂 I gave them exact same reasoning, my head is worth a lot more and I will upgrade to a better one.
Also loved the sarcasm by Shumi, had me in splits 😂
I remember reading an old article by him once in which he said, his gears were costlier than the bike he was riding to.office daily ( some 150cc i guess ), probably for long term review. From that point i realized, gears are more.important. will share with every rider i know. Thanks guys 😁

In the next episode, I'd love to hear Rohan talk about Cars and all the things related to it. My god, that would be awesome. And the funniest thing I've heard about Helmets in this episode is the one at the end, where Shumi was talking about the Helmet that was kept on the ground would mean that the Rider was dead. My friends told me the same thing when we went on a ride way back in early 2019.
