The Mai Kai was opened in 1956, and took in a million dollars its first year. It is located in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. They have a bar, restaurant and floor show. I have been going since I was a kid in the mid-70's.
Thanks, we'll add that to our growing list of places we need to include. Although, in your opinion, is the Mai Kai a Tiki bar? We're trying to find a line - there were some other places suggested that were older but they were, for the most part, steak houses. Old steak houses with Polynesian themes...but steak houses nonetheless. The "bars" were secondary and an afterthought. Do they still count? How much of a bar should it be to be included?
@@Bucketlistbars They have a bar, in the building. I don't think you can separate tiki into strictly a bar. Trader vics, was also a restaurant as was Don the beachcomber.
Bali Hai in San Diego. Opened in 1953 as Christian's Hut and rebranded in 1954. The Christian's hut roots and heritage (easy to research) make it maybe one of the most legit Tiki Bars in history, even though the food service has blossomed into such a huge portion of the establishment over time and it is not strictly a bar, nor strictly serving bar food.
Bucket List Bars I’m honestly okay with that if you’re considering the current Damon’s, but traditionally the Damon’s of old should have been on there.
Bill Zanetti, agreed, and there’s a few that should have been on there, we hope to make another pilgrimage soon and we’ll make an updated video (God knows how many have survived this shut down though).

Bahi Hut in Sarasota, Florida opened in 1953
Chris Snyder cool thanks we’ll def check it out!
@@Bucketlistbars no worries. My pleasure!
I love Bahi Hut 🛖👍👍👍👍👍🍍🗿🌴🤙🏽🍹
I really miss Trader Vics, and the Kon Tiki in Portland.
The Hale Kahiki in Chicago was opened in 1952.
Thanks to Don the Beachcomber for tiki!
You really need to travel around the whole country...
Thanks for the input, which ones did we leave out that are older?
Damon’s steakhouse in Glendale open since 1937
Um, Trad'r Sam in San Francisco???
Kevin Crossman good call, sorry we missed that one. We’ll swing by and then edit the video after the visit.
I guess you never edited the video uh. Csuse tad'r sam IS the oldest in the world. It opened in 1937....i mean at least put efforts into it
Cool video you forgot Bahi Hut Tiki Cocktail Lounge 1954 👍😎
Thank you for the tip!! We also need to hit Trade Winds Lounge in Saint Augustine. We can't believe how many we missed!
@@Bucketlistbars great video 👍👍👍👍 loved it. There’s so many great bars it’s hard to find them all. Especially with all the tiki people saving stuff.

Is that the hotel?
cool!
You missed Bikini Lounge in Phoenix - 1947.
Never heard of it, thanks so much! We'll check it out and update the video when we do!
You guys left out a lot, but the most problematic miss is Damon’s of Glendale.
We'll agree to disagree about Damon's.

Not really. There are several Tikibars that are older that still are open. Do your research before you post.
