Nina Mazursky's death hurt. I liked all of the characters. But seeing her die was hard, especially after seeing her childhood. She just wasnt a killer, nor was she a monster.
a less hesitant 9/10 for me. loved it so much more than i thought i was going to, but i really shouldn't doubt Gunn at this point. reminded me a lot of Legend of Vox Machina, both in animation and tone (helps that they've got a few cast members in common)! loved showcasing these "monsters", and showing how it's really been outside forces that either turned them into or insist on seeing them as monstrous. Nina is the most tragic to me because she literally did nothing wrong, wasn't even charged with anything (aside from maybe trespassing in municipal waters?), but wound up incarcerated with violent offenders. like, even Weasel was at least believed to have committed a crime and was tried and sentenced (wrongfully and tragically so, but i'm also a little pissed at him for getting Nina killed at the moment...). Nina seems like she just got abducted by animal control as her loving father got murdered by a dumbass cop with an itchy trigger finger (see also Weasel's episode), then gets transferred into this maximum security black site prison because she looks different? after a childhood of living with a disability and being abandoned by her mother, then an adolescence of constant bullying and ostracizing? then her first real friend (who refused to admit they were friends until after she died) convinces her to become the violent monster she's been seen as and it leads to her getting murdered...ugh, my heart SHATTERS! GI Robot's was probably my other favorite episode, so it was nice to see him return at the end (and thank you for not having him ask where "friend Nina" is, cuz i don't think i could've taken it!). also, curious to see if Circe is on the team next season. a witch would fit in quite nicely, and i'd like to see her held to some account for her dumbass plan of "lead invasion of incel army to prevent WWIII". like, good on you for wanting to stop Armageddon, but doing your recruiting on 4chan doesn't help make your case or offer much tactical strength. i guess she maybe saw them as expendable? two birds/one stone kind of situation? love to have a confrontation scene between her and the Bride (who i've only really known as a side character in Frankenstein's Seven Soldiers book, but now i freaking adore her!)...
3:30 Not trying to be a troll or an ass, but there is something I have to say. This is in no way meant to sound cold towards the tragic event going on in L.A. People have lost their lives and their homes.....BUT it's telling when people in L.A lose their homes, many are quick to offer their best wishes and sympathies. But when 18,000 children are slaughtered, families wiped out, mass starvation, medical operations done without anesthetic, ethnic cleansing AND also lose their homes, not one shred of sympathy or concern is offered by any of you. It's YOUR government that is funding it. It's telling when you offer to help those affected by the fires, but sit in complicit silence as that same government funds a Gnc0de that has resulted in the death of 44,000 people with many under the rubble of bombed out houses, hospitals, schools, universities, churches and mosques. If what's happening in L.A is terrifying, what is happening in Gaza is 100,000 times worse. I guess Palestinian life doesn't have the same value as Americans.
Three takeaways from watching Creature Commandos: 1. James Gunn should not have a hand in the writing of EVERY DC property going forward. His "edgy" writing style is coming off as dated, and at this point in time, the superhero genre has enough "edgy" movies and shows that do it BETTER that his style just doesn't stand out anymore. If Captain America: Civil War felt like Avengers 2.5,, this show felt like The Suicide Squad 0.5 (The Suicide Squad was better, not by much). 2. PLEASE get voice actors for these animated shows. Nothing against the actors voicing these characters, but some of them sounded like they were leaving sexy or stern voicemails when they were voicing these characters. What If...? suffered through the same thing. 3. This may be out of line, but I don't care. As a parent, it needs to be said: why would someone who got fired for nasty pedophile jokes/parties write so many children-centric episodes? Like dude, those optics are not good. It's like if Harvey Weinstein got out of jail and produced a movie about sexual harrassment. I understand he wasn't formerly charged, I don't care. It's still gross as hell and any person that jokes about harming children for such a long period of time try to pull a 180 (only because he got singled out) is not good person. 5/10 for the beginning of the DCU. If Superman doesn't make a billion dollars, expect David Zaslav to replace Gunn in
