    It's already been said.....I'll say it again....John's playing is totally original....endlessly inventive, never a dull moment...
    One of the great 'Miles Davis' guitarists who has continued to challenge and move the goal posts above and beyond...
    Great to have a signature tone like no other.....and be able to construct lines with space and busy-ness as taste dictates...
    Very few, if any musicians can hold an audience' attention for a long set of jazz.....

    'Bout everything Scofield does is amazing. Immediately identifiable, totally original. From the beginning; check out his early stuff. It's eye opening.

    Came here expecting Gary Granger, but Gary W was here instead. Willis' playing never disappoints....especially his 80s Tribal Tech era. Still my favorite fretless player to this day, if I had to pick one.

    It is ironic that a channel called the MUSICIAN INSTITUTE does not give a proper appreciation to the MUSICIANS who play in the videos they show. How could they not mention the names of the other musicians who were playing in this (and their other) videos. What a shame.

    • @rillloudmother

      Agreed, and they should also include the date.

      Clearly the videos are an after thought because these things were meant to be attended live...Chill out and be glad that this invaluable video is made available for free. Geesh.

    Drummer doesnt seem to be "listening" too much. Just waiting to drop another extended hemiola... bop-centric so that's cool, but man it's over-the-top.

    Waltz reminds me of Time and Tide from Time on my hands,signature ballads by Sco

    • @tomarikawa
      @tomarikawa 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's published in "Works For Me" Album with Kenny Garrett, Brad Mehldau, Christian McBride, Billy Higgins and called "Mrs. Scofield's Waltz". Cheers Robert for giving me a little "push" by mentioning Time And Tide. It started to tick in me, what is this tune. I ended up listen Sco's Post-Funk Era recordings the whole day. I love these many musical worlds of Sco.

      +Francisco Espinoza - what do you mean. the guys a great fusion drummer. so was dennis chambers that sco used lots right before this period. more interesting than the same old bop drummers all the time. guess you dont like fusion. sco does

    • @Bratschenator
      @Bratschenator 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +progjazzfusion What do I mean? Well, if you have to ask.......

    • @RocknJazzer
      @RocknJazzer 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just tell me, I really dont understand, except that you dont like fusion drumming, you only like bop drumming? I like both styles. I play drums and mix the two styles myself. Playing only one way or the other all the time gets old.

    • @Bratschenator
      @Bratschenator 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +progjazzfusion There's only one way to play man, in the pocket, listening and reacting. You wouldn't know bebop if it came and bit you in the ass. Way to disrespect a century old swingin' tradition with your sorry comments. What are you? 10?
      The only thing that "gets old" is non-swinging morons with a computer who never got it, and still think they can spew their sorry opinions online. Average Dork !

    • @RocknJazzer
      @RocknJazzer 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Francisco Espinoza No there is no one way to play...you must be a jazz nazi like wynton where only ancient bebop is valid. Good playing is good playing no matter what the style, even ones you dont like, like this guys excellent fusion style, one of the best I have heard. If you dont like fusion thats fine, but from your harsh comments seems you dont know much about drumming or jazz of any style much beyond casual fan at best, so not qualified to judge.
