    I stumbled on this channel 2-3 months ago and I can genuinely say the kind of content you guys put out has been immensely impactful for me. In terms of understanding the fundamentals of merging business and design, and well as personal development, I very much agree that while the ideas that emerge from the relationship between Chris and Jose appear to be conflicting, they find a way to use their different perspectives to arrive at a positive conclusion that benefits the educational narrative of the video.
    I just turned 20 and I'm starting to officially present myself professionally as a freelancer to the public, and you guys really are making a difference in giving people the power to unlock their potential. Thank you for being so open and transparent with your audience.

    This is the first video where I saw Jose so calm or trying to appear not bored by Chris’s long sentences and so deeply expressing and in himself. And Chris always asking questions from comments whenever he digs deep in feelings, making a hole in Chris’s protective wall, not wanting to be vulnerable. aha? Beautiful!
    Here is a thing, Chris is not losing his soul while working, when you are awake you do every bit, part of your life
    with awareness and completely surrendered in it, you put the whole of yourself. And here is what he is doing, learning, taking all in, transforming it and sharing it out to us. And people who resonate on this journey stumble over here. The fruition of all the meditation, the spirituality you are learning comes into play only when we practice it, else its all just gathering of wisdom and what are we supposed to do with it, just another form, yeah?
    “Let’s be who we are, we don’t need to go all same” true. We only need to become true of ourselves. Acceptance is the key :) and we all need to evolve not change. Like we are evolving with every content posted on this channel. :) :)

    I honestly love Chris but this is the best Chris do video I have seen so far. What I feel and what I have experienced with myself as well, is that it's the fears that control us. We are afraid all the time, some of failure, some fear being left alone or laughed at. What we fail to realise is that it's okay.

    I love both Chris and Jose...! I was brought into the field by Jose though..his energy, his humor, and the way he approaches creativity. I go back to before the Skool on TH-cam and I continue to support the growth. I loved it when Chris came on because he resonates with my Capricorn upbringing (My Father) I need both energies and I think Jose knew what he was doing when he brought Chris in. It was what was needed. I think the Skool is stronger now. You may not relate with Chris but Chris, is a part of the formula. We need both or I need both men and the insights and experiences they provide to help me be better. Relatablility...? It's important but not everything. If you listen, really listen to these two men, they are very transparent which is hard to do. If it were easy we would all be doing what these men are doing. We are all growing and sharing lets just be thankful that we have this platform to learn from.

    I discovered this channel a month ago and I'm trying to watch all the vids. You guys are giving away an amazing amount of valuable info. Thanks very much.
    What drew me the most was the two opposite personalities and the different insight you both give on the same subjects. The video I watched previous to this one had a lot of negative comments directed at Jose and I actually became angry. So many people were totally unappreciative of Jose's intuitive, seat of the pants style, and saw no value in him at all. I'm glad I watched this one next.
    I think many people don't realize there are analytical and intuitive personalities, and we need both. If someone doesn't relate to one of you I'm not sure why they feel compelled to say extremely rude things on TH-cam.
    Glad you're back, Jose. Heed no haters and do your thing...

    I think its about vulnerability. What Chris said about having only a select group of people in his inner circle is understandable.
    Though that's where boundaries should be set instead of walls. boundaries can be crossed while walls are often avoided.
    Vulnerability is about feeling the fear of people's worst and selfish selves and being willing to share anyway.
    Boundaries aren't known unless they are crossed, and you have to let people know that if they respect you, and your relationship they wont cross them because you matter.
    You will find more often than not that people not only respect the boundaries, but respect and love you more for setting them. By laying down boundaries instead of putting up walls, you will be more open to new things, and people won't try to come at you like you're fort knox.
    It's difficult because this is business and Blinds brand is attached to the show, which is why Chris can't let loose more, but there are moments, when Jose and Chris used to be on film and when chris interviews were he would forget that he was being recorded and act as though they were just hanging out.
    In those small moments, i even forget that i'm watching a video. My point is that you both have unique aspects of handling things, and just like in yin and yang the circles show that there is a mixture of both for each side (light in darkness and darkness in the light).
    It's just as equally gratifying to see the analytical, serious, and business sides of jose, as it is to see chris when he is somewhat playful, and having a good time.
    The difference between the "stickiness" as it were is the attachment: meaning that when i see Jose years later after the old videos, i can see the years of change that have happened and appreciate and imagine what it took for him to arrive here, but with Chris though i know that you've done a heck of a lot of self work and being willing and open to suggestions behind the scenes etc, that veneer that you present on film has remained the same throughout the years even though you've personally (out)grown.
    Have you ever followed a youtube channel vlogger and you feel like you know the person? Its because through each video that you watched, you got little insights into their personality and things that you didn't know about them that helped you build rapport. If everytime you watched someone they were playing back the same tape, there would be nothing new to learn, the show would then be able playing that persona/projection onto others. (the straight man and the wise guy comedy trope)
    In the 48 Laws of power there's a law #46 that says "never appear too perfect'
    "Appearing better than others is always dangerous, but most dangerous
    of all is to appear to have no faults or weaknesses. Envy creates silent
    enemies. It is smart to occasionally display defects, and admit to
    harmless vices, in order to deflect envy and appear more human and
    approachable. Only gods and the dead can seem perfect with impunity."
    Sharing weaknesses and down moments are really for me to empathize with what you felt during that time, and shapes how i see you from then on.
    So by not letting people inside even just a little bit, the person who is willing to bear it all (jose) will be well beloved and missed when he is absent. I'm also an INTJ, but ive been to those dark places jose talks about, and came out a different person.
    The point is: It's okay to have a private life, be metered with what you share, but do share some. Maybe having more than one person with you on videos could help balance out the dynamics and give you the space to play Chris do instead of having your Owner/Producer/xyz hats on.
    However, If we are talking about something like this (nitpicking) it must mean that you guys are doing an amazing job, because people usually do that when there is nothing else to criticize.
    I have deep respect for you both and hope to see more vids soon :)

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      very thoughtful feedback. i appreciate you taking the time to share. i am not the most relatable person. i know this. i'm okay with this. part of my power comes from knowing and accepting who i am. it's not that i don't have vulnerabilities. i do. many in fact. but like the good Capricorn that I am, I'm a "constant improver". I strive for continued self improvement. This backed by clarity & focus, work ethic, courage to overcome my fears, makes me seem like the Terminator. I'm on a perpetual cycle of self improvement, building knowledge, gaining experience.
      You may not have noticed, but the change is very evident. Watch the first 3 episodes we ever recorded. Look how tense I was on camera. Notice how, over time, I receded from the background. I started to introduce shows. It wasn't until the Identity Design episode that I actually wrote content for the show (which I think was almost 6 months in).
      Jose and I carefully played "roles" on camera. He was the carefree, free-spirited spiritual warrior who was sometimes spiritual, would ramble on but be lovable. He played the role of the artist hippie. On the other hand, I played the logical, driven, buttoned up design/business monk. I was very binary. But keep in mind these were "characters" that we chose to play.
      After a while, I got tired and I'm sure Jose did as well of playing these roles because they were just facets of our true selves. My students, staff and family know the true me. People who attend my lectures will often say, "You are funnier and warmer in person". This screen, after all is a 2 dimensional representation of who I am.
      It's a good quote.

    The abstract can become surrealism. Outside looking inward, inward looking outward. Great to see Jose back on The Process! Not finished watching but I had to pause at the bit @17:29 where Jose talks about showing up projecting the person you think you're supposed to be for someone, vs yourself and how people will pick up on your discomfort. It's fascinating because it's something I have certainly seen happening in networking or interviews, if you present yourself as your are comfortable people always walk away feeling they connected with you better. On the other hand there's this whole school of thought about "fake it to you make it" which I think can also be valuable to some people who need move forward or who suffer from self doubt.. I think the takeaway is how important it is to foster that confidence in being yourself and whatever skills your always working on so you can recognize what you have to offer, until you don't feel you have to project, pretend or otherwise "fake it".

    You both spoke to some of my own struggles. I am 20+ years ahead of you in my work life and I find myself contemplating what my future life might mean with less or even no work. Even typing those words shakes me to the core. Jose, you speak so much truth about meditation and the interior experience. I am clearing hours in my "productive" work week for reading and meditation. Perhaps in time, I will see that as productive, right now, it feels like an indulgence that I am not sure I deserve. When I work, I know that I am helping people, that is where I have found meaning in my life. I also know that I have neglected other facets of experience. Many thanks to both of you for sharing so honestly.

    Special video. I think what Jose may not realize yet (or when this video was filmed) is that while there's only one path towards enlightenment, it takes an infinite amount of forms (as far as human perception is concerned) so Chris actually IS walking a very spiritual path and honestly appears a bit more in his personal power than Jose, in my opinion. It's clear Chris is someone who's very conscious of his image and reputation, but that's because he has great respect for his gifts and what he was put here to do. In order to do it efficiently, he needs to take control of the things that his gifts afford him control over. Control isn't inherently bad or good in and of itself. Nothing is, except imbalance in the context of whats needed for a given effect/outcome. If his sense of control prevented him from being receptive to new information, and therefore stunted his personal and professional growth, that would mean he had an imbalanced amount of control and would need to assess what the right level would be moving forward -- not just give up control all-together!
    Jose appears to be on a journey of self-love and acceptance. I think he was conditioned to see power as bad or wrong (subconsciously) and so he perceives Chris standing in his power as partly an ego thing and has difficulty standing fully in his own power. Something at some point in his childhood made him believe it was wrong to think of himself as special or great, and worthy of love & abundance. Practicing authenticity is one of the most empowering ways to free ourselves from that prison and of feelings of shame and guilt; I identify with him here.
    It's also possible that everything I wrote is just me projecting myself onto these guys!! LMAO. In any case, this was another top notch video. Thank you!

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you'd be surprised. To be interesting, you must be interested in other people. i can relate by listening, empathizing, and then sharing my own experiences, when appropriate. i do so in story form vs. prescriptive, you must do this.
      conversely, if you share your experiences without context for the other person, they'll be sitting there, scratching their head. like, why are you telling me this? how does this relate to me.
      tony robbins talks about this in "building rapport". we like people who are like us, or people who we'd like to be more like.

    There's a fine line between getting fulfillment from making others happy and being a pushover/people pleaser.
    I would say that as long as you're not sacrificing your own happiness for someone else and having the assertiveness to speak up when you're being wronged is essential.

    What's interesting is that a lot of Jose talks about early on falls under social identity. I think the argument can be made that you can have a different identity and value sets in different environments, but they are merely aspects of a greater whole. I think the reason why it is so hard for people to know themselves is that people find it difficult to reconcile all these differing identities without seeing conflict. There is can be this inherent belief you can't be multiple different things and you have to almost live and die by the labels you or others give to you.

    I agree with what some of Jose is saying, but wholly it's subjective. To Chris's defense, with the Example of the hugging: for him to conclude that Chris has a limited intimate experience or that his ability to choose how intimate he wants to be with others as a lack of that thing that he's choosing to share(intimacy) is almost the definition of subjectivity. Why is it that he's lacking in something that others give more or less of? The whole point of freedom is that we can choose whatever we want our lives to be. Chris, I don't think You lack anything, I just think you, unlike most people, have known AND know faster what you want in life than other people, without the need of trial and error. I share this trait as well. I don't need to experience everything to know if I like it or not. I just know I do. I love Porsche's and I have yet to buy one (yet) and I think for someone to look at me and say, well you don't know what car you really like because you haven't driven every car, or the other cars yet, is truly subjective and limiting not just on the other person but on the observers perspective and and responsibility to communicate, and this, actually results in being more un-relatable, because we're not taking the person's word/testimony/story for who they are in that moment. If you change your mind 100 times in 50 years, it's not that the first 10 years is a lie in comparison to the end of the journey, it's that the end of the journey needs those first tens years and is a culmination of those experiencing. Not a constant process of validating/invalidating. - To conclude Chris, I honestly think you're just as connected to yourself as Jose. I don't find error or lack(lack is VERY subjective). I don't know you both, but I think Jose might have been a little to existential in this moment. - Would love to come on the show and chat about this!

    I relate to Chris a lot. I think he's more strategic than I am but I can relate to that. I'm the kind of person who takes in information and once I understand it I act on it. No bs no excuses I just put things in place and do. I've honestly never related to Jose. I like him but he's way more into spiritual beliefs than myself. That's good for him but I can't do that it makes me feel like struggles make me a victim. I don't think any excuses should be allowed in life.

    Chris! This episode surprised me totally. In my professional life I have never met anyone that I could relate to more than to you. I find my-very-own-self in the way you think act (knowledge stampede and burning head) or express thoughts - even the way you've provided feedback for a designer. Obviously you have incredibly wider business knowledge which I'm stealing from you right now (expect #10% soon) but you are totally relatable! Mentor-soulmate kind of situation. i need a jose in my life. and a genuine one.
    and i haven't found one yet. i thought i had, but turns out it's not what i think it is.
    so i removed this person out of my circle, and not looking back at it again.
    like chris, i'm an intj.
    and this is spot on, i've always had problems with maintaining long term bonds or personal connections. i tend to be very selective with people as well and easily detach from them and move on by myself. everything to me feels like a chessboard where i should act cautiously and plan my moves two steps ahead.
    and people get intimidated by my remarks sometimes because tho i speak truth/reason to them, it would come off as too abrasive for their taste.
    anyway, i look forward to more vids with chris & jose in it!

      The Futur I know your probably gonna feel a little naked when you finish reading this. But I saw a whole lot of little Chris in the discussion and it made me smile. You were super cute,lol, and very childlike with your expressions.
      The funny thing is, I'm an abstract thinker and hippie like Josè but also possess the no nonsense straightforward business side like you, Chris. I'm also very open like Josè with my heart on my sleeve and analyse people as I get to know them and if they overstep their mark without warning I set the walls up like Chris. One because I know they're operating from a place of adapted adolescence so I have compassion for their humanity. Two, because I must protect my own energy as a person like Chris who is called to serve and take care of people around them.
      The heart and mind exist for a reason and as long as one is balanced between the two by acknowledging the core aka child and the adapted survival techniques that serve the child for highest good. One needn't go without the other.

    I've watched this video from the first second to the last at least five times now and in short, I find it... Illuminating.
    As of now, I've watched almost all your videos at least once and listened to all your podcast episodes. I find both Chris and Jose extremely relatable. I think that's what grabbed me from the get-go about this channel...is that there is no pretention of knowing much more than others, though you have every reason to be, given your accomplishments. It's surprisingly common to find people talking "at" you (the audience, us) rather than to you about how to go about doing something, and here, on this channel, I come to find inspiration and a "path to my center", so to speak.
    Until this video, I honestly didn't see Chris as a hard taskmaster, and I still don't believe that. In my opinion, he's often interpreting a situation from so many different angles (thankfully, out loud for us to learn from it too) that he can sound "clinical" but isn't that just the method to his chaos aka creativity? Sometimes when I'm listening to Chris on the podcast, I start wondering how he's able to show his vulnerable side so freely,... it's inspirational and very likable. And so, I'm not sure I follow how he can appear to his audience as being distant.
    Complementing and supplementing that is Jose's dynamic energy that seems to have a clarity and an assertive opinion which makes one feel confident that if there was a direction to take, it would be Jose's. It's beautiful really. They both have different styles of *dancing*. :)
    It's always fun to imagine our personalities are not our own manifestation but a product of something controlled by forces unseen. So I'm not one for picking personality types or zodiac signs. But, I loved watching Jose and Chris just chat with each other as close friends and business partners...Something I'm sure we would like to see more.
    As always, thank you for being you. Hearts!

      I wanna add that i think for some people its hard to connect to there inner child because they have been bullied when they where a child. In my case thats the truth. So when i think about when i was a child i feel alot of fear and confusion. Those are not really feelings you wanna connect to. So its importent to connect to the positive ones but thats really hard. I also wanna point out I don't think childeren are alway's pure and honest. Sometimes they are but childeren are really focused on what other kids got. Like the cool new toy or the awesome dad and then compare it to themselfs. When we grow up we can learn go above those thoughts and not worry if someone els has as a better life then you. You just focuse on your own life.

      Otto Toto hi Otto. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I can listen, process what is being said without agreeing. I'm happy to give Jose space to speak his mind, share his experiences and even share his opinion. Notice I use the word opinion. That was a very touching conversation. Thanks for sharing! Usually only close friends share those moments with me, not someone in the internet.
    I find it really interesting how different the perception of people is. Under the portfolio video are a lot of commts that say things like "the right guy (chris) is so dominant, he is so pushy, I would have liked listened to the other guy (jose) more" - and I could really not understand why they perceive it that way. For me it was the other way round: The portfolio video was the first video I have seen of your channel, and not knowing you both I thought: "Well I love what the focused guy says, why does the other one always have to interupt and get away from the focus??? He should meditate to learn focus" haha...

    damn Chris i relate to you so much !! but I also relate to jose being a crazy boricua when I am with people that I have known for some time. I think what can help people relate to Chris is just revealing small details about you life or about random thing you think about , it's a way that other people can use to visualize you outside your work space get inside you head. That way they don't only see the chris do the business man, the entrepreneur they get glipse of Chris Do as a person. One example was when you where in the interview with Roberto Blake and you said "nerds unite" or something. That small part made me relate to you more as a fellow nerd.

Any relationship - even with oneself - is sort of like a design project - balance is key. You need inner balance to fine tune with the outer balance. Let me clarify - uncomfortable, because it makes me aware of my own communication methods in my relationships (which made this feel personal to me, not strictly professional.) I just started watching your videos and I am a fan! I believe its all about the individual. I myself relate better with Chris. I like to the point succinct information which Chris does exceptionally well. I don't think he has to do anything to be more relatable. Be you and your viewers will be similar, as with the viewer that made the comment, he relates better with Jose, that's great. It's all about that individuals goals. Because I am more of an executive producer for the creative agency I run I am more drawn to the business video's(ie..interviews with other entrepreneurs, motivation, branding etc..) on the Futur. I don't care to much about Typography or How to price design services etc..
    My opinion is you have two audiences. New designers interested in starting their own agency and creative entrepreneurs that have some experience that want to connect with content that is entrepreneurial but with a niche focus on creative businesses. I am the latter. Hope this feedback helps and please keep providing content that targets me, because there isn't a channel currently doing what you guys do that I know of.

    I love how real all these conversations are. Responding to what Jose asked about what the community would like to see from him on The Futur, I would like to hear his thoughts on putting introspection into practice professionally. I would like to learn more about how personal hangups translate into problematic client interactions, team conflict, crappy design, branding errors etc. And, vice versa, what problematic client interactions, conflict, etc. may say about our personal hangups.
    On another note, this show helped me realize I have a habit of making certain people and certain projects "special." I realized that I fetishized you two and people like (not in a creepy way lol), in the sense that I find myself putting people like you, Tim Ferris, Marie Forleo, Lewis Howes, etc. on a pedestal. Instead of seeing you as people who simply worked hard, were smart and kind to people to get to where you are, I thought there was something "special" about people like you. Thank you for all these videos where you're so open and honest because it helps me see that you're both human and on a journey like the rest of us. And, you don't act like your journeys are better than anyone else's.
    I've also fetishized certain projects and dream clients too. Because I have them so hyped up in my head, sometimes it takes a lot to calm my energy down and simply do the work of communicating what I offer and how. If what I mentioned about fetishization makes sense to you, that is a topic I'd like to see discussed; something like where the fetishization comes from, how to recognize when you're hyping something up, why it's unwise and how to resolve it.

      that was one of the questions that we got from the Motion Conference in Santa Fe. An audience members asked, "How could we make ourselves more relatable to the audience? In that we were up on a stage and they were sitting there listening to us." The panel had some great responses. Karin Fong said, keep in mind that what you see is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many projects which we don't share with anyone. So don't make the mistake that what you see is everything that we do.
      My response, was to Kill your Idols. Not literally of course, but destroy them. If you want to be treated like a fan, act like one. When I meet famous people, people with power, I just tell myself, it's just another person. Doing so, helps to center me and I don't act like some kind of weirdo.

    This was the most powerful and interesting youtube video I've ever watched.
    I've followed thefutur & skool for some time now and seen you guys collaborate on videos together. I've also noticed less and less of Jose in the videos, which I miss, because I'm more like Jose but got people like Chris in closer friendships. It’s been highly valuable for me to observe how you guys work together and to understand your very different perspectives. To me Jose is Jose and Chris is Chris, but together you become something more. The exploration of your relationship turns you into even more powerful creators and I think this is the heart & soul of the videos you create. You are recognising that to make something really powerful you need to combine art (Jose) and technology (Chris). You know, the secret sauce is neither of you. But the combination.
    You two have always been behind the same side of the table - now you're sitting on opposite ends. I don’t know what happened or if something happened between you guys.
    But if something happened, I sincerely hope you guys can work things out because you seem to make a pretty great team (and I want more Chris & Jose videos ;) ).
    I really appreciate the level of transparency you guys provided in this video. powerful.
    Best regards,
    Jon

      No argument from me about the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. But as a said in the video, writing and producing content for the channel is a form of self expression for me. It's important for me to have a vehicle in which to have direct dialogue with an audience and TH-cam is my canvas. Jose and I will produce content together when it makes sense, but it stopped being fun for me. You can see that we have very different world views, energy, focus, commitment and (most importantly) vision.
      You don't have to choose Coke or Pepsi. You can have both, but not always at the same time. Hope that makes sense.

    • @jonathanfristedt8860
      @jonathanfristedt8860 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If am still awake at that time, I will tune in! (Based in London)
      I understand and respect that, I've learned that too, how important it is to keep your energy and interest in check when doing creative work/things that you care about.
      So a question I'd think to be interesting: How you could flip on these differences and turn them into a topic you both would be excited to explore?
      I think what many designers are experiencing is that there's a huge need for understanding how to collaborate effectively & efficiently in interdisciplinary work environments (Research, Business, Tech, Client etc) - My guess here is that your dynamics have resonated with a lot of people because of this.
      Best,
      Jon

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have divergent thoughts on our dynamic. From people who say they love and miss Jose (which is natural), vs. I can't focus when Jose is on the show. So, there's no way we can make everyone happy. So if it's a coin flip, I'm going to choose my own happiness.

    Real talk: I was afraid to watch this video at first. I’m glad I did. Talk about living up to the title of the series “The Process.” This was some challenging yet awesome talk on this episode.
    My personality is in-between you and Jose’s these days. My core is very “squishy”, but life circumstances had me leaning more toward my Virgo Sun/Capricorn Rising pragmatism. Frankly, getting into graphic design has given me a logical framework to re-accessing my “squishy” core and my creativity, which was always there.
    For me, who’s still severely “conflict averse,” it’s been a process of learning to accept all of my parts, unconditionally, and to stand in my own integrity. I’m a lot better than I used to be.
    tl;dr: personal growth is a “mother,” ain’t it?

    Jose has so much to offer though. I believe some of the most powerful ideas come from our intuition.
    Just a thought - because Chris is able to turn Jose's (or others') abstract concepts into actionable items, he gets most of the credit/success.

    Guys, I really really really love the conversation. I look up to you two and you complement eachother extremely well. I think another take away in all types of relationships is to look out for those people in your life who complement you. A good indicator if they complement you is if they piss you off. :P You find that person, they are your greatest teacher about yourself and also a great business partner. (potentially)
    I would really like to see more videos like this with you two talking about the abstract ideas of energy, being one with yourself, one with your community etc. and how you both would apply it realistically to the generation we are in now. I feel like this transition we're going through is more connected through the internet yet making us less connected as human beings which for me leaves me confused on how I can connect and approach agencies or studios for work.

    I learn so much from your channel on a personal level outside of business and design, and in that sense this specific video is the best so far.
    Jose won me over, on other video I had a hard time relating with Jose but no longer, and seeing Chris is struggling with similar things to me is very... Mm.. Helpful? At least heart warming - you do mention things here and there but now you opened up much more and it was actually helpful, so thank you both very much.
    As a request (gotta get selfish here ;)) it would be awesome if you could talk at some point on how did you (Chris) learn to say no, or more to the point where I think the actual problem for me is - how to say no and remain nice and likeable, say no and still keep the other person "happy"...
    Thanks for everything.

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adam, it's really hard to say No. I still struggle with this. I'm fighting internally the need to help or appease others with my own priorities and goals. When I recognize this, I slow down and think about why I'm motivated to help or say "yes'. If it's anything other than, it's what I want to do, I kindly decline.
      If someone asks for something I'm not comfortable with, I will respond by saying, "I'd like to help you out, but I'm uncomfortable with your request." Then, I tell them why. Sometimes, I will say, "I'm a private person." or "I'd like to get to now you better before committing to something like that." or "I have others to take into consideration and I need to think about the impact that my decision will have on them."
      My therapist told me that I'm a "Caretaker", being the middle child and all. The desire to please others used to be more important than getting my own stuff done. Less so these days.
      Lastly, You can choose to be: popular, liked, right or you can get the job done. These days, I want to get the job done. Too many people are counting on me (my family, staff and company). That helps when I think about the trust they've placed in me and the responsibility that carries. So I'd rather please the people who are loyal and support me over those that don't necessarily.

      Thank you, helpful advice, I'm sure by adding the "why" I say no and being honest about it will be a way to make it both easier for me and also easier on the other side to see my point and not resent me.
      Middle child as well (high five) and from what I hear and read I'm exactly like you, minus the money and success ;) but with your help this is improving as well :)

    José dialed down and really focused on the message; which I haven't seen in other videos, great. Around 36:35 correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Chris Do's talking about leaving a legacy behind. That ties into José's statement in regards to work, work, work ... 'gaining the world and losing your soul' (Mk 8:36/Mt 16:26). I don't think it's enough for creatives/designers to simply make ... but to also impart, co-collaborate and ultimately contribute. Good stuff.
    Also, as individuals you're both relatable, it all goes back to listening. I think what's crucial and what has attracted me is the topic of discussion and the authenticity both of you bring. Thanks for what you're doing!

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ray E. Datugan hi Ray. Thanks for sharing. I don't think I'm trying to gain the world. If I were I'm on the wrong platform and wasting my time. Who do you think has been behind producing all of these shows?

    • @raye.datugan4501
      @raye.datugan4501 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Futur ... Let me clarify, I hear both of your POV's. I don't believe that you are focused on gaining the world but that your focus has been on giving back, to share your experiences and what you have learned ... to leave a legacy. Hence the videos which do take tremendous amounts of time and work. It's been mentioned before, that the most valuable commodity we have is our time. That's something we cannot get back at whatever stage of the game. The spiritual side of Josè is simply stating that when we are in the throws of work our relationships can be diminished.

    • @thefutur
