It took over 10 years and 30 movies for Marvel to finally get sloppy. I know this Blade situation is bad, but it really is an incredible feat how efficiently Feige ran things for as long as he did.
Feige wasn’t the sole one in charge. It was him and the now disbanded Marvel creative committee.
Mahershala is gone haha. Never a good sign when a lawyer speaks on it.

Problem is they’re trying to tie it into MCU continuity. Trying to introduce midnight sons, and introduce blades daughter from the comics. All we want is a simple blade vs vampires movie. You can do a post credit scene setting up the MCU connection

They need to pay this man for his time and shelve the project. They can't make it work because they want to make Blade a secondary character in his own movies and water it down to PG-13. This really is ridiculous, because for a franchise that’s had a perfectly smooth production with virtually all of their past movies this is the first time where an MCU project is having trouble getting made, considering how it was in the past this is an astronomical blemish on Marvel’s reputation, now instead of being able to say “Yeah some of the movies they put out may not be the greatest but at least they’ll get made just fine” we now have to be like “Oh shit, they might have a lot of trouble now” Which is totally unheard of for us fans, it really is an embarrassment on their part, I feel like they never should’ve brought out Mahershala Ali right away, they could’ve announced Blade sure but just that it was coming, not who was playing him, because now Marvel has put all of their eggs into 1 basket and if it doesn’t work out and Mahershala Ali exits or even worse the movie gets cancelled that’s gonna damage a huge amount of trust with the fans, and so I really do think it was a mistake announcing Mahershala Ali that early
The problem has to be that the creatives want it to be R rated but all of the executives want it PG-13
I'd say he has every right to be compensated. He must have turned down a bunch of lucrative opportunities because of this Blade movie that never happened. It's very messed up.

The New Mutants was Actually Completed. And then put on the Shelf for all of those years. That's even worse!!!
Nothing at Marvel had this degree of behind the scenes delays, but iirc. Thor The Dark World was originally supposed to be directed by Kenneth Branaugh then he pulled out, I remember seeing Patty Jenkins was a potential director and they ultimately went with Alan Taylor. Also don't forget that Edgar Wright was hired in 2006 to write and direct Ant-Man, and he didn't leave the project until 2014. Doctor Strange 2 was originally going to keep Scott Derrickson before he left the project and they brought in Sam Raimi.
I was sooo excited for him to be Blade but atp, I think he will rightfully walk away.
The last script I heard about sounded like it was more focused on.. Blade's daughter rather than Blade.. is that right? As a fan of the comic - I just want Blade - not an interpretation of Blade -
I think going forward with 50 year old Ali as Blade would be crazy. Turn the page and start over. You need a good script first and foremost, THEN you can think about a director and a Star.
Mahershella is the reason this movie is taking so long and I mean that in the best way possible. He’s a 2x Oscar winning actor, he knows what a great script looks like. He’s not going to settle for some lacklustre, half-baked script. He also understands the expectations of this film. He’s not going to want to do it if it isn’t at the very least on par if not better than the original blade films with Wesley Snipes. To be honest I don’t care how long they take. Marvel will keep it pushing with the rest of the multiverse saga until Mahershella and Feige feel they have not just a good script… but a great script and director they can confidently move forward with.
I actually think this is likely the only other scenario and I would not be surprised if that is true, because other wise I think he would have fought to get out of any contract.
i don't think script is the case here if it was then Ali's lawyer won't be complaining like this. It is a superhero movie with vampire in it. It doesn't need oscar worthy script as long as the story is good it's fine.
@@zzzzzz69 the problem is Marvel announced this movie wayyyyyy to early. One of Marvel's top executive producers recently said in an interview that their new strategy moving forward is to produce far more content than they'll ever actually release. Which is good because it means the only projects that'll make it to screen are ones that the studio feel are deserving of it. But back in in 2019 Bob Chapek wanted Marvel and Lucas film to announce as many projects as possible no matter how far into development they were in. And Blade was clearly no further than the conceptual stage of development and that's being generous. So if Marvel had never announced it back then, we wouldn't have know of it other than through scoops and only the niche corners of the audience pay attention to stuff like that. Which means whenever the film came out, it wouldn't be carrying around all this baggage regarding how long it did or didn't take to release. A good example of this is the Nova project. We've been hearing about this project for YEARS. Since the infinity saga. BUT... Marvel's never officially announced it so we aren't all sitting around waiting for it because there's no official release date or actors, director and writers involved THAT WE KNOW OF.
The age is the same thing I've been saying about Pedro for Reed
Reed has always been an older guy though and due toothed nature of his powers the role wouldn't be all that physical unlike blade who has to physical fight with his fists and swords and do acrobatics snd shit it's the 2 aren't even remotely the same
@xjadit7826 Reed is the same age as the others (Sue and Ben), Pedro is a great actor but 50's at the start of a franchise doesn't give it a lot of longevity
They wanted a middle aged Blade so they could justify replacing him with his daughter after 1 film. I'm guessing Ali pushed back on this.

@@johncampeathat is not true John. It’s widely known that Mahershella has been heavily involved in the development of this project. That’s part of the reason why it’s taken so long to get off the ground. He’s hasn’t been satisfied with the direction, script, etc. And how can you blame him. I know you don’t trust many industry insiders but Jeff Sneider for example recently commented on the recent director departure and said that Yan and Mahershella clashed… which is probably why he’s not directing the project anymore. We all know that when a report says “parted ways” it most likely means the person was fired and that’s what probably happened to Yan and you’d be naive to believe that Mahershella wouldn’t have anything to do with that. You don’t bring on a two-time Oscar winning actor and expect them to have “no say”.

This actually convinced me to go watch the Wesley Snipes Blade movies for the first time. Seriously. Never seen them, nor had much interest, but because this was such development hell, now I am curious enough to watch the trilogy and see what the hype is about.
First 2 movies are great (I personally love the first one more). The third one is a complete mess story wise. It's been years since I saw it but it felt like it was cut to pieces in the editing room. Just awful.

I am afraid that the MCU will never reach the hype of the Infinity Saga. Deadpool vs. Wolverine looks promising but is an outlier. And I am not talking about 'wokeness' (I don't care one way or another) but about build-up, structure, and interesting stories. It could be me because I also have lost interest in other franchises like Star Wars, Star Trek, DCU, and The Witcher.

Blade doesn't have to tie in with the Avengers or any other MCU characters at this point - his world is a darker, hidden world. At this point I feel like Marvel's just trying to starve Ali out of his contract.
