I'm a proud owner of this model...! Still running strong for all my daily tasks (web, mail, word, powerpoint etc). The only reason why I have started thinking of 'upgrading' is the availability of better display quality in newer models. But frankly, that single reason hasn't persuaded me to jump onto a new model till date. I haven't developed this level of attraction to my other apple gadgets...!

I had the Early 2015 MacBook Air from 2016 until 2022. This was a very reliable computer for me until I upgraded in 2022 to the M1 MacBook Pro. Still using my 2015 MacBook Air, and it has significantly slowed down and I ran out of storage years ago. I've transferred most of my files to an external hard drive, but I plan on upgrading this one to a bigger hard drive. I'm hoping it will help with the performance a bit. Mine is still in pristine condition and does what I need it to do. I'll be sad when this no longer gets updates though.

I have a macbook air 11.6" from 2015, i tell you what, with some tiny cooling modifications its a little beast! i soldered a copper coldplate to the back of the cpu cooler with a thermal pad which turns the whole of the laptop into a heatsink, the case was in "not great" condition so i have completely resprayed it, starting with acid etch primer (3 coats) and 2 coats of CANBRUSH pearl white satin paint, it looks beautiful. also fitted a 1tb nvme ssd running mojave i only paid £20 for this macbook, and i freaking LOVE it! i never used to like macs but to be perfectly honest i can now see why people love them, theyre fast, reliable and secure, EVERYTHING windows10 or 11 isn't! it plays all my games perfect at a locked 60fps, and works awsome with my apple magic mouse, ill never part with this now, I have the bug, lol. also btw, a single thunderbolt to hdmi cable connects it directly to my 1080p monitor. they used TN panels in the 2015 macbooks because they have better colour than IPS screens.

@@sourcey6620 I am so nearsighted I gotta have the bigger screen. I tried living with the 11.6" and it's a comfy size but for people with crap vision like me? Oof. But if you have a terminal which it sounds like it (passenger side) it would work well! I don't think you even need an i7 processor for coding. Unless you're running some adobe apps which is understandable. At that point you'd probably want a MacBook pro. Main thing of importance is enough RAM and probably 256gb SSD will more than get the job done. Coding is such a light system process, I could still do it on my '09 Lenovo just fine to this day. My wifi was lagging though 😂 would definitely need a LAN connection. The MacBook air is a fantastic computer though. Love its form factor. I love my 2015 Macbook Air. I've been looking at the M1 and now the M2, but honestly, I'd be depressed getting rid of this one. I love the aluminum chassis and that the bezels are also aluminum and not black glass (or plastic?). It's working perfectly well on Monterrey and frankly, seems just as fast as a M1 I've tried out recently. I changed the battery last year and it lasts me a day. I may wait until Apple (hopefully) brings out a 15 inch Macbook Air next year, which will actually be more or less the same size as this 13inch one.

    • @AlexVassiosOfficial

That’s valid. You must not do a whole lot of intensive work beside web browsing, email, and documents. That 2015 Air is perfect for that. I wouldn’t hold your breath for a 15 inch Air though. I doubt they’ll be doing this any time soon if at all.

I think key travel is a black and white thing for most people, either you want travel, or you don’t. Personally IMO, thinkpads have the best keyboards because they have a lot of travel and really good feel.

    • @AlexVassiosOfficial

Totally agree. But there comes a point where shallow travel causes just too many problems to be a reliable keyboard.

Still have mine since 2015. Full specs i7, 512Gb, 8Mb. Sounds short nowadays but it still works great on daily basis tasks. It has enough power to handle Adobe Suite and Apple iSuite under High Sierra. I never upgraded and will never do. My only concern about this laptop and every other Macbook is OVERHEAT. Mine is carefully maintained, regularly cleaned but the minimum temp is about 72C... My desktop PC does not reach 64C on full load in comparison. The fan noise on the Macbook Air is annoying when the i7 is solicited on Photoshop, Keynote or whatever. Playing Minecraft is possible but temp jumps over 100C so your fingers are warm on keyboard, until they smell like roast chicken. I tried with several thermal compounds and pads but this laptop with i7 CPU remains VERY HOT.

I am still using my air 2015 with 8gb ram now, with Montery. Except for battery that is ready to be changed, I have to say is still working in an amazing way. I am using it for studying and mostly for working and manage my life. I have 40 gb free on 128. All the rest is on different usb storage. I have to say this machine is still surprising me in 2022. I was thinking to buy a new one for separate private from working life and be more efficient, I am just worried about damage this one day so that I cannot use anymore. I would prefer to keep this running easy task and use a new one for more intense tasks. But at the end I think I will wait the new air m1 with a new design so that I can keep this and buy a new one that is really different and don't remind this one. Anyway guys, best 1000 dollars I spent in my life. The quality is still amazing, sounds and keyboard and feeling are still ruling. Ciao from Milano.

And this is all running with 4GB RAM. Running Mojave (but I could upgrade to Big Sur/Monterey as officially still supported).
My $1100 2021 Dell inspiron 13 7300 heats up my legs having 4 tabs open with one word document, and battery drains fast...

Since the mac is too old, it does not make sense to send to the apple store to repair (it probably will cost more than its own value), I chat with local repair shop. They say that it probably due to the CPU (the intel i5 4th gen), which has relative high failure rate (which surprise me as it worked well long time until recently). Well I could still use it in light work load as I am doing right now. But If it will stall if CPU will get high usage, e.g. if video conference is needed. I tried to reset SMC, clean fans, replace thermal paste which does not help much. Before that, when CPU gets high usage, it only makes fan crazy but will not make system stall.

It seems to me that almost every Mac I use overheats when connected to a tv. I would call this “normal” but I wouldn’t use a tv all the time as a monitor. Just make sure the computer is flat and there is nothing blocking the air vents.

And then you can still keep your iPad to do iPad things.
