    Thanks for posting this. I just did the exact same repair to a Dell XPS One 2710 which is the same but does not have the touch screen. The new power supply (looked exactly the same as the one you installed) had 2 fewer connections than the original. One was the PSU fan which makes sense since it's inside the new PSU and I think the other was a small light on the rear below the power cord socket. Page 36 of the owners manual calls it "power-supply indicator cable connector", so not really needed. It was a bit tight getting the back cover on since the new PSU is bigger, but I managed. I also removed the old PSU fan. Still love this old AIO.

      @JamesMcHugh1 Awesome!! Question. Does your aftermarket power supply fan run full blast all the time? Mine started to do so and idk what's causing it perhaps the units experiencing a huge power draw? Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it.

    Fantastic job, well done. I have one of these, the HD fried and I was going to chuck it. I'm definitely going to swap out the drive to an SSD, clean it up a bit and see how it goes. Should be a nice project.

      Awesome! TY. Well let me know how it goes, Repaste the cpu/gpu while it's open as it's super easy to do. Careful of the GPU heatsink fans though as they are super sharp and I cut my finger to the bone... And if you don't fix your you can probably sell it. I've got an aftermarket Power supply in my and it's not holding up well and even the original power supplies for these go for a pretty penny.

      @@RememberThisTech Yep, CPU and thermal paste ordered. The PS seems to be ok, but don't you know as soon as I have it upgraded, the PS will blow. Is it worth upgrading the mSATA, or is it even possible?

    • @RememberThisTech

      @@barrycoveney I haven't had the change to fully test this theory but it might be possible to run a full size graphics card through a m.2 slot. Though running a separate power supply with a big graphics car kind of defeats the purpose of this design lol but would be fun to try. Perhaps you can get better cooling for the onboard GPU and oc it to squeeze a few more fps. Cross fingers that your p.s will be ok.. Let me know what you do.

      @RememberThisTech Worked a treat! Had to play around with the BIOS settings and I think I wiped the RAID, setup a USB stick with RuFus and all that, but it worked. Went with an older release of Win 10, and just updated from there. Many thanks!

    I have a Dell Inspiron 2350 AIO. Baby brother to this. Really like it. I upgraded it to an i5 3550 and 2tb hard drive. The conventional drive felt snappy enough that an SSD was not needed. Soon after my cat had a seizure and knocked it over...touch no longer works but still a great spare PC.

      Hey there! Sorry your touch screen no longer works but hey least overall, it still works!! What graphics does yours have?

    • @larryladeroute971
      @larryladeroute971 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think I need to investigate. It has been awhile. I may actually have a 4th gen CPU in there and confused it with another PC. Want to see if it has the m2 drive...did not notice it before...would explain why my conventional drive seems fast. Specifications say it should have Radeon HD8960A discrete graphics as well as possible ntegrated graphics on the GPU.

    Not a bad looking screen and the touch is nice. My wife can't live without a touchscreen for working in google office. Reminds me I forgot I was looking for a 3rd gen laptop with touch that I can upgrade the cpu on.
    It might've been worth trying to redo the thermal paste in that psu. You don't always see paste used in a psu but you'll see it a lot in these tiny ones. Something to keep in mind next time you service this thing since it dries out just like the stuff you put on your cpu.

    • @RememberThisTech

      Hey there! Some of those 3rd gen laptops with touch screens cost a pretty penny back in the day! Best of luck hope you find a good deal on one! As far as using thermal paste inside a power supply I've never heard of that. Cheers!

      @@RememberThisTech they'll put it sometimes on the backside of the transistors that are bolted to the aluminum heat sinks. These tiny ones seem to have it more often than not. I guess because heat is even more an issue in a tight space.

Salud

    I'm still laughing at no PSU mounting bracket 🤣. Dell has the power to be innovators yet continuously choose to be the back seat driver making up things to make things worse. i liked how it quickly booted up into windows with the SSD you shoved in it. This is a perfect budget machine for everyday use since the last thing you would really want to do on it is gaming on that poor little 750m. This AIO has a Thunderbolt 1 port. For science, you could buy a Thunderbolt GPU enclosure, stick a cheap Nvidia 1060 on it, and see what happens, but is it more trouble than its worth LMAO. It would be a semi pricey experiment, but would be rather hilarious to get it working. Anyways, GJ getting the AIO up and running. Hopefully, you can find it a good home to someone that can appreciate it for at least 5+ years.

      Hey there. Good ideas ty. To be fair the power supply I bought wasn't an oem dell but rather a Chinese oem compatible pwsp. On the external graphics card note. This pc has a mini pcie slot that the wireless cards in... now I could get an adapter cable an a external pcie slot and try that route too. I've seen others on yt do this with varying results.

    hi, today I bought a working touchscreen on an articulated stand 2710 for $110 - can you help me, can I install Windows 10 or 11 on it? Considering the strange and annoying problem with BIOS corruption and black screen, is it also possible that the 2720 model is better suited for Windows 10 or 11? Thanks for the review and detailed video!

    • @RememberThisTech
      @RememberThisTech  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there. You can install windows 10 on it. Windows 11 might need TPM bypass but might not work at all with recent changes MS has made. I can't speak to the 2710 model but can say that both the 2720 and 10 are plagued with Power supply issues. Are you certain it's not a power supply problem causing the black screens etc.? Even after I replaced my PS and installed win 10 and re-thermal pasted everything and cleaned it I still get issues. Perhaps the dying ps on my old unit cause motherboard damage? Far as you Bios corruption You could try and flash it to update it if there's a newer version available.. But if you lose power or your PS is unstable and it dies mid flash you could brick it entirely.
