A really funny guy with some very impressive impact on communities in the US. Thanks for sharing this "food" for thought as well as the all too omitted wholistic approach to weight loss and longevity.
@@thatspiritualhumaneHe stays active (has broken 2 Guiness world records for biking), written best selling books, has his own organization, is close with his father, 3 brothers and children. Has lots of friends and does numerous talks annually, including multiple podcasts. He eats a plant-based diet, had a sense of purpose, etc. He definitely will live a long, productive life.
Its funny that this person(s) I "know" from work, thinks that their diet is fool proof and is hands down the best, BUT ALL THEY EATS IS HOT POCKETS AND GMOS??! So I dare say, Then why is this person constantly going into psychotic episodes!? this person just doesnt realize thier game is no game at all. ITS LIFE. But is it everlasting?? I doubt it, because I KNOW WHO THEY ARE, WHERE THEY WANNA BE, AND, how stupidity along with underestimation can prove to be toxic to your mental health. you should try the cabbage soup diet. works for my mom every time.
If I was giving a grade for his lecture, I would give him a C- and I think I'm being generous. He loses a lot of points by recommending sourdough bread, wheat products, and whole wheat bread, which is still processed food when bought in the US and most countries. There is a ton of evidence now that wheat and grains make you fat. The non-processed sourdough bread from the Italian blue zone is likely not available to 99% of us, so he can't say "I meant the blue zone version." That jab against paleo shows he doesn't know everything. I will admit meat is probably incompatible with a low calorie existence, but he's not qualified to criticize paleo, which IMHO is better than Dan's diet as-is. If you follow his advice and eat grains and whole wheat, none of the other stuff will matter because you will get fat from wheat belly. It's a huge mistake that makes his diet garbage. Eat real food and avoid fake food or modified food would have been much better. Doesn't matter to me if you call it paleo or blue zone or vegan or whatever.
+vfka I know you are a low carber with an agenda which is why discussion is probably fruitless and like a parrot you repeat everything you read in your Grain Brain and Wheat Belly books but this guy actually traveled to the societies that live the longest and they all EAT GRAINS. They're lean. PERIOD. Why is that? The reason is grains don't make you fat. Obviously you're not supposed to ONLY eat grains and overeat but the trick is to have grains as part of an UNPROCESSED food diet with lots of fruits, veggies, legumes. The cause of obesity is all the artificial junk people eat and not grains. A Big Mac is the combination of protein, carbs(from grains) and fat, plus added sugar and other stuff. It's not just the grains of a Big Mac that make you fat. A donut is a mixture of sugar, fat and grains. The whole combo of these nutrient lacking foods lead to obesity. Societies who live the longest still eat grains but they don't eat them as Twinkies. Books like Wheat Belly just pretend like junk food has nothing to do with obesity and it's just grains that are bad. Paleo says it's all starches, plus dairy. Atkins says it's only starches. Everyone chooses a certain food group to blame with the main goal to make money. Rather that blindly following fad diets, people should check out what healthy societies DO and what they don't DO. I can tell you that the lack of processed junk is what they don't include in their diet. Paleo is a diet that was invented in a modern society and has nothing to do with the actual diet of stone-age humans. My mother is almost 78. She has eaten wheat every day all her life. Her height is about 5'6 and her weight has always been 120 pounds which she proudly always tells you. I have eaten grains all my life, I'm 5'10, 150 pounds and my body fat percentage is around 15%.
+evomoralesCO You didn't even read what I wrote. The grains in the blue zone is very different than the US version. All of the fiber and nutrients have been stripped out. The wheat in the US is processed. You can't eat bread even if it says "whole wheat". I have no problems with fruit (which can have lots of carbs), veggies, and legumes. If you want to die, keep eating whole wheat.
+vfka The typical low carb threat. I just re-edited my last comment where I added that I'm 5'10, 150 pounds and have about 15% body fat. Ok, if you think I'll die young based on that, stay in your illusion. My father is 85 btw. He also ate wheat all his life. I'm sure you can get good organic bread in the US and not just Wonder bread. Again, It's processed junk that makes people fat, plus too much food, lack of exercise and other reasons, not wheat alone. Stop being ignorant. Your way of thinking is typical American. The conclusion of why certain societies have a healthy and high longevity rate is that it depends on several factors: friendship, faith, daily activity, diet and other factors. The conclusion is NOT the typical snakes oil argument, pointing at certain DON'Ts like don't eat wheat and your all set. That's the typical tactic of a fad diet.
the acid in the sour dough bread is probably what blunts the insulin spike, like apple cider vinegar. Sugar is poison, but the fiber that accompanies the carb is the cure or antidote. Whole foods is healthy.
You are mistaking. An apple is not an apple if you compare US with ....other country. I came from a place where people where eating potatoes and bread with bread, pig's fat, drink moonshine and live healthy life. Nothing was sprayed, GMO and fucked up the way is done in your country . Go travel a bit, and you might discover the THRUE taste of a banana or a tomato . You have no idea

Correct. "You're a funny guy Dan Buettner, that's why you're gonna die last" !
