Aang's merciful nature in a mature story is part of what makes him unique; most mature stories have a protagonist who kills/hurts others at some point for the sake of the greater good, even if they don't want to.
Yeah. It kind of counters what we see both in Dragon Ball Z with Gohan's fight against Cell, and the kids in the later portion of the second season of Digimon.
@MatthewJamesKalasky Really wish Gohan got more focus instead of Toriyama making it an either/or situation with being powerful or making time for family and a job. Plus DB in general kind of de-sensitizes you to death since everyone can be brought back anyway--but that's why it's my comfort show!
The POWER SYSTEM is the base of the Worldbuilding and tree you mentioned. Which is why it's evident in all manga/anime. Which Avatar: The Lastbender is no different. Thank you for your videos. They are priceless.
avatar isn't an anime right? dictionaries say anime is a piece of animation made in japan, something like that. yes avatar has many asian. influences but it's style isn't completely anime, it has most of it but it is mixed with also a pixar, disney, or western design too. also its made in america by an american network, made by americans (also asians but they were still american too)
This was a really good video and I *really* liked what you said about using worldbuilding as a catalyst or fuel to inform a character's personality. It made me think about how easy it is to make a wide cast of characters, perhaps some who's ideals are the opposite of their culture's because it oppressed them or traumatized them and now they resent it. Without the trauma, your character could be an inherent outcast. I feel like the makers of Avatar were really able to show their prowess at using this technique in Legend of Korra. You can really feel that every one of the characters is or has a piece of where they came from even if they are trying to overthrow their nation and/or the main characters. It feels like a very mature or adult show because *all* the characters feel so real and believable despite living in a world with magic and animals beyond our comprehension.
Exactly! It's so fascinating to see how characters react to their world. Stories like that are so relatable because that's what happens to us in real life, we're all shaped by our environment and we react to it in different ways. I also agree, believability is a lot more about how real your characters feel and a lot less about how realistic the genre is. Thanks for the comment :)
@@brainless_mastermind Nice job with the recent output too. I'm glad to have found your channel. I'm curious about what started the new energy to get going consistently for you, because I could use some of whatever that is 😆
Aaaaa my favorite series! And so well put together video! Glad I found this channel through your video on Wish this movie has never been made. Subscribing! Sending cherishes and much love from Brazil 🇧🇷!❤

@@turtle1658I mean, yes. By that definition Alta isn’t an anime. It’s still a great series regardless of where it’s from imo ❤
I’m writing my first ever full length story, so this video could not have come at a better time!
Thanks for your comment! I'm really glad it was helpful haha. Good luck, writing is hard but fun, we can do this 👍
