This song has a very queen like feeling. But not on the good one. See prince of the universe song. The first half is a pump up song the type I want in my gym playlist. But then halfway in it goes down to the beginning of a new song and then after 30secong get into a solo and end with the first song. Queen normally manage to do it because they only play 2 songs together but ultimately prince of the universe has too many song in one in only 3mn. This song has the same issue. Sure the beat are less different but not as good either and the cadence is so bad it’s either 2 very bad melody or like 5 small ok melody hat shouldn’t be mixed

It is bad, the LYRICS made zero sense, and the queen just joining them made it even worse! in my opinion. When it comes to music specially from musical, I like to pay attention to the lyrics. There was no emotional pull, not enough revelation of the betrayal, and most importantly IT LACK information about each characters dynamic with each other that would make them blend well in that scene. In my eyes it just look like them dramatically whining about a betrayal that did not involve them deeply enough to have this emotional moment.

You know how when a piece of media is really annoying, it leads to heavier scrutiny because people are actively looking for things to call out? Yeah, this video had a lot of issues

To add to your points on the digetic music at the North Pole. I like the songs they chose, hero girl is saying she can hear bells and is in awe. We hear nothing but the background music “sleigh bells ring, are ya listening?” Later when the music loops on “silver bells” (which is also the colour of the bells Santa has). The looped part is “ring a ling” really emphasizeing the “mechanical” part the hero boy sees Christmas. The other two kids hear magical bells ringing while the hero boy finds some sort of mechanical reasoning behind it, but I also like to think it shows how much he wants to belive as well, because he is very focused on the “ringing” parts of songs.

I think one of my favorite examples of sound design would be not just the magic leitmotif, but Billy's leitmotif. Whenever he's the focus character in a scene, it plays non-diegetically for that little snapshot in the scene. For example, when he's watching the train leave before he runs after it, or when he's stealing a glance at the other kids from the other side of the door. Just in the fact that it plays at all ensures you know he'll be of some importance in the film. Of course, it reaches its peak when Billy sings When Christmas Comes to Town, which features his leitmotif as the melody the lyrics follow, and I can happily say it's my favorite in the whole movie.

Ok, I have a few thoughts. 1. The magic theme is just amazing. I've been listening to this score on repeat for the last week working on finals and it's been great. 2. Only this year did I learn that the bell was whispering "doubter", which is such a neat little detail. 3. Back to the non-diegetic music, you could argue that the magic theme can also be twisted specifically when talking with the hobo when the boy asks "are you saying this is all just a dream?" and as soon as he gets home looking around his house, almost like the whole experience is still questionable since the theme is much quieter and slower. Almost like reaching a low spot, asking "what is the point"? The magic theme isn't used as straightforward as the final sequence in every case, which makes this movie all the more interesting. 4. Super cool analysis! This video makes me love the movie all the more!
