Muguruza mental pressure loss didn't recover from Kenin AO and the downfall from there to her retirement.. she's the only one that beaten the William sisters in the finals......

She lost only one lousy set, and I say lousy because it was in her first round or first match.
Congrats to my girl and I am so sad she had to or chose to retire.
She didn't win many tournaments, sad, but I am happy enough she won two majors and an WTA Finals. I will miss Garbine and Anett Kontaveit dearly.
Muguruza was clutch in this match. She played very well. When she plays like this she's very difficult to beat. My only problem with her is how inconsistent she can be and loose matches she has no business losing.
Injuries on the one hand, and female biology on the other. One or the other, and certainly both can impact a player's focus.

That look of Serena towards the poor ballkid at 1.11 .. I know she must have been focused but that. poor kid.
Serena’s mental block at both the Australian open final and this one was real. That dumb loss to Vinci in 2015 definitely took a toll.
In that AO final, she kept coming to the net and couldn't deal with Kerber's passing shots or even the short balls she was giving. Serena looked clueless at the net that day.

Not to detract from Muguruza, but. Serena wasn't herself 100% from the start of the tournament. And Mugurza was 110% herself at least. C'est la vie.
Serena was suffering from an
abdominal injury in the second week of this tournament and had difficulties serving. She was also past her prime here and had to deal with awful scheduling due to weather conditions while Garbine lucked out.
yeah they scheduled her like 4 matches in a row. no breaks.
Sure Jan....it had nothing to do with muguruza moving better, outhitting her, and high % first serves...lol

No. Serena won in 2012 and not Sharapova. Sharapova only won one RG and that was in 2014.
