This case is so fascinating to me. A shady lawyer trying to convince other lawyers. It was quite entertaining to watch him pull out all his tricks and the jury saw right through him. Classic. The Paw Paw thing still makes me cringe though lol

The hubris of this guy who just had to take the stand. He really sunk his case as a consequence. The grandiosity of this guy is amazing. He's performance on the stand is simply a huge mistake. But, his psychopathy demanded he take the stand.
Listening to his testimony post conviction makes me see even more clearly how he manipulates people with his story telling. He draws you in with his “good ole boy” demeanor. He tries to make you believe what he is saying is “Gospel”, even though the other part of your brain is screaming “There’s no way it happened like he said it did!”. But he almost guilts you into agreeing with him, even though common sense tells you he is a liar! He draws attention away from what you need to be watching for, with details of other things that have no relevance to the actual case. It’s a total diversionary tactic. I’m sure that Buster looks back on this testimony & is like “My dad was B.S.’ing & trying to con everyone, like he always does!”. I’m sure Buster knows the truth, but also realizes his father has several appeals left, so he’s been warned by other family members &/or lawyers to keep quiet. Part of him probably wants to scream & the other part is scared because he has lost his entire family & his way of life , that will never be the same again. I’m sure he doesn’t want to be the catalyst that sends his father to prison, but at the same time he probably hopes he never sees the light of day again! It must be so difficult for him. God help him! If Buster is involved with Steven Smith’s death (Allegedly), he knows he’s probably next to be facing the same fate as his father. That would petrify anyone, let alone a young man that always has been very “protected”, by his family.
You had a trial chat. I’m late to the case. It is one of the most intriguing looks into the mind of a narcissist I have ever seen in true crime. Then to have his son solve the case is just unreal. Only way he would be caught with his influence.

He tries really hard to show emotion, but it comes off really forced and disingenuous. His lack of actual tears, forced sniffling, and wiping of nonexistent tears reminds me of many interrogations in the show, The First 48.
