I’ve been a tech recruiter for almost 10 years and I work for tech Fortune 500 company. I concur with his statements. 😄😄 But for me, what I wish I knew about this line work is that the job nature makes it a little unstable at times. 1. Our work can be really unstable. Companies can go on a hiring spree for few quarters and hiring freeze/slows the next. 2. Hard to justify & quantify what is manageable amount of work Some employer expect you to handle 40-80 open positions while some expect you to handle at maximum 20. 3. You MUST enjoy talking to random people and else you will not like this function. Truthfully, this function is not for everyone. 4. Managing pipeline. This is the most important , else you will struggle. 5. It is ultimately a SALES job. You are selling the position you are hiring for.
If you can free lance and make it thru those first few months till you invoice you can really make a killing but a company does offer more stability $$ wise if you can’t go without for 4-6 months to get things going
Valuable information on recruiting! Thanks for a well organized overview! I have a big zoom second interview with the Talent Division Manager and the Director of Client relations for the staffing agency I'm applying at!
I'm working for tsa currently (6 months in and I'm ready to jump off the boat). I had a random thought of doing recruiting today but i was not knowledgeable about it, until I stumbled upon your video
Optimism is not enough, its tough. I have a Bachelors degree in Public Relations, one of my favourite subjects was HR. Since I graduated I was looking for a job as a Recruiter, its not that easy to find a junior recruiter job without expirience. 2 years since I graduated, I have worked on different job positions and I still cant land a recruiting job because everyone is looking for an expirienced recruiter. This is the biggest problem with new graduates, generally speaking.
I hear you Rahman! And it's not just the field of recruiting! It's astounding what many companies expect from candidates for junior positions. Basically they all want senior-level skills & experience and pay a rookie's salary. Anyone else have the same experience?
Very informative. I applied at temp agencies as a recruiter but they all want Someone with experience which I do not have. I had four year bachelors degree on industrial and organizational psychology which involve into doing HR kind of job. I just never started a job in that field for many years and now I regretted it because nobody gave me a call for a position because I don’t have any work experience
I’ve turned the no into a maybe many times with just a little teaser for down the road a little ways and people are always interested in knowing there options. That’s the heart of my pitch. I always have opportunities for people like yourself so if your ever interested in seeing what’s available just let me know and I got good feedback and Curiosity which is very good
Needed this today. Been recruiting trades for just over a year. And have been asking myself lately why am I doing this? Well you reminded me why. Thank you! ♥️🇨🇦♥️
To do check list… get up source for 12 hours next day pick thru the bones for 6 hours and then vet and submit for 6 hours. Then start over. In between connect with as many hiring managers as you can… or be a preferred recruiter in job bounty lol

I wish to be know that to be a recruiter it is very important to know and speak fluently many languages, in special english and german. To be open to many people and not to exhausted by them. And the salaries are not very high.
I am hopefully switching careers into full desk recruiter at my current employer, I have the social skills and 12-year knowledge of many areas at my employer in academic health sciences center.
If there a start up take the chance, you will get what you put in. If you can make it thru those first few months with out $ once it does come it’s unbelievable $$
I don't like the idea of someone else's merit/effort/quality of work affecting MY income. I'm being offered a full commission recruiter position. If candidates don't stick around or fail to learn the job, or the company decides they don't like the person... I don't get paid! How do you reconcile that?
If the volatility of only having a commission stresses you out, maybe you can consider an internal/corporate recruiting role that also offers a stable salary!
If I have an HR background not that many years btw but it was with a respectable corporation…and I want to transition to recruiting do I need to start at the bottom again as a coordinator or can I start as a recruiter ? Also is that seen as stupid move/demotion? HR and ER just isn’t for me and I was mentally suffering
If you are mentally suffering, changing your job isn't stupid at all! It's so important to look after yourself and pursue a path you are most interested in! Most agencies will hire entry level recruiters and right now thats the best way to get in!
@lolforever HR has a lot of pros and cons but if you want the cons. It’s lonely, nobody likes HR, you’re pretty much just a business assistant you help leaders manage their employees but yet you don’t get credit for it nor do you get compensated for it, it’s high stress because people always come to you with complaints, you get frustrated because you know the problems but you can’t do anything about it, overworked, HR is viewed as a cost center so HR is the first to get cut in layoffs/downsizing I can’t think of more things right now because I’m running errands but that’s a bit of the cons

Yuck staffing agencies.. How to correctly get a job: Never get a job through an agency, ONLY THROUGH THE ACTUAL COMPANY. If they are hiring only through a staffing agency, its a very strong sign your salary will stay the same/be a lot lower than what other companies offer for the same position. It would be recommended NOT to work at that company anyways. Because they're using a staffing agency in the first place, this implies they want to cut down the costs to hire new employees. This is a common tactic that amazon/warehouse/shipping companies use to meet their employment budget to keep the executives happy from a profit standpoint. For everyone reading if you're a full stack engineer: Do not, I repeat, DO NOT ever get a job through a staffing agency. One, they're not employees of the actual company you will be working at, and they stiff you on your salary. The company itself will always offer you a higher salary than the staffing agency (usually by 10-25 k) and they're pretty much worthless. They barely take the time to read your actual resume and then contact you for a job that most of the time barely related with a position that matches your experience. I was getting contacted so often by multiple staffing agencies since most of the time they see the dollar signs once they read my resume even after I had a detailed note in my resume for staffing agencies to not contact me!! They only care about one thing: being the person that found the employee for the company. They are such a joke, and worthless. If you want to get your salary stiffed, by all means go with a staffing agency. Read reddit if you think im the only one that shares this strong opinion and outlook. The way they make money is so shady.. vice did a great documentary on staffing/temp agencies. If you are truly desperate and cannot find a job on your own, then that is the only okay time to use one (and its so hard for me to even say that about them). What i find absolutely funny is where my resume has section labeled with the word IMPORTANT** to tell them not to bother contacting me if they're a staffing agency and they still go ahead and do anyways. Its not just one of them, its literally almost every single one. That's how I know they barely read my resume, as well as they probably use third party software that crawls different job sites for potential candidates they can find through whatever filters they decide they need for specific job career fields.
@@auroramothergoddess Nope definitely does not. If you're in college as a intern , desperate for a job, or do not have enough experience in your resume to be a valid candidate, then maybe then. But even then its still a really bad choice. If you do have experience, staffing agencies are a complete rip off and joke.
Nah, a Legit staffing Firm will endorse you to client persuasively and then you will work directly to the company if hired and the company won't have cut on your salary
