Never gave a snake bait a thought. That should work well above the haycock ramp in lilly pad city.
Not weedless though so you would have to fish the edges.
Snake lure works great... I've caught nice pickerel during the day & some decent bass at night with it... Have ya ever tried their bat/crazy crawler lure? It's nice too...

On location, what kind of structure, if any, were you throwing around?
Large shallow flats with stumps and some pads. Water was high and most stumps were hidden.
