  • Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2008 | The creative spirit of Spain's Catalunya - the land of Picasso, Gaudí, and Salvador Dalí - is on a roll. We'll get caught up in the festivity of Barcelona, enjoying the vibrant street scenes, tasty tapas, and pedestrian-friendly Gothic Quarter. Then we'll take a scenic side trip to mountaintop Montserrat, and finish with an artist's pilgrimage along the Costa Brava to Salvador Dalí country. In seaside Cadaques, we'll visit Dalí's home, and in nearby Figueres, we'll experience his playfully surreal mausoleum/museum. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #catalunya

    I remember years ago when I dreamed of traveling to Europe. I was a homemaker raising my two children while my husband worked. I folded clothes, cooked and cleaned and watched Rick Steves, and just dreamed. I am on my way to my 5th trip to Europe, in a few days to Barcelona. I thank God for allowing me to live my dream to visit some of the most beautiful places. This was what my husband told me to do before he passed.

    One of my favourite cities! I love it so much that I’m seriously thinking about moving there. I know how to speak Spanish, so it’s easier for me to go live there. I love their cannabis culture, clubs and how free the people seem to be. So many food options and streets to explore! Absolutely love this place. I’ve been on vacation there for 10 days this August and I also visited Monserrat. 🙂

    Wow, Wow, Wow! So beautiful Barcelona & Catalunya! Such a culture rich & amazing region. Pablo Picasso's amazing talents, just leave me in amazement & awe! He was indeed a true Master of creativity on canvas. His varying artistic style on canvas, showcases just how talented he actually was.
    I just love his oil painting, "First Communion". It's simply....divine, specifically in all it's finer detail. His sister's fine, pretty & soft flowing "veil", just WOW!!! The realism in all detail, specifically on human faces, is just incredible.
    I really love & appreciate travel, i love Spain's beauty and cultural diversity & this is so interesting & fun to watch!
    Thanks for sharing & happy travels to Rick & to all!

    Are people polite and hospitable in Barcelona, Spain?
    Do they discriminate against Southeast Asians?
    Are there a lot or crimes?
    What are employment opportunities for lawyers and doctors?

    How much is the rent for an apartment?

    • @almendroverde
      @almendroverde 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      First, a lot of people are polite and hospitable, but like half of them won't be if you say "Barcelona, Spain" instead of "Barcelona, Catalonia".
      There's not a culture of discrimination against different people, but there's some hate to tourists (because there's too much of them).
      Again, if robbers think you're a tourist they'll probably target you, insted of local people. There are more dangerous zones than others, just be cautious and you should be alright.
      No idea about lawyers, but there's a need for doctors.
      Barcelona is not a cheap place to live, houses can be pretty expensive. You can google it to know more.

    I've always enjoyed Rick's video. They're very informative.. but I would recommend staying away from political catalan separatist issues!
    1. Only few catalans .. consider themselves as a nation without a state..
    2. General Franco was a great patrón of the Barcelona football club.
    3. Catalan was not prohibited...but spanish was forced to be used as the official language FOR ALL OF SPAIN!

    • @josepmonrasvila1994

IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND IT, TRNASLATE IT)

      please!!! in Barcelona they dont use tapas... if you drink a beer they dont give you anything for eat... maybe two or three olives. the best tapas in the world are in castile or andalusia. you only pay the beers and you will full stomach free

      If you come again the fisrt sunday of every month there's something called "la nit dels museus" (night of the museums) where many are open and for free, the bad thing is that some of them are over crowded, because it's free ;)

    I'm Catalan and I'm fed up of every time a video presents Barcelona with Southern Spain Andalusian guitar music. I was watching the Montserrat part imagining the monks dressed up like flamenco dancers and couldn't stop but thinking how wrong that music was. I did also missed your focus on Catalan cuisine and not Basque tapas and 'paelia', saved the vermut mention.

      Why do you hate the spanish anyway? it's a common misconception, other parts of Spain get represented by andalusian music too.
      It would be nice if you provide some links on Catalan cuisine an music too. It would be awesome

      HugsmadeDrugs What hatred?! You're talking nonsense. I want them to get rid of the stereotypes and match the proper music for every part of Spain as close as they can. That's it.
