  • Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2004 | Sevilla is the flamboyant city of Carmen and Don Juan, where bullfighting is still politically correct and little girls dream of growing up to become flamenco dancers. Sevilla has soul - and we feel it in its lacy Moorish palace, massive cathedral, lavish royal tombs, labyrinthine Jewish quarter, and its people-filled streets. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #sevilla

    I lived in Seville for four months during college. I had the privilege of going to Feria. My classmates and I used to sit along the Gaudalquivir, where you walked, doing homework and drinking Coca cola. I was married not long after my time there and while there I bought a traditional flamenco dress in white and wore it along with a comb and mantilla, instead of a veil, at my wedding.

      +Matheus Oliviera Muller I've never been to a place that has people more kind, with more family/community oriented people, than Sevilla. That's a HUGE statement coming from me because most other Americans don't believe that I came from a community that if a farmer gets sick everyone chips in and helps with the work. If you can't find your car keys the response was, "Why didn't you leave them in the ignition". I was shocked to when I realized that a city in Spain felt more like home than 80% of the US. I must go back!

      easter is the best time to go, because for us, April is a big month, and the city looks totally different. It is true that easter is the bussiest time in Sevilla, but that is because during it, we celebrate Holy Week (when you can see the most pupular holy week processions of Spain, and surely of the world), and also we celebrate "La feria de Abril" (Fair of April) which is the most popular fair of Spain too. The city is so colorful during easter and sunny. You would love it! However, Christmas is also a very good time to go, Christmas's nights in Seville are amazing and the weather is not bad!

    3:05 "Spaniards consider Andalusia the home of flamenco"
    It's not that Spaniards consider it. It IS. Not only that, flamenco is just from Andalusia, not Spain. You can find people in Madrid, Bilbao, Valladolid or Barcelona who like flamenco, listen or dance to it, but it's not that different from finding that in New York. We all know it's not part of our traditions outside Andalusia (and maybe part of Extremadura and Murcia if at all).

    • @79soleil
      @79soleil 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Osutip soy de Murcia y no se que tiene q ver el flamenco con murcia. Aquí hay gente a la que le gusta (se hace uno de los festivales mas importantes a nivel nacional “el cante de las minas”) pero la música tradicional de Murcia es la jota murciana

      Es cierto lo que usted dice. La música popular más extendida es la Jota. Fuera de Andalucía no hay apenas flamenco en ningún sitio. Sin embargo, cada pueblo de España tiene su Jota. Una música medieval que se funde en nuestras tradiciones. La Jota está extendida por todas las regiones de España; incluida Andalucía, por la zona de Jaén.

    Is it a good idea to visit Seville from Grenada and come back by late evening or night
    Can we cover maximum in a day in Seville?

    • @hayleymar
      @hayleymar 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you are going off season and it's not crowded, you might be able to see a couple things all in a day. The Alcázar is really the neatest part, but it is pretty big. La Giralda (the cathedral) is the other main draw. Rick Steves didn't mention another beautiful site: La Plaza de España.

      There's lots to see in Seville: Royal Palace, Cathedral, Barrio Santa Cruz, Maria Luisa's Park and Plaza de España, Flamenco Museum, nightlife, Triana, Itálica...

      @@arianam9977 Those are the gardens in the Alcazar. There is even more impressive gardens in the front of the Parliament buildings,, the Plaza d'Espagna, Park Maria Luisa, and even outside and around the Alcazar.

      123benny4 I am from Seville myself. I was wondering what you were actually talking about. Those in the video are the gardens of the Alcázar, yeah. Then, there are other gardens which are the "Jardines de Murillo". What you're talking about is "parque de María Luisa", which is a park, not a garden.

    • @arianam9977
      @arianam9977 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      123benny4 PS: "Espagna" doesn't mean anything in any language. In Spanish it's "España", in French it's "Espagne", in Italian it's "Spagna", in Portuguese it's "Espanha" and in Catalan it's "Espanya". So if you don't have the letter "ñ" it's better if you just write an "n" and not make a mix of languages 😅

      Hi Sandra, I am a real sevillian, I mean I was born in Seville and I live at there, there's a wide range of prices but I think that is a cheap place to stay, just look for a not far place from the center like nervion, or Triana (nervion will be more cheap) and enjoy my city,

      Picasso nació en otra ciudad de la región de Andalucía: Málaga. En Málaga tiene un museo. En Sevilla están los cuadros de los pintores nacidos en Sevilla: Velázquez, Murillo, etc. Además, muchas obras de Picasso, Velázquez, Dalí, Goya, etc, están en Madrid: Museo Del Prado, museo Reina Sofía, etc. Otro gran pintor, el Greco, vivía en la ciudad de Toledo y allí están sus cuadros.
