  • Every Internet of Things (IoT) solution starts with a sensor sending data, and every sensor needs a network to communicate. Learn how LoRa-enabled sensors and gateways help create a smarter, better IoT for a more sustainable future.
LoRa is the de facto wireless platform of IoT, created by Semtech. With hundreds of millions of deployed devices, solving some of the biggest challenges facing our planet, LoRa is making the world a better place to live, work and play.

This video is not about how it works but why it's good. Nothing more. The title is misleading.

So what it is ? Is it radio ? How does the signal propagate ? What is the range ? Which bandwidth ? Can you explain with more details ? Which material do we need ? Thanks

Industrial imperialist technology. This communication is owned by chip manufacturers. Nobody else can make anything compatible from scratch. HDMI and DAB+ radio are different examples.

@@manuell3505 I'm fine with it. Seems the price is reasonable to make super cheap stuff and at least we get the technology, which was nowhere to be found prior. If we need a free version of it then we can make it ourselves, but as it stands there's no point.

According to wikipedia, it operates just below 1 GHz, so it is Ultrahigh Frequency (UHF) radio, and also has 2.4 GHz capability presumably making it compatible with WiFi. Range can be up to 30 miles line of sight. It does not bounce off the ionosphere because that applies to VHF frequencies (30 - 300 MHz). The signal propagates like any radio signal, but it is modulated using a spread spectrum technique.
Modules by Reyax can be controlled by an Arduino using "AT" commands, which are basically strings sent in serial following the AT format. But the specifics may depend on the module and company.
LoRa supposedly draws very little battery and can last for years, but in practice it would depend on the current draw of the whole system running off of a battery. If paired with an Arduino, which has a battery life of a few days, the Arduino becomes the limiting factor in battery life. One would have to design a minimal system to perform the desired task at low current draw in order to take advantage of the battery life.
