You know, I'm right now navigating through a really bad time in my life, I've been for the last year actually. And I discovered this channel because I liked to run to release stress, but didn't do it properly, didn't fully enjoy what I was doing. And you really helped me to improve. Now I can run longer, better, and principally enjoy the process, as you wisely say. And is in part for you. For every video, for every training session, for every shared thought. I don't know if you are aware of the importance you have in the life of other people, but I can speak at least for myself and assure you that today, thanks to running and thanks to you, I am a happier and better man. Thank you, from the deepest of my heart. Thank you. You are truly amazing.
Oh my goodness. This is extremely humbling to read and we’re just happy we could have played some small part in improving someone’s life. I’ve been struggling a little recently too. Every video is performing worse than the one before. TH-cam is strangling the channel a bit and it gets frustrating BUT this one message puts it ALL in to perspective. We did not start this channel to do anything other than try to help 1 person. And if we were able to positively affect 1 persons life then it is all worth it. So thank you as well from the deepest of my heart. It means so much that you’re part of the community and that we have been able to help 😊
I've always been in awe of you two...your joyous marriage, your fitness and all the affirming messages. Today was better than all the rest. My decades of running and fitness were just put into a richer focus by your messages. All my thoughts are now more more meaningfully affirmed by the examples of Mary and Ben. Thank you so much!
Holy moly Tim! That is such an incredibly nice thing to say. Thank you so much. Completely humbled to read something so lovely. I really appreciate it 😊👍🏻
Thanks for this Ben and Mary. I am a classic example of someone who started and stopped running so many times throughout my life, but something kept calling to me to start up again. The reason it's stuck this time is because I'm actually allowing myself to be the slow runner that I am. I value the time in nature, the time to be ME without the other labels, and the feeling of accomplishment I get. I also very much value the example I'm setting for my 2 year old daughter. It's not about how fast I am doing it, and it's not about what I look like doing it, it's about DOING IT. So thank you for this, and for consistently driving home the need for us all to connect with our why and our purpose.
Thank you so much for this video Ben, I needed this. There are so many messages within the video that are resonating with me at the moment. I did my first marathon distance yesterday with an expected conservative time in mind but from the start my heart rate was high and stayed there. The last 12k's were difficult and my finish time blew out. I failed in my time goal . I didn't feel connected to the run or the seaside environment and I forgot the reason and why I started running in the first place (mental wellbeing). When I got home my wife celebrated the fact that I completed a marathon but I still felt deflated because it wasn't the result I'd hoped for. She was impressed that I had dedicated myself to a running plan for months and completed the goal but all I could see was that I didn't achieve this arbitrary time. Watching this video reminded me that this was just one run and that I had enjoyed so many joyful moments during the training just to get to yesterdays run. I'm still booked in to do the Melbourne Marathon in December (which was meant to be be this coming weekend) so I think I'll now be approaching it with a different mindset so I can actually enjoy it, aka better perspective. I'll be coming back to this video in the future to remind myself of the real end goal. Thank you. P.S I never hit the snooze button.
Thanks Alan. And having read this, you’ve hit the nail on the head. Times come and go. If you stay in the game and for the right reasons they’ll probably happen anyway. And your wife is very wise 😉 you fell in love with the process. So you’ll be back at it in no time. Well done for running a marathon!! Epic achievement 💪🏻🤟🏼
I love all of this! So many truths in your statement. Some quotes/thoughts that I've used myself > "Comparison is the theif of joy.", "be patient and forgive yourself often. Life happens. Adjust and keep moving forward.", and lastly, one that I say in my videos; "Be consistent, express gratitude, and enjoy every mile!"
That was great! Great footage and nice to hear a bit of your back story. I love the message. You really captured the almost spiritual nature of a run. Running has practically become like church for me. Just puts me fully in the moment. Makes me feel present and connected; to nature and other people (Definitely related to saying hello whether they do or not). I've even grown to like the "negative" aspects like bug bites, extreme temperatures, precipitation, etc. I have truly come to love the process thanks to you.
True that. All very similar to me, Ira. It’s almost a connection you can’t explain. But I’m glad I’m in it for the long haul. I simply cannot imagine a day where I don’t see myself as a runner. 😊👍🏻
This came at a perfect time as I have just run my PW at the virtual London Marathon (4:22:50). I was never athletic but started running and racing in 2013 just to check it off some list but found myself loving the feeling it brought me. The joy it brought me. I never did crack sub-4 and was always ashamed of that. Came close but then injury hit and it was downhill after. Got better in 2019, but you know what hit us all. I felt lost, but after today, even at my worst, and after watching your vlog, I found the joy again. Thank you ❤️
I wonder if this was an intentional video, there might be a lot of lamenting what could have been after yesterday's marathons. You'll get it next time, love the process, be the process :)
This was the first time I heard “The only person you need to be better than is yourself, yesterday.” That will stick with me for the rest of my life. Thank you for giving me that wisdom. I’m new to the channel but already love your videos and find them I credibly inspiring and helpful on my running journey.
What a beautiful thought for a Sunday morning. All of it is so true, everything around my life has improved since I dropped some bad habits and taken up running. Hope your both keeping well ✌🏼
I loved, LOVED this video. Thank you. What a message. For the last 4-5 years I have neglected my physical and mental wellbeing. I have felt like I simply existed, certain of a premature death. I'm 51yo. 8 weeks ago my wife and I started a ketogenic diet...no not doing a plug here but cannot begin to describe the difference it has made to our lives. Lost 14 kilos each to this point. I'm back running a 5km journey to work 2-3 times a weeks (so badly need more endurance) and I feel GREAT. Not good but GREAT. I no longer feel like I simply exist but I have energy and motivation and a desire to be better. Love your channel!! Thanks again. Blessings.
I didn't know what to expect when I clicked on this video, but this was the best video ever for stretching after a run. Full of positive vibes, meaningful words and sarcastic comments about sand.
What a beautiful video - your words have really resonated with me. I’m currently on the injury bench and I’m missing my runs so so much - can’t wait to get back out there and back into my routine. Lots of people I work with(50+ year old men) often say to me that they don’t understand why I run so much - they just don’t get it - it’s my calm space and it’s part of my life now. I don’t do it because I have to, I do it because I want to. Even the tough sessions in the cold and the rain. I love it. I love the content you and Mary produce. Thank you for letting us all into your lives. You’re both a huge inspiration. XX
This is a fantastic video and should have 5.7 million views. Yes it is about running but the message could be applied to anything. ‘Don’t hit life’s snooze button’ will stay with me always. Thanks Ben and Mary, you are an inspiration to us all
Ben/Mary, probably the best film you’ve made - if a certain brand of lager made an advert for exercise… I’ll keep this video for every morning I can’t be arsed. You’re both an inspiration. Thank you.
Loved this! Just the message I needed to hear today after a tough 12 mile long run! Thank you both for sharing your love of running with the running community!
Daaamn! This was magical Ben! I'll save the audio of this and listen to it during my Marathon next month! So inspirational. By the way it's almost been a year since I started running and I have never snoozed once! I run cause I feel alive, cause I enjoy it and brings me happiness! This is MY MESSY HAPPY!
Love this, thank you Ben (and Mary!). As I've got older I rarely hit the snooze button in the morning - although sometimes it is tempting but I know I'll feel worse if I do. Hope all three of you are now feeling settled in your new life, and keep up the great videos.
I love this, love the message, 100% agree. Except running on the beach, I love it. Don't get the opportunity often, I live 2 hours away from the coast. I love your outlook.
I am just grinning. you are speaking to my heart, and from it. Funny story (to me). I never run with music or headphones. But when I had to do my first 18 miler (in training for my first marathon) I decided to listen to an audio book just to see how it went. About mile 16 I had to tear the headphones out. I was feeling AWFUL. And I realized, it's not the running that feels bad, it's my MIND that feels awful! I have been caught up in someone else's story for 16 miles, rather than paying attention to my own. So when I did my 20 miler (that ended up 21), I listened to the sounds of the world around me again for the whole time, and I felt AWESOME! I don't know how I started running, but I run now just because I love it. I am a late bloomer, started at age 46, but I hope to keep running for the rest of my life. Thank you for this video.
This is your best video so far! You really captured the essence of running and what makes it so rewarding. Great advice about never hitting the snooze button. This will be a video I will come back to watch again and again when I need a bit of motivation. Thanks!
I’m a wee bit late to this video but I just wanted to say that you really outdid yourself this time, Ben. This was a beautiful short movie, thought provoking, educational, aesthetically pleasing, calming and so much more. I don’t know if I’ve commented this here, but my running has taken a tumble due to the autoimmune diseases I suffer from. I relapse and remiss - all of last year I was running most every day in a remission, this year, not so good. I am a lot healthier than a lot of people and I could be so much worst off - that I am eternal grateful for, but my running is the food for my soul. Closest thing to flying without wings for me. And not being able to run has been like someone clipping my wings. Now although this may not be aimed necessarily at someone like me, I took a lot away from the video, primarily hope. I look forward to those hard sessions. I look forward to NOT wanting to press the snooze button because I am ready to go and take the world by storm with that days run. You and Mary have been a real beacon of hope for me during these trying times. Although I won’t be able to follow your 10k/half marathon plan with you guys this time around, I look forward to being able to use them when I am well enough. And I still tune into the vlogs and really look forward to them, let’s be real ☺️ Thank you Ben and Mary, for all of your hard work and for sharing your fitness journey and life with us (so excited and intrigued by Thailand - would love to visit myself one day. Never say never!). Sorry I’ve babbled on about myself, I just hope that my story reaches you with love and gratitude ❤️🌻 ps give Winnie a good pet from me, she gives me lots of reasons to smile during the vlogs!
I love running! Started back doing it during furlough! And my pal said i would stop in a few weeks. Not had less than 3 runs a week since. And im never wanting to stop!
I think this is my favourite of all your videos. It was so on point and sooo inspirational. I have shared with my fiend who has lost her mojo. Keep up the good work and sharing the joy ❤
I know a few have said this already, but this is my favourite video of yours, and I like a lot of them! I do tell my running buddies to watch some of your videos, but I’m sharing this with sooooooooooo many of them. I often reference your “infinite game” quote to my running buddies, this sums it up perfectly, inspiring! Especially, when we have a club session tonight and I’m leading one of the groups from my bike (one of those “injury” set backs) and it is forecast to rain. I’m not ducking this one!
Chris, this means a tremendous amount so thank you. You’re never sure how these types of videos will go but the response has been actually quite overwhelming so I will definitely do more along this theme in the future. I really appreciate you taking the time to write such nice things. Thank you so much 😊👍🏻
Thanks for the video, one of your best I think. The only lesson i learnt at school about running is that it was something to be avoided to protect my dignity and prevent further ridicule from the other kids and more blows to my ego and self esteem. With the help of friends and my own sheer bloody mindedness I built up my confidence and fitness to a point which allowed me to go out and run. It has not been a straight and uninterrupted journey. Although running has helped me to lose weight and build my self esteem, it is some of the themes you have touched on in your video about enjoying the process which will hopefully help me stay in the running game for the long haul. I know that the many people who have created so much content on TH-cam which has helped me in the last few years will not see this message, but I would like to say Thank You to them and to you for all that you do to help and inspire other runners of all abilities.
Brilliant video - just brilliant! I agree with everything you say - it is so blatantly obvious but for many, it is a hidden secret! I am so happy that I found this new way of life about 6 years ago - initially it was all about targets - I can remember the elation I felt when I first ran for 5k non stop - it was the same feeling as crossing the line in my first marathon, half Ironman and Ironman. You are absolutely right - with the enjoyment of exercise and the joy of getting out in all conditions to exercise does come the race outcomes, PBs and new distances but they are a byproduct. Thanks both!
Hemmingway wrote...nobility is not feeling noble to your fellow man but true nobility is feeling noble to your former self. Loved this video...if this channel could be bottled you will make a fortune!
Thank you for this, really. I truly appreciate it; such a motivating message for me. I’m rediscovering my love for running and so happy I found your channel. Thank you..
What a great video Ben... Amazing advice... really makes you think..smile..and want to enjoy every day that we can run.. as one day we wont be able to. Keep the wisdom coming, inspiring stuff 😁
Amazing video Ben. Well written and absolutely poignant. You are fantastic story teller and you really nailed it delivering the message about running and the fitness lifestyle. Also, I agree: running in sand is HARD. Not only will it make your pace come to a crawl but it can be tough on your achilles and calf muscles. Also running at the angle you and Mary were running at, it causes your hips to not be level, potentially generating a hip injury (I was very prone to them while running on banked farm roads in the US Midwest). As always, I love your channel and look forward to every Wednesday and Sunday.
Thank you, as always, Eddie. I wasn’t sure about the video but it’s had such a good reaction. Need to maybe think about more like this as it’s obviously struck a cord 😊👍🏻
If there is one thing I hate more than getting up at a ridiculous time to get my run in before work, it's NOT getting up to do it. I am probably lucky that any time I don't feel like making an effort my mind jumps in to action and reminds me how good I am going to feel. The buzz of a fresh body and a clear mind after a run is always worth it. Great video!
Ben, very thought provoking, well done. Your motto has to be lurking in there somewhere surely? Far more cerebral than merely "getting it done", or "going all in". Yes, the long haul is what it's all about. Sadly it often takes that initial commitment to actually realise that all of those benefits are real and then enjoy them. I am sure smiling and saying hello to people does more than just cheer me up. Comparison, as "The Running Channel" say, is the thief of joy!! Well done. As soon as Oz opens up I'm coming up there !!
Thanks so much, Al. That means a lot. You’re right, although the channel motto is find the joy I do wonder whether that’s enough. I want my own 😂 something like in it for the long run as it has a double meaning 🤔😊
@@ThisMessyHappy well, to be fair, "going all in", and "getting it done", could be misconstrued if one is of that mind. Find the joy is a perfectly well meaning phrase, however, it does seem to lack that pizzazz..... maybe "F@#k the Snooze Button"
Great video. Been training for my first marathon and injured my knee which has killed my motivation. As you say, injuries happen. Now I need to adjust the plan. Thanks!!
So inspiring! Glad I didn’t sleep in this morning and went for an hour run. I admit that I do hit the snooze button a lot though. But will try my best. Cheers!
I wish there was a ❤️ button instead of a 👍 button. You have no idea how much I needed to heard what you said lately, especially.....Get up. Get out. And get it! I'll be very honest, I've been struggling a lot lately and haven't been for a run in a while. People keep asking me how I'm doing with my running and keep telling me how I'm inspiring them....but I've realized, especially with watching this is at some point I stopped running for me and was doing it for others and my brain went "Nope not doing this for you!" and as I said I've not run in a while. Time to get back to me. Winter is coming in Canada and last year was the first time ever that I ran during the winter and I absolutely loved it! So thank you again for this video and keep doing what you love for you! ❤️
Thanks so much, Jackie. And I’m glad it resonated. I made that video to help because I believe in it so passionately. You have to do it for you. Once you look after yourself you can look after others too. More power to you and I hope you have a joyful winter of running 😊👍🏻
@@ThisMessyHappy resonated to the core, same as with your other videos. Your style and running in general helps me reconnect to my grandfather, he's been gone a long time, but his running genes are there. He was a marathon runner during the war. All the best to the 3 of you. Love how Winnie watches you 2 while running 🤗

Comparing yourself ONLY to who you were yesterday, and to no one else, is one of life's great lessons 👍

Great video. I love the "if you run you are a runner" message. Heard it first on your channel and it really resonates.

And I still tune into the vlogs and really look forward to them, let’s be real ☺️
Thank you Ben and Mary, for all of your hard work and for sharing your fitness journey and life with us (so excited and intrigued by Thailand - would love to visit myself one day. Never say never!). Sorry I’ve babbled on about myself, I just hope that my story reaches you with love and gratitude ❤️🌻 ps give Winnie a good pet from me, she gives me lots of reasons to smile during the vlogs!
This is just like a love letter to running. This is great! ❤
One of the best video from you guys, so inspiring ,thank you for this
Oh wow! Thank you so much 😊
This is my favorite video!!! Don’t hit the snooze button! Take out the headphones! Wave to everyone, even if they don’t wave back! ❤
Hell yes! 🤟🏼🤟🏼
One of the best videos you guys have made….i recommend it to everyone i know…..I am a runner thanks largely to you guys
I'm only fairly new to running but what you say here pretty much sums up my views on running.
Thank you so much 😊👍🏻
I’m
Pretty sure this is the most calming video I’ve ever watched.
Ha ha and my excellent Barry White voice recorded under a duvet 🥵😂
I absolutely LOVE this! You guys are awesome and have helped make my running journey fulfilling, enjoyable and inspired. Thank you for all you do!
Love this video, awesome. Brilliantly put together, well done Ben. Oh and I particularly enjoyed Mary locking you out of your own hotel room!!
Ha ha yes she did didn’t she! Did you see Winnie waiting at the door like some anxiety ridden collie as well?! 😂
Great VLOG with an important message. Love this!
Thank you, Chris. That’s really appreciated 😊👍🏻
Thank you so much, Mike. This means a lot. Old school PE teachers have a lot to answer for!! But I’m glad you’re on your journey now 👍🏻😊
Brilliant video - just brilliant!
Thanks so much. That’s so kind of you to say and you’ve nailed it with your own take on it as well. Outcomes are the by-product 💪🏻😊
this really needs more than 9K views!!!! Well done guys ♥
I need goals. Reach a goal and set a new one.
Hemmingway wrote...nobility is not feeling noble to your fellow man but true nobility is feeling noble to your former self. Loved this video...if this channel could be bottled you will make a fortune!
Thanks Gary. Wise words right there 😊 really appreciate your kind words, as always
Thank you for this, really. I truly appreciate it; such a motivating message for me. I’m rediscovering my love for running and so happy I found your channel. Thank you..
What a beautiful video with such a thought provoking message. Thank you. I am new to your channel and I love it.
That was an amazing testimonial to the power of perspective and your love of running. Keep shining that light!
Thank you so much, guys. That means a lot 😊
"Compare yourself to no one. The only person you have to be better than is you yesterday." 🧡🏃🏻♂️
Truth right there 💪🏻😊
I loved that Ben. So much thought provoking stuff. So inspiring
Thanks so much Steve. It was a little different so I didn’t know how it would go but very positive reviews so far!! 😊👍🏻
What a great video Ben... Amazing advice... really makes you think..smile..and want to enjoy every day that we can run.. as one day we wont be able to. Keep the wisdom coming, inspiring stuff 😁
thanks so much for making a video about the true essence of being a lifelong runner
Thank you also for taking the time to write a nice comment 😊👍🏻
Great video Ben & Mary, loved it
Amazing video Ben.
I loved this video! Great short film
This was great, very powerful!
Thanks so much, Matt 💪🏻😊
Yes! That's what I'm talking about.
Boom 💥 thanks Dave 😊
That was amazing!
Thanks so much, Pauline. That means a lot. I’ve had such nice feedback about this video. Really appreciate it 👍🏻😊
Brilliant Ben descypline & constance .. snooze button not exist for me..
Nice work, Rob. You got this 💪🏻
Thankyou I needed that today :)
Thanks Mal. Appreciate that 😊👍🏻
Love this so much!!! Thankyou for putting this together guys ❤️🥰
Thanks so much, Leigh. I really appreciate that 😊
If there is one thing I hate more than getting up at a ridiculous time to get my run in before work, it's NOT getting up to do it. I am probably lucky that any time I don't feel like making an effort my mind jumps in to action and reminds me how good I am going to feel. The buzz of a fresh body and a clear mind after a run is always worth it. Great video!
Thanks Billy! And well put. You always feel worse not doing than doing! Doing is the key 😂
For me, one of your best ever videos!
Let your light shine, as you do your unconsciously give other people permission to do the same!
Thanks Chris! That’s very kind of you. Yep, love that poem!! Hope you’re well, buddy? 😊👍🏻
@@ThisMessyHappy I’m good thank you. Set my sights on a sub 3:30 marathon so if you want to do a video on that I wouldn’t complain 😂
Love love loved this ❤️
Thanks so much, that really means a lot to me 😊👍🏻
I loved and needed this
You spoke volumes there Ben.
Thank you, James. I really appreciate that 😊
One of my Top 5 favorite AND most useful videos! What a great piece guys!! Love it!!
Ahhh thanks Alex. That really means a lot coming from one of my own inspirations 😊
You are definitely the best documentary video runner! Loved this immensely!❤Give us more.👍
Oh wow thank you so much Beverly 😊👍🏻
Ha ha 😂
Thank you for this x
Yeah! Loved this.
Loved this video! Full of words of wisdom thank you.
Ahh thank you Susan 😊
Excellent video! Great advice. It has to be made a part of your life and yes you need to love it!
Thanks Jana! Yes you gotta love it! Thanks for the comment 😊
Thanks to this channel I started running outdoors. I thought I hated running turns out I just hate running on the treadmill 😂
Well that was brilliantly different. 👏👏👏
Thanks Stuart! That’s really appreciated 😊
Love this concept and video format!
Thanks James. That’s so kind. It was totally inspired by Van Neistat. Amazing video he did about running.
Great video. Been training for my first marathon and injured my knee which has killed my motivation. As you say, injuries happen. Now I need to adjust the plan. Thanks!!
Thanks Andrew. Yes absolutely right. Setbacks happen. Adapt. Overcome 💪🏻 you got this 😊
Amazing vlog! Well done! Perfectly said and put together. Probably one of the best vlog I've seen in a LONG time.
Oh wow! Thank you so much. I’m blown away by the response to this. Will definitely be doing more like it in the future 😊
So inspiring! Glad I didn’t sleep in this morning and went for an hour run.
I admit that I do hit the snooze button a lot though. But will try my best. Cheers!
Ha ha yes get rid of that snooze button! Thank you so much though 😊👍🏻
Nicely done Ben! Very motivational! Great vid 👍🏻
Thank you so much, Robert. That means a lot 😊👍🏻
Probably one of your best videos, top advice 👌 It could of been the Baz Luhrmanns “Everybody’s free(to wear sunscreen) of 2021!
This was a lovely message. The snooze button really resonated with me, as I am a quintessential snoozer.
Well stop it!! 😂 only kidding. As long as you’re getting out there it’s all good 😊
Love this. Brilliant 👍☀️
Thanks so much, Lindsey 😊👍🏻
What a great video…thank you 👊🏾
Thank you so much too. That’s so kind 😊👍🏻
Do you get any hills in Thailand? Looks pretty flat.
There are… just not where we are! It’s actually nice running on a bit of flat for the time being 😂
This week's vid feels like an Art-house movie.
Ha ha perfect 😊👍🏻😂
Love how Winnie watches you 2 while running
🤗
Great vlog. I run for me, it's my self care.
💯 buddy! Same for me. I need to look after myself so I can look after other people 😊👍🏻
Thank you.
Likewise. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment 👍🏻😊
The key of progress is strict routine.... and I swear by it.... that include nutrition after your run too..... did I mention a sleep pattern 😆 😅 😂
Great vid.
Hey Ben and Mary! Great message with a few laughs as usual. Who doesn't like a few good punches in the legs every now and again?
Ha ha we all do… sparingly 😂 thanks Ted 😊
❤❤❤ this! 🙌
Thank you, Justine 😊 that’s really appreciated 🤟🏼
Amazing
