  • Running is such. a simple sport but can be unnecessarily confusing with so many words meaning the same thing. I'm even hearing new words for things all of the time. So let's simplify and talk through the run sessions/terminologies you should know (cut through the confusion)

    Cool video Ben. Yeah I agree with you -- people are constantly changing the names of different workouts. I really think doing Strides after many of my easy runs has made a world of difference. As I've gotten older, my stride length and rate has gone down the tubes, but the strides keep everything ticking. What a beautiful dog as well. Glad you were able to get them rescued. I rescue / feed abandoned / feral cats on my route. I managed to get one rescued on New Years Eve before the storms hit and got him off to a nice family. I wanted to keep him but I've already got a bunch of rescues.

    Welcome to the family Jessie!! Looking forward to seeing more of you!!
    Thanks for the education of the types of runs. Intervals haven't gotten into my training yet mainly because of access to a place to get them done. Running in a lower zone is the hardest thing to remember to do on a recovery or long run. Thanks for all the information!!

    After watching this video I actually wonder. Like do I have the right zones. I did the Lactate Threashold test and well, if I run in my Tempo zone that is actually the zone that seems most comfortable to me. 🤔 I have been running (slow 2,5 hours) half marathon in mostly this zone just for fun and it actually goes even to zone 4 sometimes - (which feels uncomfortable so I slow down). I do not run with anybody, so I do not have conversations (talking to myself might be a bit weird 🤨) and due to a medical situation in my nose (and also slight deficiency in my lungs) I have sometimes difficulties to breathe through my nose when walking, especially when running/walking on sand or dusty ground, so I cannot really rely on that. So I am a bit confused now. 😳 But thank you very much for that video and all of the other ones as well. They help and motivate a lot 💪🥰 and such a cute puppy 😍

    Pete Magill's rule of intervals should be mentioned- always stop when you have feel like you have two more left in the tank.
    Otherwise great video.

    Constant speed can be easy/zone2 or threshold/tempo (5k sub race effort). Interval can be threshold/tempo (2 x 4k, 3 x 3k?) or the 800/400s etc. What about a progression run? I think the long runs (zone2 or faster finish) are probably a separate classification. It's never simple, is it?

    Sunglass Ben seems a like an overconfident know-it-all. LOL! I've welcomed "Future Chad", "Voice Over Chad", and "Post Edit Chad" in my videos occasionally. Hahahaha! Great video Ben! Love how you structure your videos and how you keep the audience, like me, engaged!

    Or may be some long distance at zone 2... some thing I notice when a lot of my friends run lots of sub -6 minute miles all the time and loose there mo jo.....
    they have to start enjoying the run / routes so get out there socially, and do a zone 2 for a change

    • @ThisMessyHappy
      @ThisMessyHappy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s so true. Someone I know well used to actually get anxiety in the end after he felt he had to go out and run faster and faster each run!! 😳😂

  • @mamiekuykendall3966

    Why would over-unders be tempo instead of interval?

    • @ThisMessyHappy
      @ThisMessyHappy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because they’re at a tempo pace and there’s no actual stopping. To be fair, it’s all just how you use terminology. Intervals for me are periods of work and periods of rest. No right or wrong 😊

    I do my intervaltraining always Wednesday, so I call the day 'Kauhujen keskiviikko' as in Wednesday Horrow 😅
    I try to do 4 runs every week; one run about 3,5km to run how I feel, one intervallrun/tempo, one shorter easyrun and one longrun with easy pace and enjoying the nature.

    • @ThisMessyHappy
      @ThisMessyHappy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This year I made it a goal to run more trails. I live in Pennsylvania, which is in the Appalachian mountains, so running more trails sort of make all the runs one. Easy but with something like intervals on each of the uphills. All that changes is the time. Half hour run. Hour and a half run. Two hour run.

    • @ThisMessyHappy
      @ThisMessyHappy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Trails rock! And smash your feet up etc but mainly they’re awesome 😂😊
