    I mowed about that same amount of Lawn when I was a kid. Dad bought me a very nice 20" Craftsman Push Mower for my 10th Birthday. I got $1.00 dollar to mow approx. 2 acres every Saturday. It was a zero turn push mower though that I could turn on a dime. Life was Good back then! (For Dad)🤣

    I have a 1 acre lot with 35 trees and the X584 power 4 wheel steer is heavenly. The trees also bring lots to leafs so also have the bagger with remote dump. Perfect combo. Absolutely love this JD Might have gone with the X394 but also mowing 2 neighbors yards - Their husbands passed and they are in their 80. Its the right thing to do. Also this video did influence my decision to go with 4WS...... Great videos thanks

    I never understood why people make such a big deal about the "TIME" it takes to mow there is nothing more therapeutic and relaxing to go out into your Acres drink a couple of beers put your headsets play your favorite music and mow.. I never think about OMG this is going to take so much "Time"

    The test for distance to straight...there are situations where that will happen, but if you go around the outside perimeter and then down the middle and continue that pattern, you'll almost eliminate the need for a really sharp turn except for trimming. I just bought a 534, mainly for the differential lock up, and love the 4 wheel steer.

  • @HoneyBeagle
    @HoneyBeagle 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I bought a new x394 right at the end of summer as a dedicated lawn mower because I got tired of removing attachments from my sub compact to mow grass and then reattaching them over and over. The four wheel steer is a game changer, especially with all the trees I have in my yard. It feels a little weird at first but 5 minutes in I was good and honestly mowed my yard a half hour or better faster than I can with my sub that has a larger deck. The 394 is simply far more maneuverable than any lawn tractor I’ve ever owned. I get the guys that don’t care about speed because they enjoy mowing but I have a thousand other projects, kids, animals, and when I can interests of my own. Maybe someday I can say the same but not yet. Either way, very nice machine and I’m glad I got it.

    I tested the 4 wheel recently when I purchased my new JD. While I was impressed with the turning radius I felt I was constantly adjusting my steering when going straight and I thought the rear steering would be a “ trouble point” after a while. Didn’t seem worth the extra $ for me so I went with the 350 and couldn’t be happier..

    Great Video. I have owned two X304 42 inch deck mowers and they cut my property in the same time as my X300 48 inch deck does. I have 7 hours on average of grass to cut every 2 weeks. I sold both X304's because I made money on each of them. I prefer the 4 wheel steer even with the smaller deck as they are more fun to cut with. Less "turning back to finish" in the tight spots and tree wells.

    @WesternEquipment -- Is there any truth to another video's comments about x300 series 4 wheel steering:
    1) 4 wheel steering helps with hills
    2) The arms bend easier with rack and pinion steering.
    3) The steering gets sloppier after about 150 hours without the 4 wheel steering.
    I have 50-50 between hills and flat. I wasn't thinking about getting the 4 wheel steering until I read those comments.
    I did bend the arm of an older cub cadet that came with the property due to the hills.
    Glad I could practice on the Cub. 😂

    My main reason for getting 4wheel steering is snow blowing. The machine turns on a dime with 4ws. Two wheel steer and snowblowing is miserable trying to get turned around. Also getting unstuck with 4ws is much easier. I have a x324 I’ve had since 2011 and I just got a 2021 x394. I really love the power steering and hydraulic lift.

    My concerns with four wheel steering are the extra stuff to go wrong with it. My concern with four wheel drive without four wheel steering has less to do with the turning radius than with the propensity for four wheel drive to tear up the lawn in tight turns, particularly if the ground is soft as it often is here in upstate NY. My current lawn tractor is a Kubota GR2120 and without going into a long rant, it's not optimal, although it DOES have an AWD system that disengages the front drive on tight turns. So, my concerns remain..

    I posted a video around 8 years ago “John Deere x324 Turns Very Sharp”. You can see in my video as I tossed a glove or hat on the ground and did a circle around it. I thought I remember that the uncut circle from that mower was about 12”? Though I never mowed grass with it as I was selling it for my moms friends.

    With my S240 I use a method I call "orbiting." My first pass is as tight as I can get it then I make a wider sort of French curve to cover some area already done and change the angle I come back in. I won't go in reverse unless absolutely necessary. For the straight cuts if I want to continue progressively then I'll crank a hard left and back right. I may be some inches off, but hey, I'm on a riding mower! Usually I like to make the reverse tight and leave a strip undone so I''ll have strips on cut and uncut alternating. It's fun to come back and get each individual strip. Yes, I know I'm double cutting in most cases, but not going into reverse and adding stress by engaging so often helps... I think. Is that the recovered X320 you brought back to life?

    I'm looking at both models in the 500 series, but have been hearing about issues arising on the 4ws models and I'm now thinking to just keep it simple. The extra $1000 for the option is a bit much. I'm also not sure of paying an extra $1000 for EFI

  • @matthewvanderbeek1240
    @matthewvanderbeek1240 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Definitely worth the extra money.
    Save alot of time and u will save gas and wear on your machine because u won't be putting as many hours on it a year.
    And u have to look at resale.
    U will get more money back with one with four wheel steering.
    Easy choice.
    Advantage over a zero turn, is that u won't tear up the grass from turning and these work well on side hills as well.

    4 wheel steering can save time its far superior to Craftsman's 5 inch turning radius which tears up sod and slips when grass is wet or on a non paved driveway and add wear out faster and its a safety issue. How I know its a safety issue is I had a husqvarna 2348 in for repair the front wheels would slip when making a sharp turn my dads LA150 does the same thing. I like the X300 X500 and the 400 series 425 445 455.
