  • In this video I will show you how to change the oil in you manual gearbox.
    The procedure covers all of the following models:
    Renault Trafic Vauxhall Vivaro / Opel Vivaro Nissan Primastar
    My van has the 6 speed manual transmission and is a 2006 Renault Trafic with the 1.9 dci engine
    This procedure is recommended for vehicles without any gearbox oil leaks as I simply drain and refill the amount removed from the Gearbox
    The amount used should be between 2.7 and 3.0 litres
    Hope you enjoy this and find it helpful

    Gear box oil is done today.Thx so much for video and question how many mounts have engine 1.9 and how replacement and tight with torque I mean Nm.Thx

      @TheKeenMechanic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good job. Glad you got the job done. Can you explain again what you meant as I didn't understand your question about the engine? Do you mean the engine mounts that hold the engine to the chassis and gearbox? I have never replaced them but had to remove them a few times and they were ok. I torques them by hand with normal ratchet. Just go good and tight and don't overtighten

    Hello, thanks for sharing, but in the manual it says to add 2.7l of transmission oil and in the measurement you have done, that amount also appears to be less than 3l. greetings

      I have rebuilt the gearbox recently and will show the whole process on the channel. I have also managed to buy an original gearbox dipstick from a closing down dealership and will show the exact process for checking the oil lever and exact quantity from dry and wet fill. Hope this will help many people out there

      thank you so much! I'm having trouble engaging first gear and I have to press the clutch 2 times. From what I have been able to verify, it seems that I have a small fluid leak in the pedal master cylinder. I have to look for a DIY to change it and by the way I wanted to take advantage of changing the gearbox oil. Greetings

      You don't remove the front of the van!! You remove the passenger side wheel... remove a small plastic cover and the filling hole if there!! This video is bad... he hasn't mentioned about the quantity of 2.6l, (always double check this), as these van's filling hole should never let he new oil overflow, as lots of other cars' / vans' as there is a sticker there to tell you not to do so!! You can even fill the gearbox, from beneath!!!

      I bought a manual pump , it looks like a giant syringe with a pipe on the end , I drained the old oil and then removed the plastic plug from underneath and put the hose in and pumped the oil up , was easy but the gearbox rattle is still there …… put it is quieter

    That oil you use elf 75/80 in my opinion is the worst oil you can put in a gearbox it to thin few years ago I changed the oil in the gearbox that worked fine I put that oil in gearbox drove for 40 mile and the gearbox seized up when the Rac came I told them that I just changed the gearbox oil so we thought it possibly that is the problem he drained the oil out and put Commer gearbox oil in we Rocked the van back and forth to get it free because it was completely seized but we got it moving started the engine and from then on the gearboxes work fine the problem was the oil which I bought from a Renault dealer. So I thought it's worth mentioning that people don't use that oil

    • @TheKeenMechanic

      Hi
      I drove more than 10k miles and never had any issues. Few years later i was changing driveshafts and lost some of the oil, I wanted to buy the same ELF oil but it was discontinued so I put Mannol 75/90 and no issues.

    How to open that top plug?
    You just bypassed that.
    Basically I can see everything else for myself, I just don't want to damage this top pipe

    • @TheKeenMechanic
      @TheKeenMechanic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. The top filler hose has a cap. Just remove the plastic cap and insert a small funnel to pour the oil. I inserted an extra clear rubber pipe in the filler pipe for better access and to make it easier to film. Hope this helps🔧🔩🤝

    • @mahatmacote6478
      @mahatmacote6478 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheKeenMechanic ok thanks, I took it off alright and it reveals a fairly small 'nipple' for filling.
      However..... I accessed the side cap and saw the oil is clean and clear, and was spilling out a little, so no refilling needed.
      I have a 2nd gear that rarely engages without cogs scraping and grinding, so was thinking it might be low on oil.... so it's still a mystery.

      set the pump up on a small trolley with a battery, 5 to 6 L container, the pump will come with a 6mm ID pipe, that won't suck oil be there all day throw it away, it's simple the pipe goes into your oil the other end up into hole flick a switch job done, we set up this for doing jcbs, now we use it all the time especially after changing a clutch on cars and vans, but any pump will do not just this one from Amazon, cant remember when we bought our pump from but I was about 20 years ago, I think I seen one in the lidl or Aldi's the other day
