  • A trip to mountainous Tam Dao, Vietnam. During this motorbike trip we checked on the castle, Tay Thien temple and Silver waterfall. A perfect spot for a short city getaway. Two hours ride by car or motorbike and you're in an absolutely different climate zone! Definitely worth a visit if you're tired of Hanoi, but don't want to go too far.

    I’m booked to travel in the north of VN in Oct. This vid popped up in my search. Thx for the info! That gave me a really good sense of what to expect as I have a day booked in Tam Dao at the bear Sanctuary, but it seems like another day of exploring locally may be worth while. 🙂
    Will check out your other vids.

      Oh thanks! Yeah Tam Dao is nice.
      Though my recommendation would be that you go there before reaching SaPa or Ha Giang. Tam Dao is lovely but it certainly loses in comparison with other spots in the north.
      I once made this mistake and went to BaBe lake after touring around Ha Giang. And well after that mind blowing beauty of Ha Giang , Ba Be lake didn’t really impress me😅 And it’s not because it’s not worth a visit, but mainly because Ha Giang experience was overshadowing anything else I saw afterwards 😂

    I was there last December, was a lovely place, very quiet, lots of construction on the outskirts, 10 years time it’ll be a popular mountainous destination.

      Yeah pretty much. It’s got a potential. I feel a bit sad that it won’t be quaint and quiet any more but well I guess that’s the inevitable

    Charming place, I was there recently, but you are right, the heavy construction & commercial activities is spoiling the real beauty of this place. Language is again a big challenge here and I had a tough time talking to the locals for any assistance related to food or directions. Overall a good vlog, nice to watch.

    • @alrightanton

      Thanks! Yeah, that place left me with a similar slightly confused feeling. Like it's nice, beautiful and all, but then there're all those things that try to spoil the place in a way. I heard that places like that are best to visit with locals as they would show the nicest spots and the best food. To be honest I sometimes feel that I miss out on 70% of all vietnamese food and entertainment just because I don't know the language

    • @alrightanton
      @alrightanton  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey hey, thanks for a comment!☺️ Well riding a motorbike in Vietnam is never safe😂 But as for Tam Dao I wouldn’t say that the road is highly dangerous. It’s a mountain road so it’s pretty windy which can by quite tricky for novice riders. But then the road quality is really good so no complaints there!

    • @alrightanton
      @alrightanton  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey hey, yeah you defo should go there! Though I don't think that they have grab there. The place is so tiny so that I don't think grab wanted to invest in it. I could easily cycle around. Walking is possible too but probably not the best option. I think we saw some guys offering a ride there, to I don't think that commuting should be a big problem there.

      @@AshOoolala Yeah, it's not too big. Well generally the rule is that Asian cities and towns are not really made for walking. But Tam Dao is okay. It may take a little longer than you may want but defo not too much. Also the have their own taxi services as far as I remember, so that getting a cab shouldn't be a bit problem.

    That castle does look like, but I find it alarming and disturbing how much of the "French" style stuff they are putting up...especially when they are most likely blasting the beautiful mountains or leveling them to put up these artificial European style stuff...I think it's a travesty what they did with Ba Na Hills (golden bridge is beautiful, but the faux French and European villages are too much). I think they need to re-evaluate and start considering the natural beauty of the land and finding someone who can build quality stuff that will fit in with the landscape and minimize damage to the environment...quit bulldozing the mountains to put up amusement parks all over the damn country!!

    • @alrightanton
      @alrightanton  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah totally agree with you there. SaPa is already kinda destroyed with its flashy silly hotels. It’s a shame that Vietnamese government is not really trying to preserve the natural beauty of their country. If they keep on milking it there won’t be that much left.
      The same thing may happen to Tam Dao. The whole town is one big construction site right now…

    • @doodahgurlie
      @doodahgurlie ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alrightanton The biggest travesty is Ba Na Hills...egads! I mean, I LOVE the golden bridge as it's beautiful and unique, but then they built all the fake European crap. Vietnam does not need a freakin' amusement park in every city! Leave the nature intact, already. I mean, think about it, the US has 3-4x the population of Vietnam, yet ONE Disney World and ONE Disneyland that people the world over flock to. Why does Vietnam think it needs that many amusement type parks for that size of a population?!? It's just stupid, gaudy, tacky, etc.

    • @alrightanton
      @alrightanton  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@doodahgurlie Yeah I totally agree with you here. The number of entertainment parks in Vietnam just blows my mind, and I don't understand why they need that many of them. And as you said most of it feels rather fake and tacky.
      Having said that I'm actually planning to go to Ba Na Hills this august to see all that "travest" myself. The pictures of it do look good, but most probably I will be quite disappointed by the surrounding infrastructure, that's for sure😅

    • @doodahgurlie
      @doodahgurlie ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alrightanton I was discussing the tackiness of all the faux European cities and some Viets said it's built for the Vietnamese folks and those Asians (Thais and such) whom will never get to see Europe. I'm thinking, okay, whatever...at least make it look more real/authentic instead of like a theme park and don't build one in every damn town! But I guess it makes it an all-inclusive thing if you include everything in the package. A one-stop trip, per se.

    • @alrightanton
      @alrightanton  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@doodahgurlie Well fair point but then yeah, it would make sense to build one, okay max two "Europe-like" towns just for entertainment purposes. But then now it's like everywhere... Well maybe I should stop complaining as it is certainly not built for the foreigners, just strikes me every time of how weird it all looks like.😅
