Today at Alf's Mustang Garage, we are calculating the correct speedometer driven gear for our 1967 Ford Mustang. In this video we show you how to determine if you have an open differential or a limited slip differential. Then we calculate the rear axle ratio. Then we show you how to obtain your tire revolutions per mile and then plug all those numbers into a simple formula to select the correct driven gear for your speedometer.
We show you the procedure for gear ratio calculation, speedometer gear calculation, and show you how to determine if you have an open differential or a posi-trac differential.

Another great video. I like your way better then mine. I pull out my box of Speedo gears, and blindly pick one, take the car for a ride and see how close I am to what’s reading on the speedometer app on my phone lol.

2014 ford f-150 ecoboost 3.5.... I change the G.D ratio from 3.73 to 4.10, now im plus 10mph on my speed.... We reprogram the speedometer with the ford obd scanner, but it did not fix it.... Can some one help Plz :(
This probably isn't the best place to ask for help on something like that. I work primarily with old stuff from the 60's that is all mechanical. Maybe consult with your local Ford dealer to see if they are capable of reprogramming it.
I put 3.83 gears, trutrac 9" in my 67 Coupe with a C4 trans. What speedometer gear would you suggest?
What is your tire size?

So you kinda need to know how many drive teeth are on the output shaft of that transmission. This is hard to tell because the teeth are machined into the output shaft. But essentially if it has 6 teeth, the math tells you to run a 18 tooth speedo gear. If it has 7 teeth, the math tells you to run a 21 tooth. Hope that helps.

Just drove away after changing from 3.92 lsd to a Detroit trutrac 4.56. No speed reading on speedometer.

Figured I’d ask the old guy that did it next work day Monday what I need to do to fix it. It worked when I dropped it off.

@@AlfsMustangGarage 2004 Dodge Ram SLT Rumble bee. Factory was 3.92 I changed out the gear and pinion to 4.56 and also the lsd is now true trac. I noticed no speedometer reading about 5 miles away when merging onto the highway.
