Welcome to the ultimate guide to Ultimaker Cura 5 for beginners! In this ultimate guide for beginners, we'll take you through all the steps you need to know to get started with 3D printing using Ultimaker Cura. If you're new to 3D printing and have just set up your 3D printer, this guide is perfect for you.
First off, I'll explain what Cura is and why it's important to use a 3D slicer like Cura for 3D printing. We'll also go over the different software options available and show you how to download and set up Ultimaker Cura for your 3D printer.
Once you're all set up, I'll guide you through the process of opening a file, resizing and moving the 3D model, and changing the display mode and color scheme. We'll also cover the different types of filament available and which one is best for your first print.
Next, I'll show you how to identify areas that need support structures, prepare your model for print, and slice it using Cura. We'll explain the different settings you need to know, such as quality, infill, shell thickness, support, and build plate adhesion. I'll also give you tips on catching fails before you print and saving your file to disk.
Finally, I'll guide you through your first print and explain how to use pre-set printer profiles and create custom ones. We'll wrap up with a summary of the steps and how to start with simple prints.
If you're new to 3D printing or Ultimaker Cura, this guide is a must-watch.

I am a noobie and been pouring through tutorials. This is the best one of them all. Dude you are a gifted teacher. Looking forward to going through your library!
Wow. Thanks a lot. I’m really happy to hear I could help you! Best of luck with your prints!
Facts! Thank you for this!
Well stated! He is a gifted teacher :)
Great Service to all the beginners in the world in 2023‼️ On behalf… Thank You‼️🙏😃
Thank you! I’ll do whatever I can to help people get into this amazing hobby!
I have been an instructor for 34 years and let me say that you are a natural. Your way of teaching is as complete as I have seen. You are so comfortable talking to the camera and your explanations are to the point. I just started learning about 3D printing. Your numerous videos on 3D printers, Tinkercad, Cura and most important, your video on what can and will go wrong and how to troubleshoot it, are OUTSTANDING!!! Thank you for sharing with the rest of us.
Wow. You made my day. Thank you so much for all the kind words. Teaching is my passion. I hope one day I can just do this and teach everything about this awesome hobby.
A good introduction for people new to 3D printing. Just a couple of comments:
1. Shell thickness - in Cura 5 (and other slicers using Arachne engine), it is possible to print walls which are narrower or wider than the nozzle size. But that's for more advanced users.
2. Tree supports can actually use more filament than normal supports; it depends on the model.
3. Saving files - it's good practice (particularly for projects with multiple prints) to include estimated time and filament usage in the file name as it helps with organising your printing schedule, eg Gecko_4h06m_172g
Thanks for the comments.
Putting estimated time and filament usage in the file name is a great idea! Thanks!
Your tutorials are by far the most helpful ive watch. Being new to 3d printing your videos are very much appreciated
As a total beginner your video is invaluable to me. Great content, well thought out and clearly articulated. Many thanks for all the time and effort that you put in to your videos..
Second that!
This was so helpful to me! As a beginner I now have the confidence to print my first file from Cura thanks to you!!!
I have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone starting out. Excellent presentation, as always.
Thanks so much. It was a big one to work on. Lots of work but it would be worth it if we can just get more person in the hobby 🤩
I have been printing for sometime and just make sure is was flat to the baseplate. I never found the right video to simply explain Cura. Being older finding out how things work in a simple way is brilliant. Loved this video so now will try more in the settings, the supports trees and touching build plate helps a lot.
Thank you so much. This is super helpful. You do a great job teaching this at a basic level but keeping it moving so as not to feel like you are feeling too long on any one topic.
Awesome, thank you! I’m glad it was helpful
This is by far the best tutorial that I have seen. Thank you so much for your time. I learned SO much!!
I just bought my first 3d printer. an ender 3 s1 pro, and I have been looking for a great tutorial on Cura. I have to say this is a top-notch guide and I learned so much from it. I will be checking out as much of your stuff that I can. I wish more people made in depth videos like this. It's so hard to follow some of these other videos because I think they forget that if your new to this you might not know what the hell there talking about. AWSOME JOB!!! I can't wait to learn more. # new subscriber!
Great video. I've been 3D printing for over 5 years and I still picked up some good information from this video. That's what I love about this hobby.. you never stop learning.
Thanks so much. That’s great I could help someone with that much experience!
I have watched so many video tutorials I was becoming extremely overwhelmed. Most of them just say “adjust this setting” but don’t explain how. Your going in depth for the different settings is immensely helpful. Thank you!

That’s great glad I could help give some new info!
Excellent ❤
Thanks Bro !
I watched this video/tutorial A few times and I still didn't take in all the information.
Great work 👏 I'm a novice and this helped me a SH!T ton.
I just bought an Ender 3 V3 SE, still in the box, and this is great info.
Chris, I watched your Cura tutorial a few month ago and I followed all your suggestions and it improved the print quality a little on my Ender 3 v2 printer however it still wasn't great. I recently purchase and Ender 3 v3 ke which with the Creality slicer. Long story short, the print quality of designs that I slice with the creality slicer are sooo much better. It's like day and night.
Superb thank you so much 👍
