      Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you appreciate it; snow can make a simple run very arduous, rough, and downright slow at times. Especially if it's a heavy, and wet snow.

    Neat watching this at 8pm Dec19 and listening to the freight train going from Boston to Maine out my window at the same time, it has 5 crossings all within 2mi of my house

      It's 12 cars. It doesn't need another unit. That'd be stupid. Even with that unit, that's over a 1.0 HpT. And it's not even a heavy train.

    Pulling heavy train uphill and with the tracks slippery from snow is the issue, hope he has plenty of sand. should have had two locos, preferably one in the rear where it can enjoy relatively dry rail.

      That happens everywhere, an AC4400CW has 4400 horsepower and weighs 426,000 lb, they can go through builtup snow like butter

      i live in canada, i'm used to snow on the roads.. its no big deal. If a train plows into a pile on snow, there isn't much of the pile left to cause problems and what there is my truck handles fine. Better this than an avalanche.

    I grew up in Roseville and know that section of track very well. I lived in the neighborhood to the south east of Snelling and Co Rd C. Brings back sone great memories!

    Some crossings build up so much ice the trains have to go slow or else derail. Besides that it's not that much for one engine to tow.

    5:31 lol at the train pushing the packed snowbank onto the railroad crossing. Probably forced drivers to switch lanes to avoid the thick packed snow and give the mayor a nasty email or phone call :)

      There is a plow on the front of the pilot sheet and besides the snow isn’t that deep. He’s going uphill, restricted to a low speed and is pulling a somewhat heavy load.

      They do, and daily. The also have a growing fleet of B39s as well.

    #48 is a GE B30-7 built in the late 1960s. GE manufactured the B30s to compete with EMD's GP40 line. This 3,000 horsepower veteran was originally an SLSF (Frisco) unit.
    Even with its 3k horses, a Jordan spreader would have been the ideal apparatus to be used.

    Anyone remember the MNS line(Minneapolis Northfield & Southern)? Is it still in service today?

      Thanks for the comment! While the entire MN&S line is still intact, only parts of it still see service daily. The portion north of Bloomington gets service from CP and Progressive Rail. The tracks that go from Lakeville, and south of there, are also operated by Progressive Rail.

      He’s just trying to follow the rules by blowing horn all the way through the crossing like he’s supposed to. Maybe he’s being extra sure he’s being safe since there is a dude standing there filming him work. He could lose his job for doing that incorrectly.

      They run a good operation; it just got hampered by HEAVY and wet snow along their entire route, and the first train along the line can have some issues. Winter always makes things interesting for ANY railroad; class ones and short lines alike.

    Scab railroad. That used to be a union job for a union worker . Making a living for his family. You have companies like the CP RAIL ROAD short lining their railroad forcing their employees to either quit or take a huge pay cut and work for a shit company like this one .

      As the son and grandson of union men, I am grateful for what they do, but at the end of the day the customer drives the market. The union shop has to offer something to the customer that makes paying the premium worth it.
