Colorful, Old School, Minnesota Commercial's GE's -AMAZING K5LA Horn-

  • The Minnesota Commercial has LONG been known for its ALCo fleet, but with those now all gone, old GEs now rule the rails. While most of their fleet wears a classy coat of red paint, new additions to the roster have made things quite colorful!
In the last year, they acquired a former TTI unit, which has a nice white, and blue paint scheme. About ten years ago, they picked up a former LMX B39-8E. While the paint is now over ten years old, it is still holding up well. When that locomotive goes by you'll see its missing a screen over its rear radiator. Lastly, we'll have a unit which wears paint well over 20 years old, MNNR 48. We'll follow this cool looping trio on the Belt Job as it runs up to New Brighton, puts on a show, and works its way back down the line.

It reminds me of a passenger locomotive. When I hear its horn, I instantly know what unit it is. Thanks for watching!

You and me both; the TTI was such a neat operation. I have heard they still exist, but only operate as a transload RR these days.

I like older GEs such as U boats, Dash 7s, and standard cab Dash 8s.

I like 48 with those red number boards

76 has that MoPac blue color to it. Surprised it was a previous Seaboard locomotive.

Its still wearing its former TTI paint, and I hope so for quite a while longer. Its a nice change compared to the normal Minnesota Commercial Red.

Going up to Minneapolis next month. What is the usual schedule/operating practices of the MC and what are some good places to catch the action?

Good Morning! I would suggest checking out the Minnesota Commercial and Minnesota Railroads FB page. Typically, most jobs go on duty at or around 0700 each day. During the week, the Hugo works Tues (0700), Thurs (0700), and Sun (0900). During the week, M-F, the Belt Job should go to work at 0700. This also applies to the Hennepin Job, but that only runs M-W-F. Hope this helps!

Honestly I hope they just repaint her with the blue and white and just add the Minnesota Commercial logo on it.

Some classy Minnesota Commercial lettering in place of a full paint job would be pretty neat!

Its an all GE railroad now; all of their ALCo's are dead, drained, and waiting to be sold/sent to a new owner.
