      Thanks for watching. I enjoy your channel as well. 😀👍 Question for you: Are you getting any sense that common date pre-33 gold is being melted down since this increase in the spot price? Just wondering if common date gold might get hard to find in the future. thanks

    • @CampbellsCoins
      @CampbellsCoins 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Ontario100 I can't answer to if they are actually being melted down but I have noticed a lot of pre33 in the last two months in AU shape or lower being sold for melt. Heck I saw three double eagles in BU for melt. It wouldn't surprise me if people were melting them down but what a shame if they were. Strictly speaking in gold, I see the premium holding for grades MS63 and up. Depending on year of course.

    i think only the Walking liberty half comes anywhere near the beauty of the St. Gaudens, in particular, i personally like the eagle on the reverse of the silver half a bit more. However , that is one beauty of a coin you have there !!

    Great example. Problems with the relief caused a myriad of problems for everyone involved with the making of this coin. Eventually the low relief version most people have was actually re engraved by Charles Barber to bring out details lost in the poor reduction of a "too large" model used in the Janvier reduction lathe. Ultimately, I think he did a pretty good job. Although Barber is not one of my favorite mint employees. 😀

      Being an ex-machinist,I know of this.It was a pantograph lathe,which allowed artists to make bigger designs and it would machine the dies down to the desired size.They were used for a long time until CNC's made it even easier

    I have a 1923 20 dollars gold coin, anyone knows how much it worth ?

    • @Ontario100
      @Ontario100  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to say, but there are many fakes out there. The coin would need to be authenticated. (slabbed) If it is real, gold is at $1,850, so the melt value of the coin is $1,790. ($1,850 X .967= $1,790) Has the coin already been slabbed? If so, what is the grade? A Mint State coin would be worth more. A high mint state (65 or higher) much more. I hope this helps. 👍
