Hi Matty. No matter what, you could always do with a bigger machine. I hope its some years before you outgrow your new lathe. Great to see the progress and growth of your home machine shop. Tony
Gday, hope your going well mate, I really happy with the size of the lathe, I have the length now and the rigidity, I’m really looking forward to filling the chip tray, take care mate, cheers Matty
Nice Lathe Matty. Stripped the gear in my apron, auto feeding out on large diameter, hit the stop and crunch, made new gear and put brass pin in feed shaft coupler, hope that shears before damaging apron gears.
Gdasy Willem, thats a great idea to use a brass sheer pin, maybe thats what they should have from new, my new lathe has a clutch on the shaft that feeds the apron, hopefully ill never get to use that clutch, cheers Matty
Sharp looking Lathe Matty. Hope convincing the Wife that its was a necessary investment worked out for you. Can hardly wait to see the oil can project, I think you do top notch work in your little shop, Cheers !
Thanks very much Jim for the kind words, it really didn’t take much convincing at all, that’s a worry really, just have to wait and see what the future brings😂, hopefully won’t be to long and I’ll have a machining video out on the oil can build, I’m still waiting for some bits for the valve body to arrive then I can see if everything is going to work as it should, cheers Matty
Oh man! What a great machine! As for putting the compressor outside, great idea in my opinion. I have been on a kick of trying to kick things out of the garage lately. Plus might keep things much quieter
Hi Matt, the new lathe looks brilliant! I turned green supping my pint watching this, I can't wait to see it in action. Keep safe mate, Glyn in England.
Happy new Lathe, looks perfect size to compliment your mills etc, yes big difference between Taiwan manufacturers and Chinese. Layout looks good. Thanks for sharing.
The shop is complete for now, I don’t think I will ask the wife for another machine anytime soon🤣, hopefully with a bit of luck there will be a video out soon’ish on the oil can build..
Man, the shop's looking awesome, you've got quite the spread there now! You'll need to make sure you have 60A service out there do the boys can be apprenticing under you! You'll like the 12x36 lathe, they are a nice size. Popped over to Aaron's he's got some cool stuff on the go too, thanks for mentioning him.
Thanks Everrett, im really happy with the new lathe, im going to give the little lathe to the boy , they can learn on that one for now, Aaron is a really nice bloke, he has a brilliant workshop, way more flasher then mine😂..
Thank you so much for the shout out Matty. I hope you like the stickers and they look great sitting up on your cabinet. Congratulations on the new lathe mate that's awesome. I can a digital readout coming for it now. I agree, Taiwanese make a much better machine. Keep the videos coming mate. You're nearly at 1.5K now. Soon it will 2K and 10K. Cheers mate, Aaron.
Gday, I thought about the dro but I had to draw the line somewhere, it would have been nice but sadly couldn’t stretch the funds that far, I’d like to get a qctp first, just got to save a bit first...
Very Nice set up you have now Matty. I am sure you feel happy with what you have been able to build up. Nice to see a Brand New Lathe sitting in the shop, seems Christmas came early for you. Of course Loved the letter opening at the start of the video. Unfortunately i am one of those also stuck in Stalag Melbourne. Finally some good news for us in Melbourne today well sort of ?? After the Melbourne Cup weekend we can start to get back to being able to travel. Cafes and Retail open again this Wednesday. Thankfully life is slowly returning to normal again. Your Not wrong about 2020 being a crap year. I was thinking the number 2020 might be a good thing. How wrong i was ???? I am sure you went inside the house a happier man after setting up your New Lathe. Looks great sitting there too. All the Best to you Matty. Regards Peter.
Gday Peter, I’m really happy with the new lathe, the workshop is complete now and I should be able to make what ever I like, I really hope the world goes back to normal soon, it must be a real pain being in lockdown, we have been lucky here that’s for sure, I can’t wait for 2020 to be gone,
Bloody hell Matty, you win the lottery or something!😂 Seriously, that's a very nice looking machine, as Peter said below, be great if you could do a video going through it's features and specs. The oil can looks very smart, you could have a rival there to the Eagle 66! Cheers, Alan.
Gday Alan, sadly I didnt win the lotto, I have a very understanding wife (sort of) and I sold a couple of things, I might do a run through of the lathe, I still waiting on some bits for the oil can build, the post is still quite slow here, cheers Matty
Hi Matty - lovely lathe. Really looking forward to seeing the chips fly. And the workshop is great too - clean and well-lit. Caught a glimpse of the shaper in the corner; would that be a Douglas by any chance? Keep up te good work. Cheers John B
Gday John, it is a Douglas shaper, 11 stroke model, out of all the machines I have this is still the favourite one to use and probably the cheapest to run, there hard to find now, not many shapers come up for sale around here, Cheers Matty
Seeing that brand new shiny lathe in your workshop Matty is like watching porn for me! :-) Good on ya" looking forward to it spinning, All the best, Cliff
You have previous experince to guide you tho 😁 Will be super handy to see stuff being done on the same machine. I've had a few plays but the thing has hardly been used, needs an oil change before I get serious.
Congrats on the new lathe. If you get the chance would be curious to know what sort of spindle run out you get and how flat it faces large parts. I've been eyeing its slightly bigger cousin the AL-1000
Gday, I put a indicator on the spindle and the needle didn’t move at all, I haven’t got a surface plate to check the flatness but I’d say it would be pretty good, check out Swan Valley Machine Shop, Max has the same lathe, he does some really nice work with he’s, definitely worth checking out...
G'day Matty and greetings from Southern Tassie, very nice lathe and how you have laid out the workshop looks good. What size vice do you use on your mill ? Mine is to big and heavy puts a strain on the power feed motor, anyway good to see you look forward to your next instalment stay safe and healthy John PS how do I get a sticker from you it would be great to have one thanks mate.
Gday John, the vice I have on the Cincinnati is a 100mm vertex vice, it’s sometimes a bit small, on the mill drill I have a small 50mm vice, it’s way to small but it does the job, send me an email ttmrj@telstra.com with your address and I’ll send some stickers your way, cheers Matty
Gday Yves, I joined the forum “hobby machinists” the planes are on there, so far the plans are very easy to follow, my email is ttmrj@telstra.com Cheers Matty
G'day Matty. I'd be very careful opening that letter from Melbourne. Those bloody Covid-19 infested bastards down there. The CEE sticker is from Kurtis on Instagram and TH-cam. He does some amazing work on his channel with big hydraulic cylinders. You had me in stitches about touching your nose etc... Wait to I show the better half LOL
Mate, do you mind if I ask about your lathe, (I'm about to buy a HAFCO AL-336D from Hare & Forbes $5775) Just wondering * What ya got ? * Where from ? & * How Much $$$ ? Cheers
Gday Brendan, I got the AL960b, this is made in Taiwan not China, I got mine from Sydney Hare & Forbes, there still on sale till the end of the month for $5599, I could not be happier with the machine, the AL336 is made in China, the quality is chalk and cheese, I honestly believe in my opinion I’d spend the little more and I think you’d be better off...
@@hilltopmachineworks2131 there is the option to but this lathe with the dro fitted but I had to draw the line somewhere, I’d like a qctp first, just have to save the pennys for a bit..
What a Great looking Lathe Matty. You will really enjoy using that Lathe. Best of luck with it. Man oh man what a good looking Lathe 👍
Gday, I’m extremely happy with the lathe, really can’t fault it to be honest, Cheers
Hi Matty. No matter what, you could always do with a bigger machine. I hope its some years before

Hi Matty,

Nice looking Lathe Matty, looking forward to seeing it making chips. Gary
Thanks Gary, hopefully won’t be long and I’ll have a machining video out, cheers Matty

Oh yeah! Fresh machinery, best feeling ever!
The oiler looks like a cool project.
Thanks for sharing,
Cheers
Certainly a good feeling having a new machine, I don’t really want to get dirty😂
It's only money. You can't take it with you. Full steam ahead now Matty. Cheers Rob
That’s right, made flat to be stacked they say but I got scared the wind would blow the stack away so I got in first..

Thanks Glyn, I’m really enjoying the lathe..
youll think of something else u need. but good to see an update. didn't muck around getting that put together!!
Gday Emma, yep your right, there is always something else to buy, it’s a big update from the other lathe that’s for sure...
Happy new Lathe, looks perfect size to compliment your mills etc, yes big difference between Taiwan manufacturers and Chinese.
Layout looks good.

Gday Jason, there’s a problem with the apron, it’s going to take a bit to fix but I think it can be done,
Did the rotary broach break the old lathe?! 🤣
Congrats! A new lathe will be in my future maybe next year
