Have any of you found wooden wicks more challenging with tunneling?

Hi Alan. I never knew there was any mathematics in figuring the burning of the candle. The wood wicks I’ve not had any problems with. But with regular candle wicks, this happens to me a lot! Usually I just put the jar on a candle warmer if it won’t stay lit. But I prefer to just let the candle burn. I think I’m paranoid about the glass getting hot then breaking?!?🤷‍♀️

I think your concerns are very valid! Certain types of wax also burn at a hotter temperature than others. Soy wax, for example, burns at a lower temperature than beeswax and coconut wax burns at a lower temp yet!
I think the best place to start with wicking is your wax manufacturer. Many manufacturers (for example CandleScience, Stone Candles, Sixteen Seventeen, Wooden Wick Co) have wick selection guides that are based on your wax and vessel diameter and that is a great starting point!
What a smart idea to put your candle jar on a warmer-I’ll have to try this sometime with an underwicked candle.

Hi Neezy! I use a .04 series 0.5” or a 0.625” in width woodwick with these jars depending on the fragrance oil. Love and light always 💛🌱

You can try melting the wax pouring it in something else and buying a thicker wick by “one size”

I think it's not compatible with the soy wax cuz if I use paraffin wax it works fine and I say this cuz I've been making candles for 7 years
