Endgame is a two-and-a-half-hour montage of Thanos living on the farm - chopping wood, milking space cows, fishing, pulling water from a well, etc - until he sits down for dinner only to have the Avengers break down a wall of his house and steal his foreskin along with the gauntlet.

Agreed. I spent the entire day before theory crafting with my friends. After that 15 or whatever minute-mark where the title card comes up that says "F___E Y___S L___R" in big bold text, we turned to each other with mouths just agape. Our every theory was destroyed, and I was -so- happy to be so wrong.

Here is the thing... we knew full well that the avengers would win and fix the snap. It had to happen. However, endgame was placed at an extremely important time for the entirety of the original avenger crew. By the time the final act rolled, all the characters left had completed their arc. and in a lot of stories, characters that complete their arc get sent off, as as such usually are killed off. Everyone knew someone was going to die but there was so many balls thrown in the air that you could not know who would sacrifice themselves, maintaining tension through even when we knew the end point.

You forgot to mention how every Avengers film ends with Thanos smiling!
Avengers 1 - Post Credits Scene - Thanos smiles at the idea of courting death.
Avengers 2 - Post Credits Scene - Thanos smiles as he collects the empty gauntlet.
Avengers 3 - Ending - Thanos smiling on an open sunset after completing his mission.
A true masterful way of wrapping the trilogy, can’t wait to see how it is continued in Endgame.

Plus, most of DC's animated films kick pretty much all of the MCU's collective ass. There isn't one film Marvel's had that I thought beat the likes of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm or All-Star Superman or even Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Though Infinity War came pretty close, I will admit I haven't liked a Marvel film between Doctor Strange and IW and haven't liked any that came after except for Endgame.

Box office, especially opening week, is a measurement of how good previous installments of the franchise is and how effective the marketing is and has very little to do with how good the movie is. If you want to use box office to measure how good a film is, seeing how big the drop off from week 2 and on wards is a much better measuring stick, although still not great either.
You see huge drop offs in those numbers for films like Justice League and The Last Jedi, meanwhile movies like the the first Avengers and Infinity War had steady numbers throughout their runs in theaters.
Captain Marvel taking in 1 billion was a reflection of how good Infinity War was and how invested people are in the MCU franchise. A franchise can survive a bad movie once in a while as long as you don't do 2 or more bad ones in a row.

If you really study filmmaking, it's such a shame that you don't learn anything. You don't bring any arguments, you just list things you feel were wrong with the movie. You don't explain why the movie has no emotional weight (at least your explanation doesn't make sense), you don't explain why the villains motive is bad, you don't explain why the filmmaking is soulless (you couldn't be more wrong there). I highly doubt you study anything related to movies. Of course superhero movies will never be the deepest movies out there. That's not what they're supposed to be. They're epics. And I am positive that we won't ever see an epic of such a grand scale again in cinema in our lifetime. Or at least for a few decades.

@@DumplingProductions The running time is a big deal, it might not bother you and it didn't bother me on first viewing (kind of destroy any desire for a rewatch though) but it is an important factor. The running time is the reason the last film from Kechiche goes from bad to absolutely insufferable...
As for the rest, clearly the reason is that the inconsistencies took him out of the movie. That's why you can't just write any thing without sense of logical consistency or at least causality, because you can't maintain your suspension of disbelief if that's the case. I had a similar feelings a few times when watching endgame.

    • @Arkayjiya

@@DumplingProductions He acts like that because there's nothing intrinsically wrong with a movie being 3 hours long. The first LotR movie is almost as long as Endgame in its DVD version and it's perfectly paced.
Actual length doesn't matter, only perceived length does (of course actual length does affect perceived length so it's not unrelated to mention the 3h runtime, but it does not guarantee a problem by itself).
And you can't say anything about the perceived length until you've seen the movie. Which is why he talks about specific scenes and their pacing because it's not how long they are that actually matters.

An honorable mention to me is the final confrontation between Vision and Ultron from Avengers: Age of Ultron. It's kinda like a scene in which Jesus is talking to the Devil about the virtues and flaws of humanity respectively. Ultron commenting on how humanity is doomed while Vision comments on how something isn't beautiful if it lasts forever. It's a short scene that give a powerful sendoff to what I consider an underrated villain in the MCU. Ultimately, Ultron is right as seen in Infinity War but Vision is also right as I'm sure we will see in End Game. I hope somebody does this scene because I think it deserves attention.

Ok. Everyone that says “all Marvel movies are the same” the formula is the same but the movies are different and the things that happen in those movies effects the overall plot and character development in a major way. The thing with series (or cinematic universes) is that there IS a plan and you have to be *patient* . Each character gets their time to grow and if you threw Thanos in too soon the impact just wouldn’t be there. It’s amazing how Marvel was able to shove enough lore down our throats that we didn’t even notice was there until it all came together. These are well thought out movies that deserve more credit than they get.

Also I don't ķnow if I agree totally with that. Had we been hit with a Black Widow film, or a Scarlet Witch film I think people would have been pretty open to it. I think part of the issue is that CM, as a character, was introduced to the MCU with little build in a film that honestly feels kind of disconnected from the rest of the MCU. Hell, at some points almost feels like parody, such as Nick Fury losing his eye to a cat.
I also only highlighted CM for the sake of the joke, but Ant-man and the Wasp are undeniably a part of it.

There’s just something so cathartic about seeing the villain win. I was never too big of a marvel fan, but my mind was blown when I saw heard that SNAP in theatres.

Can't believe i finally found someone who thought about this scene amexactly as i did.
I honestly don't even know how many times i've played Thanos's porch theme. It's so good, so strong. And Thanos just sitting there finally relaxing and thinking "i did it".
Thanos is the best MCU character out of them all. I am thank the Russo brothers enough for making this happen. And also making him so good.

"One Marvelous Scene" for me is at the end of Infinity War when you see all of the remaining Avengers and Cap sitting next to visions corpse, and he is out of breathe, beaten, and terrified then just says "Oh God...". I absolutely agree they could have ended the movie there, because every time I see that scene it gives me chills. Steve Rodgers is always so positive and steadfast no matter what situation hes in, and this is the first time we ever see him absolutely terrified! You can clearly tell by his facial expressions, and body language that he is just defeated, and wondering for the first time since we have seen him become a hero "how are we going to fix this."
All that along with the only two words he says; perfectly encapsulates all the emotions hes feeling at that moment, and Chris Evans absolutely nails it.

I remember being so embarrassingly affected by Infinity war that I had to be carried out of the theater because I couldn’t stop crying nor could I feel my face hands or legs. Thanos is such an expertly crafted character and such a tangible presence that when I saw Endgame in the theatre and he got ambushed by the avengers- I shit you not- I felt his breath hit my face and felt the heat of the environment as he talked. Two experiences that I’ve never felt before or since from a film of any kind

The Farm scene was arguably the most cinematic scene out of the whole MCU alongside Tony having to watch his parents get killed in Civil War. Just the sheer build up to that moment. The loss from our characters to a villian a decade in the making. And the best part is Thanos is not just a generic villian. The audience is frustrated but at the same time somehow satisfied he made good on his promise. This is because they gave Thanos depth. His mission is built on some form of logic that many villains lack. We feel for him when he kills Gamora. The end is somber. He doesn't take any pride in what he just did. He had a goal and he accomplished it. Thats it. End of story. No wide shot with dramatic music. No evil villian laughter. Just a long sigh. This movie is definitely a Thanos tribute.

They referenced this scene when thanos died. The way the camera shifted, and he sat down, it even panned the camera and had thanos in frame the same way

Wow. Thanks to you, I realise that everyone around me is emotionless. At no point during either Infinity War or Endgame did anyone watching cry, laugh or cheer. Ever. And the screens were packed. I held it together pretty well at the end of both though.

I watched infinity war last night before I saw endgame tonight and man you put my thoughts into video. This scene is so absolutely haunting and for him to smile on a grateful universe like he wanted to it makes me feel so much. First off the feeling that he did it, and the way it's set up it almost seems like a heros victory scene.

Thanos with the look of pure satisfaction knowing that he's fulfilled his destiny and his vision has come to fruition makes the Farm so special. And the credits ending with "Thanos will return" only solidifies how badass and important he is as a character just after one film. Not to mention that amazing score to go along with it, in my opinion they really couldn't have put a cap on the first decade of the MCU any better than what they did.
