- So here's the 2 cheapest hobby grade RC cars I could find on ebay. I must say, there is certainly bargains to be had out there! You have just got to look!

For a cheap waterproofing, you can coat the electronic boards with epoxy. They'll be good to go. Just make sure the entire board is coated and do not get the epoxy in the terminals. They'll be good to go.

The best one I've ever had was picking up the Henglong B1 copy for just over £10 on eBay brand new! Suffice to say they weren't on there for very long. Just recently I've picked up some bargains on AliExpress. 👍😄

Terrific video Phil! This is the kind of stuff I always thought about. How could eBay sell non branded RCs for so little and they are basically the same as the triple priced branded models. Plus the sellers still have to pay shipping and the selling commission. So they are essentially getting nothing for that sale. I understand economies of scale and all, but this is just tough to figure out at that level.
Well one things for sure.... these sellers are not making 100k profit a year haha.
And I used to see that two of the channels I watch on TH-cam are friendly with each other. Bash on guys great video

yes, fill A959's shocks with light grease, it'll plop down like a wet rag, no bounce.

If you get the chance it would be interesting to know if these Li-ion RCs have a cut-off that works for lipos? I'm using a lipo alarm that buzzes before the car slows down so I'm not sure.
Mine cut off with the stick battery... so Lipo should be good. It was a bargain wasn't it!

Uhh, I think I actually remember seeing the A959 on eBay for the price. But thought to myself, "It's a scam or trick" :-) I should have just tried. Bith cars are gone for the price, but yeah, can be a good idea to have a look sometimes on eBay and the likes to see if there's sellers who just want to get rid of their stock. Good buy. Good run :-) Is the Rampage exactly the same as the Hailstorm and Ratchet (apart from body, wheels and such)?
Yes, the HBX's are all the same apart from the wheels/body. I think the Hailstorm/Rampage may have different hubs.. can't remember

Wow! That’s an awesome deal. I hate and love ebay, it’s like a pool of infinite products, but only a few sales and products that are sold (for RCs anyways) are cheap and are hobby grade. You must’ve been looking for a while lol

Hi, may I know if the ESC of all 959 version have Low voltage cut off (LVC)?
On eBay if you write 40mph rc car with £35 filter you can find a 40mph or 64kmh rc car for only £32
I give you one better I got one for less than a tenner and it had proportional throttle and insane steering and it worked (it was also waterproof and had great suspension) and it on stopped working after I had driven it for an hour in the sea and mud and sand and not cared for it at all I even crashed it down the stairs and tried to destroy it and the only things that broke were a tiny bit of the body,the steering arm (which I taped back together and it worked) and the steering motor

You can find both in America right now on eBay for under 20 U.S. dollars. But nothing I had to have. I just searched under the $25 dollar gift card I still have. There were some interesting JJRC military trucks. But they looked too toy grade to me.

Do you know if the wheels from HBX 16889 will fit the rampage.

The wheels from the HBX 16889 have a 12mm hex so they could fit but you would have to first get the metal driveshafts if you haven’t already, then some 7mm to 12mm wheel hex adapters (amazon or eBay has them, mainly listed as a upgrade part for the WLToys 959, 979 etc. but will work on the rampage as well. The only thing I will say though is those tires on the 16889 while bigger, are not as quality in my opinion. The rubber is harder hose rubber style stuff and they also are not foam filled as the stock rampage ones are. The stock rampage/hailstorm tires will also get super soft and sticky when you break them in after running them a while. I took the stock 16889 wheels and tires off my 16889 and put my Remo Smax wheels and tires on it and holy smokes it turned it into a whole new animal in the best way possible.

6v? That's strange, this had a 2s Lipo...hence the speed difference
@@TomleyRC yes 6.4v li-ion ,its very slow.. I checked the ebay listings and most do say 6.4v for the A version. time to throw a 2s in it n bring it to life then.
It looks like you have a collector's item with the HBX, the truck seems to have been discontinued everywhere.

That's the climate we live in for sure. Heck id be willing to pay around £40 for a cheap hobby grade truck like these. Don't mind breaking them at that price haha

Really wish they would ditch those esc/rx combos so all we need is the rx to use a better radio than those rtr jokes they package. However, I have just as much if not more fun modding than actually driving them.

Wltoys aren't oil filled actually
They are oil shocks, but sometimes they get sent without oil. I know these are oil as I topped them up. Same as the A959B

I think your definition of hobby grade is a little wide. These aren't hobby grade at all. Sure in the past anything that didn't use C or D cells was 'hobby grade' but stuff has moved way past that. For sure they are worth what they cost, but calling them hobby grade is silly.
Well the way I judge it is by answering these questions:
Can you get spares to fix it if it breaks?
Can you upgrade it?
Is it fully proportional?
If all of the above are a yes, then it’s hobby grade in my eyes.
Have you seen the new mini Z series crawlers from Kyosho? $250! They use 4 x AAA batteries and have a 2 in 1 ESC.... that’s an expensive Toy Grade RC!
In all seriousness it’s a topic that always comes up, and everyone has their own opinion on it, which is fine 👍🏻

Fair one mate, I'm quite happy to listen to suggestions. I try and mix it up a bit, this was more aimed at those that are not aware of all the little tricks to find a decent deal. Last year I made some reviews with more driving, and some with more talking....the more in depth talking ones done better and had more watch time. I've also done just driving ones with no talking, and again some do ok, some flop :)
