But to be fair nearly everything is made in China/ S.E Asia these days. Made In America, Made in UK etc ended decades ago in terms of mass production. Those of us of a certain age remember when 'Made un Japan' meant great things ...but even that doesn't really happen any more either. They just design it and send it to say South Korea etc for cheap manufacture.

I have a vintage Tamiya thundershot (recently reported in life with a new ESC) and the two wltoys buggy (they are so fast) and yesterday I have got my new FY08, but I love how you upgraded the Wltoys 12402-a

Would you be so kind and tell which wheels from Tamiya you have on the Wltoys 12402-A? It looks gorgeous with them. Mine came with a dodgy front left wheel. It's shaking the car like crazy.

Good speed tests Phil, on the 144001, I got 83kph max speed on 3s stock out the box...awesome buggy for sure, the q901 can do exactly 52kph that it says on the box with the right 3s lipo in my speed tests....All the best for New Years mate👍🍻
Yes, not as fast as I thought it was gonna be. The battery had been in the FY08, so will try with a fresh one soon

Awesome comparison speed test Video Mate, I've got the 14001 , I put a vid on today, you've been lucky not to have a fry out with your electronics on 3s, I got told to remove the Diode from the Motor to run 3s, Unless the people who run 3s had a high C rating that's why it fried there electronics 🤔 anyway all fantastic Rcs mate, I enjoyed every single minute 👍 have a great new year Pal 👍😁👍
Tony the big diode acts as a partial short so the motor coils see less power running in reverse, isn't really necessary but kinda helpful for youngsters or newbies. pretty sure THAT is when ESC gets cooked on 3S, going from hard braking to reverse while still rolling forward. soooo.... YUP! ditch it!

I had an FTX Carnage. They were on a promotional sale at my local RC shop. £79.99 for the brushed version and £99.99 for the brushless. I bought 2 brushed as I had lots of better brushless escs and motors in my parts bin. While buying a few spare parts I noticed that the alloy and carbon upgrades were not much more money than the standard parts so I swapped everything out. I was running a 4200kv motor and a 120A esc on 3s and I had geared it well up with the biggest pinion and smallest spur I could get to fit... That would easily do 70mph..
I regret selling it as it was a lot of fun. My son has the other one somewhere. But moved house so many times it could be anywhere.

I'm interested to get that feiyue, just to feel the different driving dynamics from the 12428/23 models, because my 23 is fairly well behaved up to 35mph on 2s
The FY08 is pretty good, I've removed a couple of coils of the springs to add some 'slop' to it. Drives a bit more like a trophy truck
@@TomleyRC I've done a little bit to change the handling, it has oil filled upgrade shocks all the way around and fy03 rear springs (they're quite stiff and help with launches). All the weight of the 4s system makes it settle down quite a bit too. I might post a video of a walk around and list everything I've done to it

I use to have a carnage i was running a 4340kv gool rc brushless motor and programmable 60amp esc . I had it set up 100% percent forward power and on my mates gps using a 4500mah 50c 2s i got it to 58mph . It was on a dry sunny day in the wet you couldnt get the power down with it

Can I use a 3s lipo battery on a stock fy08?
Nice test. Just got a wltoys 12428-B as I love its body style. Is fast enough for me. 😋 What upgrades you suggest, Phil? Maybe get some better shocks in the future. Can it run on a 3s on stock electronics? Any advice appreciated. Thanks
I think the biggest mistake I made was running my 12428 on 3s. I ended up replacing the spur, pinion gear, and drive shaft to handle the power. After that was situated, I could never get the steering adequate enough to hold a decent line. Awesome buggy, but more power destroys it. Heck, even the shocks rip apart at higher speeds in the grass.

Oil shocks are the best thing you can do, not sure the ESC will last on 3s. A Quicrun 1060 set up would be good. But then you need a 3 wire servo and new transmitter/receiver.

Filipe D i installed metal diffs, driveshaft, spur gear, and oil shocks. They all worked tremendously well on 2s. I eventually installed a new receiver, servo, esc, and brushless motor. Awesome car to drive, but for me it was better stock. I only have 2 out of about 15 rc’s that I kept stock. More speed always calls for me eventually. Lol.
What brushless motor would you recommend for MN-90??? I want to directly install the brushless motor to the upgraded gearbox.
really happy with the 260 motor+gearbox out for them now, the earlier ones came with a 180 motor and typical WPL #316 gearbox, sucked!
you can find in eBay for 5-6 bucks if your MN-D90 doesn't have one already, they're only a little faster than WPL tan B-36 gearbox with 180 motor, but more torque for being larger diameter motor to begin with.
model nutty ah I see, I just want to try brushless right now just because the 370 motor with the speed reduction gearbox grinds down my gears.
A brushless motor would likely shred the gears in that RC.

How much space does the wltoys 114001 have for the battery cuz i bought it and i'd like to buy 2 3s batteries or 1 3s and 1 2s but it didn't arrive yet so i can't measure it😅

Fun comparison but not a fair fight between the brushed WLToys 144001 and the brushless VRX. Some folks are hitting over 80 mph on 3s when running brushless
I think it's not fair on the VRX... only managed a couple of MPH than a brushed WLtoys 😎👍
@@TomleyRC On 4s and brushless the 144001 is hitting over 90mph. It's a testamant to stability of the little car that is can be driven that fast without flipping. Mines getting the SCT treatment using the LC Racing bumpers and body posts. Shell will come from Kamtec

yup! WLtoys 12428 and their clones really NEED threaded rod and ball end steering links. the ball link ends with "tubed balls", underside to the center shuttle and topside to the steering knuckles, only way to get rid of near ALL their bump steer and toe out.
the stock links make it squirrely, near undrivable. next recommend for them is cutting 1.5 turns off the shock springs (all 4) and re-flattening the new ends, at rest it'll sit about 3/16" lower. it helps the CG some, but more importantly its softer suspension with some negative suspension travel to help keep all 4 tires on the ground more often. don't do BIG jumps after (oh well), and the torque twist wheelies are unavoidable with a rear diff axle anyway, even if locked. stock shocks are good, they just need seals put in them. for less than 5 bucks they do become much better behaved anyway. the blue Feiyu same chassis of course, give it the set of steering links at least so it can track better. my cheapo Virhuck V-01 with the steering links, toe in set about 1 degree, through full suspension travel it stays same, fully pushed down might see 1.5 degrees toe in, is the steering stability I've got now from them. not joking "must do".
whoops, another tidbit.. move the steering ball link at the servo IN on the servo arm/saver. finer control and less load on the servo itself. should be a hole there ready to use.
The FY08 has had 2 coils off the springs, and then the shocks filled with thick grease.
cool, 1.5 off with the new ends flattened is enough, can always run the collars down some to regain some stiffness. for seals I just sliced the center tube section out of WPL servo grommets (on a small screwdriver shaft when cutting), the buttons flat side up make a great seal for those stock shocks. light grease in the fronts, 10w-40 motor oil in the rears because it was there... drop it 14-16" it doesn't bounce is pretty decent.

People may knock chines stuff however most of the big brand parts are Asian made . Hpi Taiwan hsp china most big brand upgrade metal parts made in china . . That part of world has s massive RC fan base , Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan all big in RC racing .
Fun fact, my first Real RC was a kyosho tracker (90s model) i think it came with a 550 motor, but it was slower than the slowest in this bunch. insane how fast cheap rcs are today.

joe girty it's a mix of both . They produce their own cnc parts like chassis's,shocks ,hubs etc they also produce their own plastic parts like suspension arms ,ball diffs etc even tyres ( Schumacher only tyres) But they do source from China things like bearings and transmission belts .
They also sell a lot of Chinese products these days especially electronics .
Yeah there's a BIG difference in made in China stuff as opposed to China branded, my RedCat is made in China, just better hobby grade quality. The cheaper ones are coming up fast though, as we could see here!!👍
