Clean the mat with isopropyl alcohol. Gotta' rub, but it comes off.
Spring loaded USB cables will really launch whatever small device is attached to them when they fail. If they had a _manual_ lock on them, they'd be worth something.

That "velvet-feel" coating on plastic is total rubbish, from long term perspective. It **decays** into horrible gunk that peels off. Happened to my joystick.

Regular ethyl alcohol works better, it's just the anti-drinking propaganda that makes us use the inferior IPA. Also, the dye will diffuse into the plastic if you don't wash it off soon, so hurry up, Dave!

Acetone is pretty strong, but nitro solvents such as C6000 are even more powerful. Dissolves it all but bakelite!

Truer words where never spoken when Dave said it's better if your projects 'don't work'. You learn so much more from your mistakes than you do from your successes. Failures make you dig in and figure out what you did wrong which forces you to have to learn to understand how things work. It's really hard to get this kind of knowledge any other way.
Regarding free ranging children, my mother would probably have a heart attack if she knew where my sister and I wondered off to as 9-10 year old children back in the days when kids had adventure (60s - 70s)..

Use sharpie marker to clean off sharpie marker! It's super simple: take your sharpie, and scribble all over the mark you want to remove, then immediately wipe it off. The solvent in the sharpie marker will dissolve the sharpie on the object and allow it to be removed, as long as you wipe it off before it evaporates again.

    • @AJMansfield1
      @AJMansfield1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Dreaded Vapour why, it works. (For non-porous surfaces.) You have to do it a little at a time for large marks though.

Dave, the zigzag antenna pattern is not there to "get the wavelength." The pattern acts as a coil, getting down the impedance to the desired matching value of the driver. Most transmitters with undersized antennas will have a trimmable coil like that to get reasonable power output.

Always like that you spend a few extra minutes giving the young folks some advice, and if I may I have a couple of other suggestions for Michael. Make a trip to thrift stores (Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.) and you can find radios, video cameras and yes on a lucky day some test equipment. So for a few buck you can get some stuff to teardown, learn about and start collecting parts to build projects. Also, if you live in a city with a university they will from time to time have surplus sales, and you can find some amazing items on the cheap.
    Cheers,
    Mark
PS: At university auctions items are often sold in lots, but you don’t have to by the whole lot, but can usually get an item or two for a few buck from the lot winner.

Dave, et. al., I have one of those DSO quad-channel pocket scopes, and a Velleman single channel monochrome pocket scope also. My issues are a lot of the work I do is out in the field and my wife and I live in a small apartment (flat). Why are they called "apartments" when they're all stuck together? Space at quite the premium for us and I can't see having a bench scope right now. That's on the list for after we get a house.

Radio Shack still exists just on the Internet, you can order these shirts from there web site. They also have some of the stuff they used to sell in stores, just with less selection. Why they still exist does not make sense, instead of having a better selection they actually often run out of the few things they have available on the web site.

They (jokingly) call the second Cathedral 'Paddy's Wigwam' because it resembles a Native American Teepee or Wig Wam. Paddy is the colloquial term for Irish people who are also renowned for building it. It is also Catholic and many Irish are also Catholics, there is a very large Irish population in Liverpool too.
People from Liverpool are known as Scouse or Scousers and also Liverpudlians and are very proud of their sense of humour so no offence taken or meant ;-)

I use it almost every day to diagnose automotive electronics.
    Works fine and saves time.

In the automotive industry we use naptha as adhesive/glue remover. Commonly zippo lighter fluid, works wonders getting off permanent marker.

I wonder. When do the cows come home? A rough date would be enough for me. And what's the right angle to hold my tongue at for various tasks? Is it the same every time? Is there a way to calculate that? And who is flyn who apparently gets into everything?
