One of the most important and powerful people in DS2-lore, reduced to basically being a larger version of the regular hollow enemies (while still being strong enough to one-shot most characters and needing 5 souls of his arch-enemies just to weaken him enough to do any real damage to him, what a beast.)

He was the King of Want, and yes, that title comes from DS3, but it describes his ambitions. Not to mention all the horrible things his brother Aldia did that Vendrick tolerated, his kindness was focussed on Nashandra. In the end it was her that used his ambition to strengthen his domain for her own nefarious purpose, ultimately breaking his spirit and body. It all comes down the DS2's focus on the cyclical nature of its history, Kingdoms coming and going, with Vendrick following in Gwyn's footsteps. So it's rather unsurprising that they find a similar end. ... I just never got why he undressed fully before going full hollow.

Sure, she's not a hot kitsune but is instead a horrific mass of bones, but her role in furthering her lover's ruin is strikingly similar. ...also that clothing would be heavy on an emaciated Hollow frame like his. Or he just hit his lowest enough to not care if he was basically a shambling husk.
This, King Vendrick is, to me, one of the wisest characters in the whole trilogy. And unlike Gwyn as well, he made sure to leave a legacy that would spare the next monarch of carrying the burden of his mistake.
Gwyn was immature. He was so irrationally afraid of the inevitable and the dark that he damaged the future and destiny of the human race. Basically causing the Dark Souls trilogy.
Vendrick and Aldia had some great pathos and lore. Both seeking a way out of the curse, and both failing in different ways. Meeting Vendrick first as a hollow and then peer into the past to meet him as his crestfallen self was brilliant. the Crown DLCs also adding in Aldia's little speeches and musings really helped juxtapose him with his brother.
I wonder if Velstadt braided those 2 metal rings into his hair so he would know he was wandering in his direction by the racket of them clanking together?
Yeah that was the point, this is the moment you are supposed to start questioning her role in the story and what she is hiding... Fire keepers are not meant to leave the bonfire let alone travel to a place that you struggled to get through and needed to have great souls to even pass through

Man is Dark Souls good at subverting expectations. Gwyn gets hyped up as the mighty god of light yet is found the lord of nothing but cinder. Vendrick gets built up as this wise and noble king yet is simply just another hollow by the time you find him. Then we have Gael who flips it around, a forsaken slave so old he outlived his masters needing the help of the ashen one to dispatch Freide, yet in the end he, above lords and kings and gods, was the only one to truly succeed in his goal granting the world a second chance.
The theme that plays when you reach Vendrick and he's just a hollow and aimlessly walking in circles... It evokes this feeling of surreal confusion. Like you've just seen something you cant explain. You've journeyed for ages to reach the man you were told had the answers you wanted. Only to find him in an even worse condition than yourself. How did this happen? He was supposed to have the answers. What do you do now?

It would be interesting to see him in Elden Ring, in a way I always thought Vendrick was very similar to Godfrey, both great kings who conquered great kingdoms and prospered. I also see how Gwyndolin and Vendrick resemble Morgott, Gwyndolin was loyal to his family defending his home very similar to Morgott, and Vendrick seeks a form of redemption for the mistakes he made even if it wasn't his own fault but maintains an air of strength and wisdom something you see in Morgott.Again it would be great to see Vendrick in his glory fighting alongside us, with other legendary figures such as the Looking Glass Knight, Velstald, the Raven, Sir Alonne and even some characters like the Ruin Sentinel etc.

When Vendrick brought the Giants to their knees, he did it single-handedly. Unlike Gwyn, he did not have powerful allies with him, each with Lord Souls. Vendrick could easily have become Lord of Cinder if he wanted, but he rejected the power of the flame. Vendrick could easily kill Nashandra if he wanted to, but he was still in love with her and couldn't do that. He fell into depression and became a recluse. Even then, he blocked all avenues to make sure Nashandra could never take the throne. Thanks to the challenges he set, he made BOTC stronger. To continue the work he left unfinished, to find a third way to save humanity from the curse. Vendrick eventually realized that the curse could be overcome with the power of the crowns, with his blessing we can now overcome the curse. Unfortunately, this can only save one person. Vendrick was the King who single-handedly defeated the Lords of time, brought the Giants to their knees, and conquered all of Drangleic. It was "Old King of Want". He had the power to do anything "if he wanted". It all makes sense when you realize that Vendrick is a Chosen Undead for DS2, not a Gwyn. Prime Vendrick is definitely one of the most powerful characters in the entire universe.

Only male albinauric to have a mount, a Commander of the Golden Order that held a genocide against his own kind, and was given the responsibility to give orders as a military officer during the crusade within the land of shadow (probably abandoned there to bury the fact an albinauric was a Commander of the Golden Order). I’m curious to see if fromsoft decided to design a face under his helmet or if it is just an empty hole like ds2 giants lol. I’m also curious to see how he fastens himself onto the boar he rides around.

The intro of DS2 tells us that a great king made a great kingdom but the rest of the game is spent showing how countless other kingdoms, kings and queens rose and fell on the very same place why should Drangleic and Vendrick be any different.
You can fight his hollow form... Considering he one shots you by just swinging brainlessly and takes like no damage I imagine he would be impossible to kill him in his prime, I imagine he would look like an elden ring boss but in ds2
