I agree with you, if you want the “put your first finger on the first string first fret” stuff, buy a course. The stuff you provide here is conceptual and if you hear a lick you like, use your ear to figure it out. You can even slow it down on TH-cam. I wish this kind of technology was available when I was learning, but maybe wearing out some of my favorite LP’s was better in the long run.

The people that dont get it dont understand what a gem you are that we get to learn from you. Ive played for 32 years, toured all over, played shred metal and would consider myself a good guitar player and one of your just jamming, improv intros changed my life. Basic foundational triad runs that you made awesome that I had never built on and it blew my mind. You are a top tier musician and one of my all time favorite guitar players ever. Thank you.

Guthrie, I took your artist works course for 6 months a few years ago, which I extended for three more months. I can’t say how much this time helped my playing. I am 62:and played in bars all my life. Before these lessons, I knew how to play songs but I can’t say I truly knew how to play. I now play quite a lot with my eyes shut because I always know where I am on the fretboard. That is what your lessons did for me and I can’t thank you enough! One of these days, I’ll get down to Nashville to see you and your band live! Sincerely, Ian

It's truly ridiculous to complain about your presentation. To it's like being invited into your home like a friend saying hey bro check this out. That works just fine for me.

I've only had a couple opportunities to meet a great player and talk to them about guitar. Steve Morse was an incredibly gracious guy. He sat down at our table during a break and just talked guitars and life as a pro player. I just soaked in every bit of insight and knowledge I could get out of it. That's the way I look at your videos my friend. Whatever you are able to share here about the things that you have learned, I'm here for it, and just grateful you are taking the time to do it. Thanks Guthrie. Appreciate you.

I apologize in advance for the length of this comment. Thank you for what you do. It is so appreciated. You are an inspiration. Thank you for pushing us a bit. Most of us need it. You do it because you are passionate about wanting us to learn this amazing instrument. You have generously provided a masterclass here, for free. I am about to dive into your new Truefire course, but now will spend time digesting this first. You have touched on these concepts (notes from the previous chord that lead into the root or third of the next chord) several times before but now go into detail. You are kind of giving away part of the store here, but you want to be helpful. Please don’t change anything about your approach. It is perfect for intermediate players who already know the notes on the fretboard, chord and scale structure, and intervals. It is frustrating for an intermediate player when a teacher has to spend time saying which fret on which string to put which finger because the teacher, understandably, wants to speak to beginners as well as intermediate players. People: buy the courses. Guitar teachers have to make a living. What they do on TH-cam is a gift. Appreciate it. Beginner players: please don’t take offense to my comments here. The guitar is so rewarding, and I wouldn’t want to say anything to steer you away from it. Just take what you find here as inspiration. There are many, many teachers on TH-cam who will teach you the basics. Having said that, as Guthrie has said, if you just slow down his videos and take them note for note you will learn so much. it is time well spent. But it is on you to learn the basics. You won’t regret it. And then you will be in position to absorb the teachings of the greats, like Guthrie Trapp.

The part about the ear is so important. I’ve tried to teach some kids to play (I’m your age Guthrie), and it’s like they look at it like a video game. “Well, I put my fingers in the right place at the right time. What else do you want!?” That’s what they seem to think. It’s like a physical exercise. It’s not!!! It’s music. Use your ear kiddos. I love these videos! I’ve learned so much, and I watch them for inspiration for new chord progressions to jam.

Some beautiful playing and then an honest, heartfelt, balanced and informative response to comments...delivered with good nature and with a smile on your face. Just brilliant and even more reason for anyone watching your videos to become connected and engaged. Hi Guthrie. I have been playing guitar for more than 40 years. Have played in several good bands, write music and can make it work. +2 years ago I realized that I really knew very little about music, how things are connected etc. So I started a journey. Have watched endles youtube videos, bought many of the “be great in 1 hour’ish” type of courses. Honestly all crap, and I have been very frustrated. Just could not see the big picture and connect the dots. Heard many people talk about “when it suddenly clicked” it just did not happen to me. BUT your video, right here, it suddently happend. Almost like all the puzzle (or at least some of it) suddendly showed a clear picture. Now I’m on the right track and Im impressed how quickly I progress having found the right track. I know that many out there feel like me, and my clear experience is, that it makes no sense to follow all the “fastmoving wonder-kids” that can bring you to pro level if you fpllow their cource. Follow the real musicians. Thanks Guthrie, you make a difference. Well… actually to make the world a better place and more peacefull. With music and an instrument in our hands there is no space for weapons :-)

Your physicality and right-handedness makes you the perfect Telecaster player. You have total control over that thing. The way your right hand can mute, plus pick and fingerpick. But the real prize is your melodic construction and I love the way you set things up, and then sometimes let them melt away with passing tones and jazzy runs. ...melting away a country twang structure. Like country jazz. Nashville players are the best players, and they are all right handed.

I’ve improved my playing majorly just through exploring your “Chord, Arpeggio, Pentatonic, Major scale” approach. It hasn’t cost me a cent, but it’s inspired me to sign up for your lessons. It’s very cool that a guitar player of your caliber has a guitar hero. And by the way … Billie knows a great player when he hears one .

I think most people here are appreciative of how much free information Guthrie gives us in these videos. It's also completely reasonable and understood these videos are meant to get people interested in the various lessons he offers. My guess is people who have a problem with that don't have to come up with the money every month to put a roof over their heads and keep the lights on.

    You are totally right Guthrie.
You are DEMONSTRATING what is possible through your paid lessons. With all the free content you put out most people get it. Thanks for everything
