Cracks me up when people feel they need to be critical of a guy that’s an amazing player as he gives away knowledge for FREE on his promotional channel!

Guthrie, as a 70 year old player of 50+ years, I get so much out of your channel. My knowledge of theory is limited, but I'm learning more from your teaching. Like you say, this is why we love music, it's the feeling of a great melody under the fingers. Everyone's a critic these days, just keep on keeping on and don't let them get to ya, pal. Lot's of us appreciate what you put up here.

Ever play Jimmy Bryant's Boogie Man? Bit of a Jerry Reed vibe. Killer main riff. I have that and "The Night Rider" on constant loops at the moment. Love that old western swing.

Guthrie's approach to these lesson/advertisements is very helpful to many guitarists out there. A certain level of proficiency is required to really get the most out of them, but I truly love the way he cuts through a lot of the BS. I am highly appreciative of his efforts.

Guthrie please blow off any criticism. This is pure gold man! Guitarists need to play and listen to their ears and use their brains and don't be afraid to experiment and fail. You're by far the best guitar teacher on TH-cam. The stuff I've learned from you on every lesson is absolutely amazing and I'm pretty advanced. And you're doing it for free so thank you!! Have a great week.

For those that are having a difficult time grasping what GT's doing, I can tell you this is a MASTER'S CLASS amount of information that takes some time to grasp - this isn't for beginners. However, having said that, he's pointing to ALL of the necessary nutrients to get you fed way beyond the simple snacks that so many other teachers are offering. If you stick to what he's explaining here and watch it a hundred times if you have to, it will all fall together in time. There's no rush. This stuff is for keeps - if you have the patience to work it out. Truly. My playing has blossomed exponentially more in the last 2 years of listening to Guthrie than it has in the previous 30 years combined. That is no lie. And I can never thank GT enough for his exceedingly generous gift of sharing this with all of us. ♥🤠👍

I started playing 1 year ago having a formal Berkley school of music educated teacher for 4 months, I had to leave due to so much confusion. I don't usually comment on TH-cam videos, but here goes. Every now and then, someone plays a chord progression that just grabs you and slaps you in the face and makes you want to pick up the guitar and play. Well that was one of them right there. Thanks for a great lesson.

Been studying guitar for five years, and what Guthrie is saying, is finally making sense to me! Watching a TH-cam channel that shows how to play licks, but not understanding the musical application, is useless. Heed Guthrie's words.

  • @StephenLewisful
    @StephenLewisful ปีที่แล้ว +2

Guthrie, your teaching style is among the very best on the internet. When I finally begin teaching, I will model lessons in that 'less theory and more ears' approach. Once the student can move between 3 note chord shapes, which demonstrates they've put in some effort, then introduce basic theory. The ear comes first. Music came first, then it was analyzed and written on the page. Not the other way around.

You can play like Guthrie! Just play for 12 hours a day for 40 years!!! So good and so humble. Super helpful videos. A pro just showing you secrets. How cool is that. The comments from someone about not teaching CAGED. Give me a break man. Guthrie is up here for free sharing stuff. Not every video has to be spoonfeeding basic stuff. It’s okay to be curious and figure some stuff out on your own. You can take inspiration from this video and go work stuff out on your own. Thanks Guthrie.

Brother, l'm just gonna say this for now, you helped me more in ten minutes than all the others that I've watched in the past few years since retiring. Been searching for that light bulb moment all over the place and you my friend made it happen just days ago and I thank you so much! The way you explain then demonstrate is what did it for me. Watching your videos over and over to get me on my way to being a better player hopefully. I'm 68, grew up with The Beatles, Glen Campbell just copying what I heard but never learning the fret board. Been frustrated and losing interest off and on past few years til I came across your channel. Thanks again and keep it up.

I know its hard not to let some negative comments and opinions get to you, your only human. The majority of the comments I see are positive, and you do a great job imo. And you hit the nail on the head regarding theory vs. playing something that sounds good. I am pretty sure the majority of the music I grew up to love, most all of those people knew NO theory and or didn't know how to read music. They just played what sounded good to them. McCartney and Hendrix come to mind. :-) Keep up the great work Guthrie!!

Guthrie man I found you toward the end of the pandemic. I’m so glad I did. I’ve learned so much. The most important part is using my ear and thinking about what I’m doing. Thank you

Guthrie, im picking up lots of tips and fretboard moves from videos like these. Intending on picking a direction and signing on to your courses.
I think you do a great job conveying these principles and are extermely generous with the knowledge youve spent countless hours to achieve. Thanks sir.

I learn a LOT from these videos man. Every single time I watch you I get something new. And I've been playing for over 50 years. Right about 10:19 or so you really said a lot with that guitar.

I think the commenter who talked about your teaching is looking for the a-z here on this channel. I have purchased your courses in the past and you go into much further detail in your paid lessons.
In the lessons here it seems like you're showing ideas for us to hear and try to learn. I'll admit that I wish you broke things down a bit more (like call out the chord your playing over and some of notes that you are choosing). I understand that you need to make a living through your lessons. I hope to be able to afford them again in the future.
    Thanks for this content sir!
