Sounds perfect for me: I'm not a hard core gamer, I'm neither a hard core artist nor youtuber. I'm just a hardcore student with hobbies that the surface pro just makes more accessible.

My favorite part of Sketchable is that you can export as a psd, modify some stuff in Photoshop, then import your changes as a new layer.

You can do it in Autodesk Sketchbook, which is free, and in Adobe Fresco too.

Thank you. I struggled to find a suitable drawing app for my Surface, and me. I'd download, then delete them. Now, I think I've found it, and honestly your summary has quickly helped me understand more of its capabilities. I really appreciate this. It's not a slow, long drawn out "how to use this" type presentation and I appreciate it. You're knowledge shows through.

I’m totally new to digital drawing and I am getting a surface pro 6 for Christmas. I started getting worried that I should’ve chose the iPad because my friends use that for art. The main reason I picked the surface was because I don’t have a computer and I need something that can be used for art and as a complete functioning computer. But this review made me feel so much better about my decision, thanks Brad!!

its good then? I've never really like the UI in sketchbook pro for some reason, and paying for a subscription they won't get a penny off me ever. I'm cool with funding / paying for software, but subscriptions are a greedy insult. Most extra content is usually user generated anyway... but this Sketchable is decent? Will try :)

Thanks for posting your personal experience with Sketchable, I recently started this application with a new Surface, my personal frustration/experience is that I was very used to the classical Paint program that was available in your Windows OS.
Like you pointed out, this App. has great potential, But I believe that an open community of users is needed, some place were you can find help for simple tasks that are not found in the recent Manual PDFs.

Have you ever heard of the drawing app on the 3ds called 3d colors? That app was where I came to love drawing digitally, they made great use of the buttons, you could hit the Lbotton and it'd undo, and with a flick of the joy stick I'm moved in and out on the picture. Since then it has been a battle to find a good drawing app, they're all so complicated and cumbersome. I haven't played with sketchable enough to know if it's the one but I do really enjoy it. It's SIMPLE! Simple brushes that get the job done, and oh my graceshus it has the triangle color wheel, or as you put it the ninja throwing star haha! I swear none of the other drawing apps have had it, and I love it so much!!! The biggest con though to this app is how it's difficult to change the canvas size, that might be a deal breaker, but I don't know yet.

I was going to rant about how Sketchable makes my SP4 fans spin on full speed from doing nothing and that I prefer Sketchbook but then I realized that Sketchable has had a big overhaul since I last used it. Both apps seem to be in a great place right now. I think UWP Sketchbook has a nicer UI and is worth the subscription, especially with new features bringing it closer to parity with the desktop version, but right now I'm thinking I might give Sketchable another chance, so thanks for the review.
I noticed they seem to have removed the ability to assign a tool to finger painting. That's a shame, I thought blending colors with my finger was brilliant and something every painting app should be able to do! It was one of my favorite features.

Hello Brad, thanks for your video! I have 2 questions:
    1. Is it possible to upload image to one of the layers so we could then draw on it?

Could you do a sort of "tips & tricks" video for Sketchable ? Or maybe a workflow video (sketch / ink / color / layers, brushes).
For example i wish there was a HUE/saturation adjustment like in photoshop to change the color on a layer, but i dont know if Sketchable can do it.
Also my hand keeps bringing Windows notification panels to show up, that's boring.

Would you consider doing a paid How to Class in Sketchable? I have had it for a year now, first on my Surface Pro 4 and now on my new Surface Pro, but I can't use it? I know it makes me sound very dim, I am normally good with technology. However I am not an artist but just want to improve my drawing ability, I thought being able to draw on my computer/tablet would help me to draw more. I just don't understand what all the tools do, how or why to use layers, etc. I have tried to work it all out but I am just confused by it. I do try to draw in it, but I get frustrated as when I try to use some of the tools it tends to go horribly wrong and I give up. I just basically need a digital art class for absolute beginners! I have looked on the website but it doesn't really explain it for people who have never used digital art software before.

After seeing your reviews on CGA programs, I was excited to download a few of them! I went with Sketchable and was so happy with it, I purchased the whole thing. I know you probably have gotten this a lot: but how can I use a "Dodge" and "Burn" tool in Sketchable? I'm still tinkering with the whole thing, during this deployment, but I LOVE using those features. I'm a by-hand artist, so this whole computer art-thing is new territory for me. Could you please help an aspiring artist out?

Hi brad I heard a couple of rumors that Wacom and Microsoft are making a stylus together that has 8192 pressure levels, tilt and barrel role capabilities. This should be coming in the surface pro 5. Also these rumors have a ton of evidence so this could be a reality. Your my favorite TH-camr and I hope this gives you a reason to get a surface pro 5

They are definitely working together on a universal stylus technology. Not sure if the pressure and capabilities will be a standard, but the tech around it will be.

I have used ProCreate on myiPad for years and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it..... But I am now considering the MS Surface line of products and wondered how Sketchable would compare to ProCreate which (sadly) is only available on Apple. I visited the MS store today and demo'd the new (GORGEOUS!) Studio 2, the Surface Pro 6 (very cool) and the "Powerhouse" Surface Book 2 (very powerful for video editing). But what software would I run on these to compensate for their lack of ProCreate? I realize that a full-blown Photoshop or Adobe drawing suite would run, but what I love about Procreate is that it is designed FOR a tablet only and is very intuitive to learn and use! Sketchable seems close, but I could not find the blur tool for example... Or layers.... Do these exist in Sketchable?

So this video is 2 1/2 years old...do you still use sketchable? And if so, has a lot changed? What about tapering with the brush? Would love to see an update review on this app. I am currently using the 3rd generation iPad Pro and I have been considering getting the Surface Pro 6 and in the near future the Surface Studio 2. I like the idea of still having something portable, like a tablet, BUT having the full on computer so I could use the full desktop version of apps, like Affinity Designer and Photo..I do a lot of graphic design, plus some digital illustration and caricatures (going full time with that this summer) so I have been seriously considering going to a full pc, but without giving up the portability of a tablet....surface pro 6 and sketchable looks good..update????

Got the program and was excited to get started with it and also purchased a stylus from Lenova that was recommended for my 2 in 1 touch screen laptop. Unfortunately, I cant get it to work with the program. It's like I have not been able to sync the pen with the program and I cant find any documentation on it, It's an active pen and I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Personally I find Sketchbook Pro for Windows 10 (from the windows store, not the desktop version) to be the best created for a Windows touch device. A pity Autodesk switched for an annual subscription model, even if as low as 30 bucks.

Autodesk Sketchbook Pro is now free! It's one of my favorite drawing apps on Windows 10, and now it's literally freely available.

Hi Brad! Are you still using this on win10? Is there anything that you feel might be a better option?

Wait. Am I missing something? I bought the premium version after watching this, and there doesn't seem to be a lasso selection tool. I really rely on this tool in doing sketches (eg. selecting an arm so that I can scale it into better proportions)

This clearly works well when it comes to sketching and drawing. How does it work with a painting style?

Do you know if you can add photos to your paper in this app?

I was really disappointed to realize Procreate was only for Ipad and I have the Surface Go, this looks similar so if I wanted something similar to procreate is this the one? I like procreate so much because of its simplicity, ease of use, and just performing beautifully. I've tried to use things like PS and Krita before, but they are just so complex and it's too overwhelming for me.
