Fun fact, the lo-fi girl is actually Shizuku from Whisper of the Heart (Studio Ghibli film), the channel used the animation from the film and then ran into legal issues and had to re-create the lo-fi girl (study girl), but you'll still see so much similarity between the two :)
Heya! I’m a MediBang paint user and it’s great for the surface. You can even make the toolbar/buttons bigger in the settings if you switch from computer to tablet lol. It works great for the surface too!
I love the surface pro for notes and work, being able to draw with sensitivity was a huge plus though because I could never really get into digital art since I was basically drawing in one place and seeing it in another. But with this I can effectively draw like I do on paper and stop having to lug around a heavy sketchbook/ cursing myself for not bringing it that day... and even reduce the number of notebooks I carry
For me I really just need a new laptop that is small and lightweight enough to carry for hours around uni. But the drawing capabilities are a bonus I am very excited for.

The use of pressure does work in paint tool sai, at first it did not work for me too but I fixed it, even the myPaint program that seemed to have no solution, I managed to get the surface pro pen pressure to work in all the programs installing wintab , to install it you have to be careful, close all kinds of programs and when you complete the installation, restart the computer, also some programs must be configured in the settings what type of pressure you want to use, wintab or other type, there it shows you the options, each change requires reopening this program, trying the options works correctly for you.
i also draw on a surface pro laptop, but i bought a refurbished surface pro 3 on amazon for about $400 (came with keyboard). With the pen and tax it jumped to $500. I really enjoy it so far! it runs clip studio paint like a champ! my only complaints about it is that there's a scuff on one edge of my laptop and the keyboard looks worn out. the top right corner of it also gets pretty warm after a while, which makes drawing uncomfortable after a while, and unfortunately it's an issue with some of the older surface pros (not sure about the more recent models).

Almost three months ago, I bought a refurbished Surface Pro 4 from eBay for about less than $300. I also bought a few accessories to go with it: Samsung EVO Select 512GB microSDXC card for extra storage, Wacom Bamboo Ink Plus smart stylus pen, a multi-angle carrying case for my Surface Pro 4; and a replacement charging adapter, since the charging adapter that came with my Surface Pro 4 had stopped working. The Surface Pro 4 that I ordered is a Core m3 model, with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD, the latter which is why a microSDXC card is essentially important for extra storage space. After I install my microSD card, I plan to reserve the 128GB SSD for my installed apps, and my microSD card for my documents, downloads, music, pictures, and videos. And speaking of drawing apps, my two go-to drawing apps are GIMP and Krita, which both work quite well on my Surface Pro 4. Also, about my Surface Pro 4, I bought it to replace my Lenovo IdeaCentre B320 all-in-one desktop, which died after almost a decade of good use.
The super complex crazy "30 minute sketches" I see people do on insta make me want to quit art. So I try to not look at them too often lmao I dont want to believe they happen that fast.
I run PaintTool SAI perfectly on my Surface Pro 2 with the pressure sensitivity being suuuper nice and smooth. I downloaded the right drivers and then also turned off touch and adjusted settings in windows ink and settings within Sai itself and bought a better pen with two buttons to undo easily. I even got a screen protector that makes it feel like drawing on paper ♥ I haven't used my surface pro 2 in a good while since getting my Huion Kamvas 16 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ . I don't need a new tablet since the SP2 works so well still but I'm going on a trip soon and I want something with a better battery life. I've had it for years now so the battery has diminished cause electronics do that over time unfortunately.
Oh! How to screen record on Microsoft Surface is really easy! Press the Windows button (Win) then press the (G) key, there should be a bunch of things on your screen but on the left hand side you’ll see 3 square things, on the very top one that’s called “Capture” press the button with a small circle in the middle to record! And do the same process to stop the recording! Also, you need to be in a app in order to do it, you can be on the normal home screen for some reason, lol! I hope this helped :D
Do you offer a slow 1 by 1 introduction. Those programs always scare me since I never used them. I have an old surface and always loved. It’s really old now. I never used it for drawing even if when I took it over from my brother I realised it can be used for drawing and was quite enthusiastic about it.
Still fairly new but from my research and experience the surface is pretty great, not only does it function as a drawing tablet but it also can replace your laptop or PC (don't drop it though). There are, ofcourse, better tools like the iPad pro or dedicated drawing tablets wacome(spelling). If you are really on a budget and have a PC try out the huion 420. Tens of dollars, quality product, used by professionals and takes some time getting use to pen and screen being distant but it is DEFINITELY the kind of thing for a budget toe-in-the-water.
it's expensive so if you already have a good computer and don't need a laptop then a pen display drawing tablet would be better but if you also happen to need a new laptop then definitely :> There's also the iPad pro tho so I'd recommend doing some research on art on each device. Brad Colbow has videos on the surface and iPad if you need to decide between them but it really depends one what you're looking for. If you just want to get into digital art but don't need a new device (e.g surface pro, ipad) then I'd look into drawing tablet but if you want a tablet too then I'd recommend the iPad, same applies for surface if you want a laptop. I hope I explained that okay lol TL;DR- Surface is great for art but whether you should get that or an alternative depends on what you're looking for
I've used the Surface Pro 3 for like 3 years before I upgraded to the 7 and use it for my digital art with Medibang. I find is lovely and easy. It takes a bit to get used to the glass screen and how easily the stylus moves about but you can also get screen protectors that help with that. I forgot the specs but there is pressure sensitivity that is very nice. Also I use a Bamboo Ink stylus rather than the Surface Pen because the surface pen is overpriced and shoddy anyway. I use a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard for my shortcuts. I recommend it, because it's nice not having to export or worry about other software or systems when you can draw directly on to the screen and save it into the computer. It IS pricey tho so there's that.
@@peerlessvenerablefartculti7384 do you find pressure sensitivity have huge differences between the two? I'm currently having the pro 3, pressure is only up to 256 and the phantom touch been annoying me (although i can always calibrate it with sony calib tool), but if the pressure is better on 7 I might wanna save up and buy one too.
You can also get a regular 2 in 1 laptop if the the surface is too expensive for you. It was for me and I have a lenovo c740 and I draw with it and a stylus and handles medibang and krita pretty well
OH MY! Thanks for your advice! I was looking for a screen recorder for so long and couldn't find a good one (the toolbaar is a great hint too. Enjoyed the video :)
Hey there! I'm sorry if someone said this before but I didnt see any comments when I skimmed through so-- I'm pretty sure theres some drivers you can download so Sai can work! I remember having the same problem back in the day on my gen 1 surface pro. Love your art love the video!!
HIIII thank you so much for posting, I wanna make digital art but i dont want to buy an ipad just for the pen adn procreate feature yk. Can u please do a video on how to digital art on photoshop and use the different features like layering
Great quirky review video. Can't wait to try my hands on the Surface Pro 7 (Core i7) I just ordered. I'll install that Toolbar Creator thing you mentioned. I have little to no drawing skills, but it should be helpful in Adobe Lightroom CC (editing photo RAWs) and Illustrator (vector art). As for screen recording for speedart, I've been using OBS Studio (freeware) on my laptop. I think it should work well on a tablet... no?
Damn, that Toolbar Creator app is such a great idea! I already thought about unplugging my computer keyboard to have access to shortcuts, but would look weird if you would have a computer keyboard plugged into a tablet chilling and drawing outside. 😂
I love ur artstyle and I am just starting my drawings on my servace pro thanks for the review it helped and I totally ment what u ment by the Lofi chill beats girl lol
The scribbly line problem is mostly just a photoshop problem (i think) and the surface pen never does janky lines on other programs. I mostly use CSP and Autodesk sketchbook.

Paint tool sai 2 works on the surface! It doesn't have the touch screen capabilities but if you're a sai fan then maybe that'll make you feel better about surfaces lol
I'm looking for a tablet that I can draw either a full manga or a read it and weep kind of book if you've seen that disney movie can you type on this and then draw on the side of the page ???
I just got the Pro 7. The drawing program “Concepts” is what I use. If you pay for it, it’s awesome. It also has a color wheel built with Copic color pallet. Lol No. That’s not what vicarious means.
If you use any drawing apps on the Surface Pro 7 can you help me? whenever I tried to draw with the stylus pen it only rotate or zoom in/out the canvas and and I'm hopeless
Kamaboko Gonpachiro Since I got the Surface, I started using two programs you can get from the Windows Store. The first one is called Concepts. It’s free to download if you want to try it out on the basic level. I however, really liked how it operated so I paid to unlock all the features. I didn’t get all the texture brushes so I think I ended up paying around 30 or 35 bucks for what I wanted. It’s very responsive to the pen and you can export your drawings to manipulate in other programs. The other program I’ve been using is the Wacom Bamboo app. Can’t remember exactly what it’s called, but again it was free to try out the basics. I use this one for writing and other note-taking. It also has responsive pen features. As far as pricing goes, I’m not sure how it happens, but I unlocked it for free some how by trying it out for the sample period. At that point I decided on Concepts but when I said “No” to Bamboo, they just gave it all to me for free. I wasn’t paying attention to all the details of how it happened but it did. 🤷🏼♂️ Give them a try. You may be surprised.
I have Surface Pro 5, but it's a rather heavy tablet, and it gives me wrist pain after holding it for a while... Prolly I will sell it and buy Surface Go 2.

You're very talented, thank you for sharing all this. Loved watching you draw.
Hi, just found your channel and i liked it a lot, can i know if your surface gets warm using photoshop or other big software for long time?
It does get warm if you use it while charging the battery at the same time! While unplugged though it should be fine
@@PoshPalette thanks for the reply!! (:
Thank you for this video! You're a talented artist.
Thank you!
Lol the same though as me. When I saw the drawing I actually thought it was to lo-fi girl. You have an amazing talent. Congrats :)
Can you add links to the applications you use? I can’t find that toolbar thingy haha
sorry for the belated reply :( Haven't been active on TH-cam due to school, but wanted to let you know I added the link in the description!
I even got a screen protector that makes it feel like drawing on paper ♥
I haven't used my surface pro 2 in a good while since getting my Huion Kamvas 16 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ . I don't need a new tablet since the SP2 works so well still but I'm going on a trip soon and I want something with a better battery life. I've had it for years now so the battery has diminished cause electronics do that over time unfortunately.
Absolutely astonishing! Excellent video!
She does look like the lo-fi beats chick!! Love those videos!
this is amazing, would love to see you post a painting tutorial !
I was totally thinking of the lo-fi beats girls 😆
Med student checking in: me and that lo fi girl are pretty much best friends lol.
Do you offer a slow 1 by 1 introduction. Those programs always scare me since I never used them. I have an old surface and always loved. It’s really old now. I never used it for drawing even if when I took it over from my brother I realised it can be used for drawing and was quite enthusiastic about it.
Im trying to move to digital art, would you recommend the surface pro?
I hope I explained that okay lol
TL;DR- Surface is great for art but whether you should get that or an alternative depends on what you're looking for
I've used the Surface Pro 3 for like 3 years before I upgraded to the 7 and use it for my digital art with Medibang.
Thanks for the review! Does it get hot easily? Everyone is complaining about it getting hot...
I would love to see you make more videos of coloring on photoshop!
Hey there! I'm sorry if someone said this before but I didnt see any comments when I skimmed through so-- I'm pretty sure theres some drivers you can download so Sai can work! I remember having the same problem back in the day on my gen 1 surface pro. Love your art love the video!!
What app do you use to edit your videos-?
This is great review😊thanks for adding in so many helpful details. Im looking into buying one in another month. So very helpful!!
I recommend Rebel 5 for Surface Pro painting
the sketchable app is good and corel is good as well
I have no idea how to do digital drawing layers and all that confuses me. But what a solid video. What do you recommend for a total newb.
Your art style is very nice!
Omg tysm
Toolbar creator is a life saver!! Thank you!
Leonardo is pretty awesome!!!
I love ur artstyle and I am just starting my drawings on my servace pro thanks for the review it helped and I totally ment what u ment by the Lofi chill beats girl lol
I dunno if anyone’s suggested Affinity Designer as another option - but yeah! A definite powerhouse illustration app!!
Medibang is known to work really well on even old laptops so i bet it works on surface pro too! 🐬🐳🐋
Having a surface pro ,sai version 2 is actually supported by surface when it comes to pressure . It's what I use !
Im having mine soon! Thanks for the vid :)
The scribbly line problem is mostly just a photoshop problem (i think) and the surface pen never does janky lines on other programs. I mostly use CSP and Autodesk sketchbook.
oh my thankyou SO MUCH for this video it helps me seriously hahaha
i wanted to try digital art for so long now i know surface pro is my choices hahaha ((cuz i wanted a tablet with great laptop experiences ;)
Paint tool sai 2 works on the surface! It doesn't have the touch screen capabilities but if you're a sai fan then maybe that'll make you feel better about surfaces lol
Just the video we were looking for ❤️
Track list? Bangers the whole video lol also really dope picture!
I've been using sai on my surface pro since 2016 . I guess I got used to all the struggles, but I do have pressure sensitivity, so that's a plus
Have you tried ArtRage? I like the look of it, but haven't spent enough time drawing to really get to know how good it is compared to others.
Can you do a video on how you customise your toolbar?
I'm looking for a tablet that I can draw either a full manga or a read it and weep kind of book if you've seen that disney movie can you type on this and then draw on the side of the page ???
Yup
awesome video sorry i have a surface pro 7 but 5 is it still good?
can u please show us how u set up the art app on it? im getting one on my birthday and i just wanna make sure i understand how to use it
I just got the Pro 7. The drawing program “Concepts” is what I use.
If you pay for it, it’s awesome. It also has a color wheel built with Copic color pallet.
Lol
No. That’s not what vicarious means.
I just got the pro 7. I’m an old school comic artist I’m looking forward to using it
If you use any drawing apps on the Surface Pro 7 can you help me? whenever I tried to draw with the stylus pen it only rotate or zoom in/out the canvas and and I'm hopeless
Kamaboko Gonpachiro What program are you using?
@@jamesviktorovich IbisPaintbX and Medibang
Give them a try. You may be surprised.
I have Surface Pro 5, but it's a rather heavy tablet, and it gives me wrist pain after holding it for a while... Prolly I will sell it and buy Surface Go 2.
you are so pretty omg
